In this video I have a look at a customers 2004 Chevrolet 1500 that has a complaint of "running hot and no power." Doesn't take long to discover it is completely out of coolant. A $0.99 part sure can cause a lot of troubles down the road.

Extreme Hatred of Dodge Chassis AKA shipping crates is well founded.
Hi Eric. Hardly ever post but always click like, would like to say i was watching an older vid yesterday and haven't stop laughing at the moby dick/sardine quip. 😂😂😂
How was the coolant related to low power
I am not a professional mechanic/technician, but in over 50+ years of car ownership, I have never heard of a spring hose clamp breaking. Nice diagnosis and repair!
Nice to ger an easy one once in a while
Still good stuff I enjoyed it
It is profoundly cool.
You prolly saved him thousands compared to another shop
Watch out for that chevy thunder might twist the frame lol😂 😅
First time here and I really enjoyed your video
I will be here tomorrow
Does your state have the undercover repairs that are actually the state doing stings on the repair shops to see if they do unnecessary repairs? The simple repairs are a learning experience too.
Gotta mix it up a bit, otherwise it gets like CSI when it seems like a simple case that’s solved in 15 minutes you know it’s not going to be the real culprit!
Eating ice cream and watching SMA.
Lucky outcome for the customer no blown head gasket of cracks from overheating low coolant .
"The insty" & "The Facebook" used to make for a fun night. Hey-o!
I never had a clamp break in 45 y…..
Sorry mr o.. Pam Anderson lives up here in Canada. Lol
The hose clamp you installed is called a Jubilee clamp, well at least in England where it was invented and referred to by the inventor as such.
How is there a fuel line connected to nothing? Just dangling around back there.
A Good Honest Craftsman is hard to find. NY is lucky to have you.
Anyone who complains about auto repair costs should watch the vids and see what it takes to fix cars.
If we had a mechanic like Eric around I wouldn’t have to buy Toyotas lol .
SO EASY TROUBLE SHOOTING FOR ERIC !!!!!!!!
The truck has the classic New York Frame Delete option? It's interesting that even a hose clamp suffers from too much salt. Thanks for a good lesson in using a coolant pressure kit and how valuable one can be.
I appreciate the simple repairs as much as the more complex, multi-meter clamp jobs.
The is someone out there who might have the same issue or just want a preventive maintenance video like this where a few dollars in clamps can save them thousands in dollars they dont have, so on behalf of those who do repairs for cost saving or just personal satisfaction, Thanks!
thot those take the orange coolant? dexcool….
Love the Gulf 'Steve Mcqueen' hat. A Le Mans crowd favorite. I gotta get me one of those. Oh, yeah, thanks for fixing cars.
Never seen you use the Astro cooling system tool. Hope you can do a tool review on it. Been looking for a airlock purge tool kit
I hate those kinds of clamps.
Doesn't seem like it did the trick this time, but those hose clamp pliers are a nifty tool to have with those factory hose clamps. I was able to change out all the hoses on my 09 Fusionator but only since I had that tool. I am pretty sure one of your other videos introduced me to that great tool. I like even the simple videos you make, always a wealth of knowledge you project !
You wouldn't have a backlog if you weren't as good as you are.
You are a legend!
An Honest Technician!!!!
Would the cooling system build up enough pressure to leak like that by idling at a high rpm? That pressurization kit is $229.
This is one time I could handle this .😊👍
i think it's a great idea to show simple fix's or for what people should check and lookout for on car's and truck's.
Graveyard shift overtime. At least I got a little break with SMA
Gonna be honest with you. I have nothing. Tootles!!
Hey Eric, I sent you a message on another video. Maybe I’ll catch this one here. I got a 2002 Ford F150 with a 5.4 valve and the other day my odometer numbers started going crazy is that giving me a code of some sort please help
It's nice every once in a while to have an easy one.
OK OK how long can one of them clamps last here in the north east before they might rust apart like that?
few months ago, needed a pressure tester, debated between renting one from the parts house or just bitin the bullet and buying one. broke down and bought it and sooo glad i did,, have used it personal and friends vehicles many times in the last month or two
Just another no pay job that makes the customer really happy
Ole Eric O's gotta give that chevy a couple revs after he started it to confirm that chevy thunder! ⚡
Cool old Gulf hat!
Nice video like always. Glad you’re staying busy. 👍👍
Great job Eric, just giving the customer what he needs! As long as it's safe, no sense in putting too much money into something that doesn't have much life left in it.
I love these types of videos keep them coming!
You figure a vehicle that old the plastic radiator would split before a metal clamp.
What no Binford 5000 Scan Tool required!
Clicked just to hear you saying SHEVERLAY!!! It always makes me laugh 😀
That’s what I like an honest mechanic do what you got to do, don’t pile on
Nice catch on that one Eric sometimes it's nice to get an easy one. Rust belt Al
Eric, I do wonder, are you making any investment in education to work on electric cars?
I’m really disappointed with the rust prone metal they use on the frame
I have the same vacuum fill and pressure tester exception it's a mishimoto mmtl-cpt 28 in a black case..wonder who done the rebrand?
These repairs may be simple, but the battle for the non mechanic is troubleshooting. That’s why I watch
Please use a constant tension clamp or a spring clamp. They will expand and contract with the temperature changes and they don't bite into the hose.
Gulf hat brings me back!
If there's anything in life worth doing, always give 100%. Except when you're giving blood. -Bill Murray.
That's the most profound statement I know, Eric O.
Wonder what the PSA. is.
No negative comments. I did wonder why you didn’t put it on the lift for easier access, until you explained the chassis was so rotten it wouldn’t stand the strain. As a lifelong Californian, rusted frames don’t enter my consciousness.
Not one but TWO 2wd trucks in Avoca NY – what is going on there? Ha. Nice simple fix for the Chevy owner, lucky them. Engine sounds healthy in the video, nice. Great 800 series trucks.
Phobia of dodges. That cracked me up. I got my phobia from trying to remove the starter from an old dodge Cordoba, slant 6, outside, in the rain, in a sandpit, on a car with 1-2 inches of greasy grimy crud built up on everything around that starter and that side of the engine. Couldn't even find the bolts till we scraped crud for 30 minutes. Of course then we were laying in wet sand and greasy crud. I've had a dislike for Dodge stuff ever since.
I'm lazy, so I would not have pumped that whole engine's cooling jacket and radiator full of air. I would have just put 100% water in it. Sometimes, depending on where the leak is… it might have already run out of leakable coolant, so adding is needed.
The last place I worked, as a fleet mechanic, was crazy for transmission flushes, so it did those every 30k miles. Those cheap line quick connects are not meant to be taken apart and put together a lot. I always used to hate getting hit with hot ATF. All of the detergent made me itch for the rest of the shift, also smelling like hot puke was not great.
You should have just done the middle finger for the Facebook. 😂
My 06 never had many issues.. frame rotted first would not pass state inspection last year.
How's this for profound. When putting a new radiator hose on with worm drive clamps. Take it for a short drive just enough to get the coolant hot. Then tighten all those worm drive clamps. The hose rubber gets soft when it gets hot. If you don't retighten them there is a good chance they will blow off the first time it gets really hot and goes full pressure. Ask me how I know.
All your videos Eric o are a learning experience for me. I learn something new everytime, I watch the same videos over just to catch stuff I miss. Plus I'm a big ASTRO tool fanatic now lol thanks to you. That is a nice little tid bit of information about the spring clamps cracking like that, pretty awesome stuff as always Eric O. Have a wonderful evening and God bless you and your family…. Sorry my husband is watching YouTube on my phone, His is precision auto diagnostics and repair when he comments lol…
Text drive along the Avenue of Flags! Cool.
They could make those clamps out of stainless steel but that would have cost another 25¢.
This is a profound statement
With price of coolant nowadays you can't afford no leaks i had top radiator hose weeping even after tightening it so i pulled it apart and metal was a bit crusty so i sanded it smooth problem solved no parts needed 'LOL
Do you read the comments?
I worked with a guy that pressurized a fuel bladder in the wing of an airplane to leak check it…this is perfectly safe when door properly…but when you plug the air line in without dialing the regulator back to 0, POP…..that’s when it gets exciting 😂😂😂😂
Yep,honesty is Eric's policy. Gotta love that. A liar don't get repeat customers. Thanks!
Well hell if it’s got a new water pump that’s probably the problem 😂😂😂😂😂
I’m sure you know how come mr. O has such a backlog, you just saw why.
That repair was easy for someone who ha 2 foot long pry bars and screw drivers. Doing that in the driveway with normal tools from underneath would have been painful and messy. It makes you wonder about these customers who don't even check the radiator for an over heating problem. Great work as always, Eric.
👍👍
Great video! Thanks for bringing us along!
I had an 02 that the sensor in the left head had a bad pig tail and would intermittent cut out and put the truck in limp mode
DONT BE KNOCKING ON THE SPLASH MAN! lol in all honesty they are good little trucks
Back in 04 , I bought a brand new GMC 2500
It has the fuel efficient 6.0.
Went to drive it to work and had no heat , parked it and found the bottom rad hose clamp came off in 2 pieces. The stealership wouldn't even give me new coolant. Don't buy anything from the stealership in schererville , IN.
No Gerber E.A.B.-this time. 😵
I can’t imagine dealing with road salt cars daily.
2nd degree burns on my foot from one of those hose clamps. Did you check the codes just in case the lack of power wasn't related.
Fantastic to see honest mechanics still exist 💯great to see Mr O 👌👌👌
There are some that would be trying sell a radiator full flush hoses the works 🫣🤑🤑🤑

Eric,
Great video – thank you! You never said what happened with the CEL – was it not related to the coolant issue?
SMA#1
Paul (in MA)
Glad it was an easy fix. Coolant has got to go somewhere. Looks like a nice town you're in.
Just have to be careful with the worm type clamps if tightened to tight can crack the plastic hose neck?
no frame left… I hate when that happens
"everything's just fine … until it's not"
That truck doesn't ssafe t be on the road…
I hate to say it, but Pam Anderson stopping by isn't a flex anymore. 🤣
Good vid ! I Have those same Clamps on My 1999 Dodge Ram Diesel Radiator. I Had a New Radiator put in it a While back / maybe a few years ago & the guy Did NOT Use New Clamps. Are Those Clamps reliable or Do you Think i Should Pop for Some Super de-luxe New Marine Rated Screw clamps. I’m in California. I’m Thinking 23 years is Wayyy over due for New Hose Clamps ! Everything is pretty much original under the hood except for radiator & water pump & belt & Batterys ( I replace every 4 years ) religiously. 207,000 miles on truck.
Hey you have Pamela Anderson's Sport Splash, and I have Farrah Fawcett's white 1975 Ford Mustang Cobra in town!! (Charlie's Angels, season 1, 1976.)
