Thank you. There it is there. It is sought. There's the bubbles.

Got it? Hey, found some more of it over here on this other side. Look at that just bubbling away. Be right there. We got ourselves a leaker.

I'm sure we found the problem. Hello everybody, Good day to you! Welcome back! This is a 2007 Saturn Vue It's a General Motors product. However, that can be quite deceiving because this thing is powered by a 3.5 liter Honda engine. That's right, it's a mishmash of all kinds of stuff.

We've got a Honda V6 a Saturn badge, GM components all over the thing. See, there's some right there. So is a Honda Is it a Chevrolet Is it a GMC Nobody knows it's a Saturn it's a Saturn Vue This particular 2007 Saturn Vue does not have a very good climate control powering on. Turn the fan down so we can hear customer.

States AC System is underperforming and that is not okay because it is Florida and it is summertime and it is really, really hot so we need to get this thing cooling very quickly and look at that at only 18 906 miles on the odometer. However, one more thing can be deceiving about that. Although this may have 18 000 miles on the engine and on the drivetrain, some of the other components probably have a lot more mileage than that. See that right there? That's a tow bar for an RV.

So the wheels and wheel bearings and uh, axles, and all that other good stuff that rotates around that may have like a hundred thousand miles on it, but it's only been driven by the engine for 18 906 miles, so looks can be deceiving. Quite deceiving. I mean I'm not saying it's got a hundred thousand miles on it, but it might that's broken. Can't have broken hose clamps? That's not okay.

Come here. Oh, all right. I'll fix you later, but that's right. we've already preliminarily found a leak.

I Put some cruel oil down inside the AC Service valves I Observe them for a small period of time. It looks like we've got a leak at both valves. I'm going to go ahead and make the assumption that the AC system on this particular Saturn View is malfunctioning due to a low refrigerant level. Let's get all the oil out of there.

I'm gonna go ahead and hook up the uh, the machine we're going to power on the climate control. get rid of that too. and that goodbye goodbye debris kind of doing this backwards, but sense everything about this car seems to be best accurate then. Uh, that's gonna be the theme of the day so soon because this is going to be a very good video opening.

Z Hood Okeydokes, As we get started, there is one more fun fact. I'd like to point out this particular vehicle was very near to me in proximity at one point in time. See that 6 15, 22 right there for a Lube oil and filter change I used to work at that place, so this thing was once in my shop I Never had an opportunity to uh to touch this car. It does not appear to be familiar to me, but it's here now and that's all that matters.

So we've got AC system turned on, compressor engaged. Let's get the thermal meters. We'll stick the meter in the dash. that's going to give us a baseline to how well this thing is Cooling and then uh, as we take our measurements, I can go ahead and hook up the machine and get some pressure readings before I go ahead and recover this system.
Uh, right off the bat. I'm going to go ahead and replace these two valves because I have just visually confirmed that they do in fact leak after that I can go through I can look for any other additional leaks or if the system is underperforming. after a recharge, we can then begin to diagnose that situation as it unfolds here. Let's fetch some.

uh, the thermal reading devices I think I want to use this one this time? I mean they're all the same. They do the same thing but uh I like this one so we'll just plop that guy right there in the center vent we're on. Research AC is on fan medium. we're on face fence right here we can see shoe.

Let's go back out and hook up our machine. Go from there machine powering on, let's grab our hoses, unravel those guys Right there and we'll go ahead and get them hooked up. A lot of you guys have asked me before doing AC Service How do I not get the hoses confused and the answer is simple. The fittings are two different sizes.

You can see that the low side, that's this one. the low side size is smaller than the high side size so that is how you don't get them. Uh, fast backwards. Hmm.

Get on there. There we go. We'll open it up, turn it till it stops. No further.

let's grab our low side hose, get that one connected so it is to its Service Port There we go and we can go ahead and take a look at our pressure readings and we're a little low and we're very low. 20 pounds and 140 pounds on a day like today with what do we got here? 94.6 degrees and 42 humidity? Yeah, those pressures are not high as they should be. Not at all. So let's go ahead and take a measurement.

We're going to recover this. The machine will recover all of the refrigerants in the system. It's then going to weigh it, tell me what's inside and we're going to compare that with the specified amount. In the meantime, let's go ahead and power this thing down.

so as soon as the machine is done, we'll have some Direction In the meantime, I'm going to fetch some blue water and refill the washer. uh Reservoir And since that oil change sticker is reminiscent of the days of old, So I have decided to bring back pouring things. Go for a uh altitude record here that doesn't go there. You did do it.

I Saw you from my peripherals flashing out because there's a screen in the reservoir bottle almost there. Beautimous. Still got them touch. Oh that didn't seem to take long look at here.

We're all out of pressure and it's oh I Just missed it I Think it said like two points something ounces were recovered. We'll wait 4.54 minutes and then we'll figure out exactly what we've recovered from the system. Uh, the compressor's on and it's too loud. Power that thing off.
Okay, so the machine is done. It recovered 0.328 pounds of refrigerant. I Don't believe that's sufficient for uh for proper pooling. Let's see what our sticker says that we need.

Let's see, we've got a 3.5 liter Honda engine. The charge is 1.75 pounds not 0.3 pounds. So yeah, we are very very very very low. I'm surprised the compressor even came on.

So we know that we have two leaks already. So let's go ahead and button up those two leaks. We're gonna install the charge and that is going to tell us after we turn the system back on exactly how how well this cooling system performs. No unclicked, please? Well, it is coming off.

It's not with, uh, my hand supplied amount of force There we go. The additional Leverage Pull this guy out. Come on valve. You can blow it Harder than that.

You can blow it harder than that. Use all the air pressures. Come on valve. Come out of there.

Tired of spinning you some dreaded you better not have split in half. That will. Oh there we go. Got it.

See what we have here to uh, center with? look at that thing. You have to see the ceiling surface right inside. that O-ring is junk. It's not okay.

All right, that's one valve down. That one should come out a little easier. I Think that's a smaller valve than the one that we just took out over here on clickage. Oh nope, it's tight.

Here it comes. Come here service valve. How's this one looking? not the greatest and I've seen worse? Yeah yeah that O-rings pretty smashed as well. Okay, let me go fetch some new valves and then we'll reseal the system and get it back together to the AC kit we go.

I think I think the box is in here I actually have a couple boxes of valves I've been going through my little box first but I don't have I don't know if I have a big valve in here or not. I think I do see that one yepper and this one. Drop that one. Whatever.

Okay, that looks good. This one looks good. Let's uh, let's compare these two in the light real quick so we can see what we're looking at here. Yeah, that bottom ceiling surface on this uh old valve is junk.

It's not okay. All right, coming back in, let's go ahead and drop that guy into position here and we'll get it screwed down and tighten. What'd my tool go? Oh man. I'm a hot mess today.

That's fine. I got another one. Did it fall? Did Troy take it when I wasn't looking Troy did you take my valve a valve remover? He's not responding. Do you guys know what I did with it? because I kind of don't Partial click There we go.

Okay, let's head over here to the other side. Oh there it is. I'm silly bad Ray I was accusing Troy of messing with me and he wasn't even in the same room. I'm horrible I don't know what? didn't you do? That's the question.
What didn't you do? What did you do? What did you do that I'll know about. It's got to be something. It's all in good fun folks. I'm not.

Uh, I'm not harming his emotions. Emotional damage I promise. Well, maybe just a little bit. It's for his own good.

Tough love. Click. Okay, what we're gonna do next: Reattach our service lines. Skip past that menu.

We're gonna put this thing into a 10 minute vacuum. Vacuum out any air that has entered the system and at that point once the air has been evacuated, we will be able to, uh, initiate the recharge procedure so don't go anywhere. I'll be right back as soon as that thing is done. Hey, he doesn't know we're looking at him.

Oh, he caught us. He caught us. Where you going Dude, come back. The people want to see you.

Oh he doesn't want to see you guys. He's rude. Oh, they're gonna be mad at you bro. You're gonna have to read the comments.

They're gonna be mad at you. They're gonna be so mad. Yeah, you're the bad guy. Wait wait, you're insinuating that I'm the bad guy.

You are the bad guy. Why can't you be the bad guy? Um I Can I can do you want me to be the bad guy? Um no. Caster Troy Uh, you gotta watch the movie. you gotta watch face off.

Um yes. Castor Troy was the good guy and he was also the bad guy And not how you think. Yeah, you're gonna have to watch the movie. Yeah, go watch face off.

John Travolta Nicholas Cage Face Off You Gotta Watch it. Yay! I Heard the beat. Vacuum is complete. Looks like it's holding vacuum.

That's good. Okay, let's go ahead and initiate the charge. Let me remind myself, 1.75 pounds refrigerant. Yep, sounds good.

Let's go ahead. Charge button Poe System Compressor No, it is not an electronic compressor. it is a belt operated compressor. Do not save service records, checking database for nothing.

Zero One Seven Five pounds refrigerant High side charge Initiating charge Now beginning charging. Feet wins, Low sides coming up I Saw it's coming up 0.6 pounds going in 0.7 0.8 It's taking it rather quickly. Good, almost. Come on up.

The charge has slowed. it will have to build tank pressure. Okay, well that machine continues I Need to refill my uh, my dime injector device need to unthread it. It's empty, contains no more UV dye or Peg oil.

So this is an older system and it's probably had a leak for quite some time. We're going to give it a little bit of dye and a little bit of oil. Come on unthread. Okay, Nope.

I don't have the hamstring. It unscrews right here at the end. Yeah, yeah. Nope.

Didn't get it. more grip needed. There we go. Got it.

So what I need to do is just get into my bottle of peg. It has dye already inside of it. We'll refill this uh little device here without spilling this oil everywhere because it'll stain everything it's running down. Screw that guy.
back on, We're good to go. Now you may ask, Well, what about the air inside of the machine or inside of the Uh the device right here? Is there a potential to inject that air into the AC system? And the answer is yes, there is potential to inject air into the AC system. However, we're still not done. However, you can avoid injecting air with a very simple precaution.

You just hold this thing upright when we install the dye in the oil and it doesn't have an opportunity to inject the air because the air is going to float on top of the liquid. Clever No. I Think it is machines done. Let's hook this guy up.

Put like an ounce or so in. Yeah! I Feel the pressure. That's why I like this injector because you can inject oil even with pressure in the system. When a lot of the injectors require the systems being a vacuum before they'll accept any oil, one more turn there we go.

Okay, so there's oil and die in the system. Connect my low side fitting here, open it back up. the machine beat. It has completed its charge with the exception of however much refrigerant is in the hoses See, the scale is in the machine and once the refrigerant leaves the tank and goes into the hoses, it's now calculated as how much was weighed.

However, the amount of refrigerant in the hoses has not made it into the car, so we have to add just a little bit extra to compensate for what's in the hoses. So what we're going to do I Like to do hose compensate. so we're going to press abort. That's the X and it is going to install approximately 0.3 pounds refrigerant.

So that's a 0.15 pounds refrigerant per hose is what they take. So just a little bit longer and it should be complete while that thing's finishing up. Let's head back inside restocking the engine power on the AC system. Look at that got locked out.

That's why I Always put the windows down. you never know. restarting the engine. There we go.

Climate Control powering on now. I Heard the compressor kick on. Let's go out and take a look. Okay, the hose compensate is complete.

Check out our pressures. Remember we started off around like 140. We're coming up coming up 225. This is good.

The needle is bouncing a little bit. The system also has not stabilized yet. Low side ride on the money at 40 38. those are looking good.

Show that's a success. We don't need the hoses anymore. Hose compensation has been complete. Let's get this detached, wipe down our oil that spilled, get rid of that and you right here and we'll get our high side service valve.

We'll get that one removed disconnected. I'm going to evacuate the hoses and I need to get some caps for uh, his AC valves. Try this one first. Just keep the dirt and whatnot out of there.

That one does not fit. Okay, back to the Box See what I have here with the regards to AC system caps. No No no no no no no no no, stay see what's in the master kit here. Gotta have some caps somewhere Yep they're in there.
Okay, all right, I Hope the blue ones fit so it's pretty. Let's try this one here. It's blue so you know it's good and that one does not fit. Try again next.

What do you want? Yeah, that one gonna go on. It's a negative, not threading on. well. what is this? Uh, how about this one? See if this one fits? Indeed, it does cap click and we need one big one for that side over there.

And I believe these big red ones are the GMS I Think nope, wrong, not that one. Let's try the next big red one. Nope. Wrong.

Come on killing me. How about the black one? And the survey says cat flickage? All right. good to go get that out of the way. don't want to shut the hood on my die injector.

AC Has been running for a couple minutes. approximately four minutes. and would you look at that? We are making cold air 43 degrees what we got there. Not too bad.

I'll take that. All right guys. 43 degrees. We're good to go on the AC system.

So next up and while we're here, let's get this sticker out of the window. We don't need that anymore because my sticker's going in the window next. However, I'm Gonna Save that operation. No amazing good thing.

I got that latch on that could have been really bad anyway. I'm Gonna Save that operation for tomorrow morning. It is becoming late in the day. I've got a little bit of work done on that car.

but I'm going home. So that being said, I'm gonna go ahead and close this video out. We've had a successful AC repair I Need to leak Check this thing tomorrow with some UV glasses and a UV light fans are running. This is good.

I'll just need to recheck that for leaks I Don't think I'll find any, but you never know what you're gonna find while I'm doing that. I'm gonna pull the wheels off, check the brakes out, make sure everything down below is in good shape, and we're going to change the oil with some BG additive and all that good stuff as per my normular protocol. but I'm gonna have to say that one till the morning because like I said, it's late. The clock's not accurate.

it's two hours slow. I'm going home. That's the end of the day. Thank you guys for watching this video.

Hope you enjoyed the short video. If you did enjoy this video, please feel free to let me know about that in the comment section down below. Tap that like button while you're down there. And most importantly, do not forget to have yourselves a great day! See you guys later! End of: Saturn Honda Chevrolet GM whatever it is in a day in the video.

end of transmission Oh I forgot got video powering down.

Ray, I am a Senior (80yr) and have lived in the UK forever!! . I watch your vids, with great fascination!! What is the next problem etc .I am fortunate that for the last 20 years all my cars have been modern and mostly new AUDI/VW. However, in the far past, I used to do all my own maintenance. Your vids remind me of happy days spent crawling around the floor underneath the vehicle, trying to fix various problems. If you think modern cars can be awkward, you should try working on a 1960’s MINI.!! Treble jointed arms would have been useful. Best Wishes Roy W

i worked on these new. You could get a AWD, FWD, Hybrid, Honda, Vauxhaull V6, a GM V6, an ECOTEC, a stick shift, an automatic, etc. You never knew wtf was going on. The Honda V6 was by far the best engine for the VUE, unfortunately, the car body/interior just crumble around the engine. Sometimes the valve go out of adjustment and it gets an extended crank but other than that, they were pretty solid.

One day you will learn that the schrader valve isn’t the primary seal and isn’t designed or intended to seal the system. They are only there to allow easy servicing of the system. The caps are the primary seal intended to seal the system. Also vacuum test isn’t a great test for making sure a system is sealed. Many leaks will leak under pressure and not under vacuum. Not using a detector and going over the whole system is cheating your customer of proper servicing of the system. All ac systems will leak to some degree over time, either thru the front seals or even the hoses themselves. While I agree that changing schrader valves with every service is good practice they shouldn’t be looked at as a fix all for ac leaks. When you remove a cap and hear it hiss that tells you the primary seal ( the cap ) was doing its job and sealing the system.

  58. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars mike noneya says:

I guess in the Auto AC industry. You guys do not use nitrogen for pressure checks or micron gauges for vacuums. Outside the Automotive world. Dye is frowned on. We call those that use dye or stop leaks. Lazy hacks.

People are still complaining about the Florida heat. But I promise Arizona heat is much, much more agonizing. I finally left Phoenix due to the population and heat. Apparently next week is supposed to be 119 degrees all week. Florida is surrounded by water. I guarantee you guys barely hit 100 next week. But I'll go Google the weather to compare hahaha

  81. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark Raday says:

Hey Ray, I'm a little behind from when you posted this video but I just want to share my own experience with Saturn . When my wife and I got a Saturn it was a 1999 SL2 Homecoming edition. It was loaded with every option available at the time. We put three hundred thousand miles on it. We would still be driving it today but unfortunately some old lady slammed into us and left the scene 😡. At first I really didn't want it cause everything else I owned was a muscle car. That Saturn was a damn good car. Anyway back to your AC video, I had a Trans Am with a mysterious AC problem, after replacing just about every component it always held vacuum and charge at idle but running down the highway it would lose the charge. The source of failure was the high pressure line was rubber and it was porous 🤯. I couldn't see it cause the engine bay was always detailed.
Thanks for letting me share my experience and thank you for another great video. Stay safe, healthy and American Strong 🇺🇸💪💪

Caster Troy, good guy & bad guy….but not how you think 🤣
    Woooooooooooo

  83. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars NimsChannel says:

I had the exact same car. Everything breaks but the engine. They're also dirt cheap, and nobody wants them. I've suggested them to people and they always laugh. Then they go buy a Subaru or something and end up in the mechanic shop.

Mine blew that gasket on the compressor.

  84. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars wayne mg tregear says:

I THOUGHT that you cannot two an automatic transmission in neutral for long periods of time.

  87. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Christopher Marshall says:

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You know WHY it has a HONDA engine? Because GM can't make decent engines to save their lives, hence the name Garbage Motors!! Piles of crap.

  88. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Adams says:

Looking at the service sticker from June 2022, the car had 21,124 miles then. Today it has 18,906 miles???

  89. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Pauley says:

    😂😂😂

  90. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Damoinion says:

What's the humidity like in your area? If high, do you ever do an N2 purge?
You are hunting for system caps. Where are the originals? If they're missing, doesn't that indicate a previous issue?
Also, why do you not use an AC service machine with an integrated oil and dye injection system?
After all it's much easier to inject the dye with the oil at the first post vacuum stage than at any other point in the process unless you are fitting a new compressor that is pre-oiled. (Check with your supplier if the compressor has been prefilled with the correct oil, (REALLY IMPORTANT for HYBRID and EV), and test dye, (if applicable).
Also, a good 40 minute vacuum test is also important before you start injecting "oil volume recovered"
I have found that the newer machines sold to us here have a default 3 min vac test which is pointless for any A/C system
Min vac test on a suspect system is 40 min.

So if you buy a car u expect it to be what it says on the badge.

  93. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Bolton says:

Saturn: The GM that GM claimed wasn't. Just like Lincoln: The Ford that Ford claims isn't.

    Come on…who do they think they're fooling?😆
