Hi Ray, what refrigerant do you use if you get an old R12 system in, do you have a drop in gas, or covert to R134a, with oil and drier change?

I had a 90 Honda Accord when i lived in Boston that had leaves and other crap in the blower motor. I remember driving while it was snowing and my blower motor went out so I had not defroster. I got mad and I threw one leg over and kicked it a few times to get it working. That worked for a while until I replaced it with a junk yard blower motor. Ah the good ol days of being a broke college kid.

In the air conditioner field is called a decay test And it's not 29.9 PSI cause you've got to remember it's in microns and you need to be at least below 500 microns Does your digital meter that's built into that thing read microns I always wondered about that
First, I live in the country and we do have rodents!! I had an 86 Dodge K car that the mice thought the fan was a motel! I had to stand on my head to get that thing taken apart and originally it took about an hour. It happened so often I got it down to about 10 minutes! I wish it was as easy as this truck!!

I remember the big chryslers in early eighties running the R12 refrigerant ,was a couple of pounds. Used to see ice 🧊 crystals come out of the vents.
I had a mouse trying to make his home in my glove box. I opened the glove box door and scared him and he took off, scared me too! Had a huge ball of fuzz in there. Took off the door and cleaned it out. Put tin foil behind the glove box and in the glove box itself. I heard mice hate the stuff.
Brings to mind my 2003 Caravan. Had it in for new tires. I do most of my own work but I don't do tires. anyway when I picked up the van at the end of day, service personal said I needed a new fan in the back unit, it was vibrating, Which I knew it was but their estimate of repairs was about 350 parts and labor, and if a person didn;t know what they was doing they could really screw the A/C system up. They never even considered that I was a mechanic for 35 years. Told em I would take care of it. It had happened before, the so called sound material Chrysler uses disintergrates with time and winds up in the squirrel cage, I know this as I had cleaned it before. Just sort of chuckled as I went out the door and said boy I hope I don't screw this up. Enjoy you clips. Didn't get to much into scanning a lot of that technology was coming in as I was going out of the automotive field, Drove truck for 20 years then retired 4 years ago
I'm a retired A/C tech. That Robinaire machine sure is slick. You don't want to know how we used to do it. Horse and buggy days. No cabin filter in the older Toyotas. I have an 03 and a rat crawled into the blower and died when I spun him around running the fan. Way out of balance. Gotta get them out before they stink when that happens.

Those A/C valves look very similar to the valve inside a bicycle tube if you were to remove the valve from the stem.
Leaves and debris that get pass the inlet screen tend to pile up on top of the horizontal filter right above the blower. When just pulling the dirty filter out of it's slot, this stuff gets scraped off and dumped right into the blowers squirrel cage. After having to vacuum out the cage in place once, I made a thin cardboard insert to slide blocking the blower inlet under the filter when changing the filter out just to catch any piles of crud or leaves that gets scraped off. What gets pass the blower will end up in the coils that aren't easily accessible. I hope you checked the filter as well. Out camping, I have had rodents nibble holes in both cabin and engine filters as well as windshield washer fluid getting sucked in and damaging the filter.
noticed the FLICKING of the switches… vehicle that old you don't want to FLICK the switches (like a 12y/o) something will break… too heavy handed for my liking.. !
Hey rainman I was wondering what is the difference on the valves you replaced where you connected the hoses? Never done any ac work to my truck.
Not gonna read through all the comments, but a/c tech here 👋🏻. It came in low and all you did was charge it and dye it. You didn't fix the leak though. Now they get to come in again and get it fixed again. Just saying. Oil is the smoke, electronic leak detector will help you find if it is a oily mess. Also use some of your minty nitrogen tire filler that makes unicorns cum and pressurize the system to go to soap bubble town. Find the leak!!!!!!. Probably an o-ring or hose, but you know all things exist in reality. Anyway like your vids, just ragging. Keep on fixin.

Because you put in 1.34 not 1.43lbs the A/C will blow up the western world….
One thing to note: when cleaning out the cages, make sure you don't accidentally remove any weight clips that might have been installed when they balanced this wheel. These tiny weights are just like the weights used to balance wheels, only tiny and usually made of aluminum. Compressed air has a tendency to make these go bye bye. If you do see a weight, mark the location with a sharpie before cleaning so you know where it goes if it flies/falls off when cleaning.
My brother had a 2008 trail blazer he kept having dog food come up missing from his car port the fan in the TB started vibrating so bad it would shake the dash took blower out it had 5 lbs of dig food in it lol

I added FrogzSkin material under my cowling intake area on my 2016 F450 to keep debris out. 2017 they put a cabin filter in place. Ford dropped the ball, my 2002 gmc 2500 has a cabin filter.

We recently found a dead rat inside the blower motor fan of a '21 Explorer we had at our dealership. Needless to say, this repair was NOT covered under warranty.

That big machine doesn’t read Microns? If you have a leak it will never pull under 1000, that’s how we fully determine in HVAC
I'm surprised when changing valves you dont pump nitrogen in through the other side (with expansion valves open) to keep dirt from entering the system, or moisture. You'd still need to pull it into a vacuum when done, but you wouldnt have to wait for any moisture to evaporate and come out (assuming the system was dry to start)

When I decline the nitrogen cost at the tire shop I tell them I have custom blend of air at home that I fill the tires with which includes some helium, neon, and hydrogen. The mouth breathers at the tire shop never get it, they're always pushing the nitrogen!
