the yellow part of the stripper is for setting the length of the newly exposed wires.

Something I learnt on a course last week.
Solder should flow at a temperature 150°c lower than the solder iron.
The Milwaukee irons run at about 400°c there for the solder should be a 250°c spec.
Most lead free solder is 270°c spec.
For awesome soldering using a battery iron, seek out some silver content solder. It melts at 230°c so flows really well and gives a better joint, and is much easier. 👌
In this throw away, just renew it, don't be an engineer age it's good to see people who still repair, modify or adapt their tools to be what they want them to be. I have a second really good battery charger / conditioner that I repaired the leads on after my son just threw it away because the leads snapped off of the terminal strip inside. It works perfectly

Instead of using the bolts, couldn’t you have just soldered the wires straight to clamp?
I have to say, having those leads being different lengths would drive me absolutely *insane*.

finally! someone making mechanical and soldered connection! – just a top: when you are soldering heavy duty connections you are far better off using the chisel style tip on you soldering iron, the fine point more suited to pcb work

I cringed when you had your money makers in the "Line of Fire" of the drill bit putting in the holes.
I use a cut off wheel to open boxes all the time
Why don't you cut that loop then put the wire in n crimp it on the wire
Use pliers to hold the clamps
Not enough can be said about tool maintenance
Just cut the loop and then bend the tangs over the wire like the ones at the back.

use heat gun to remove plastic from terminal ends more easily.
Use flux when soldering. Wipe excess after soldering.

I have a pair of those Irwin strippers. HATE them. If the wire has even a slightly slick finish, they don't work unless you use one hand to hold the grippers down and the other to operate the stripper. I bought a cheap Chinesium pair off Amazon that work perfectly every time.
Jury rigging 101
Love the opening of packaging! Just in case you don't know, but on your wire strippers is a small wheel with a + and – sign, if you have a bigger wire and find it's difficult to strip, if you adjust the wheel positive position it will be more aggressive in the operation of cutting and stripping, but if you find on smaller thin wire, the stripper (fox whistle) is just cutting the wire and not stripping, roll the wheel back on the negative side and the stripper becomes less aggressive. Tool use tip of the day, lol! No cars but still doing something, love it. As I use to tell the probies at my Fire Department, "If you have nothing to do, don't do it around here!"
Ray, having acquired the best wire strippers in the world. That yellow plastic bit on the tool you can adjust as it has a foot. Push it out to the required length of wire to be stripped. Place wire up against foot and operate. That way if you are stripping multiple wires they are all the same length.Same if stripped wire has to be a certain length easy.
As for soldering, use some soldering flux. This is like a thick grease . Put the flux onto bare wires heat and add solder at same time. Solder will flow into wires so much better. Also you won’t have to go back and forth with the soldering iron.

Ray your a great mechanic and I love your videos but that was painful to watch. The loops are soldering points. Pre solder the ends then crimp at the loops then solder in place.
Once again, you really need to use the lineman splice, but at least you did establish a good mechanical connection with the spliced wires.
You also not only didn't need the nut and bolt on the clamps, but it has negated any good connection with the solder joint, because over time, the bolt will work its way loose, and cause your battery meter to read incorrectly. You've created many more unnecessary connection points than are needed, opening up many more points of failure for the future.
What you should have done, was to establish a good mechanical connection on the clamp, via the crimping part of the clamp, then soldering it to the clamp as well.
You really over thought this project, and in doing so, has opened it up to being inaccurate in the future.
Should have used flux so it soaks in to the braid of the wires.
Odd to have both wires going to the same clamp. I know that it is because of the current draw and heat. I would use clamps and conductors sufficient to carry the load.
Just a helpful hint for the third hands (wire holders). I have had problems with the teeth cutting into the insulation so I put small pieces of heat shrink on the jaws to protect the wires.
