Glad you're here! Uh, that's the toolbox moving trailer. You guys have seen it before a couple times it is uh, it's hooked up to the truck and it's backed up to the shop. Yeah, truck's right over there. I've got toolbox moving trailer out.
um it's moving day because I had uh I ran across really good deal and I uh I got myself some new equipment I mean it's new to me, it's not new, new but new to me I got I got a nice cherry picker for picking up engines and transmissions and axles and whatnot. We've got a really nice solid steel work table I really really needed this thing I got a hold of a couple Drums of oil. kind of a bonus and of course the the Crown Jewel of the purchase. Uh, really nice brake lathe.
I mean really really nice brake light. It needs cleaned up you know, because it does get used. but I'm excited to be able to uh to machine metal once again. I think there was something else in here? Oh yeah yeah.
I got a uh, another uh, another little jack stand thing. so yeah, it's move-in day I Got the toolbox moving trailer out. just kind of wanted to make the announcement I got some goodies. Hope you guys didn't think in the start of the video that I was uh, moving out of the shop because that's not going to happen.

It's smart to buy anything that you can used unless it's something that you really work very hard. One of my key duplicators, my favorite, was just sitting there waiting for me in a Salvation Army store. I used it for over 10 years prior to retiring, it's living in a storage tub in my garage just in case I decide to go back into the locksmith business part time in my new home.

I thought brake lathes were outdated. Seems drums and rotors are just replaced today. Even before I retired 8 years ago we rarely used ours anymore.

Just a suggestion, before you get your steel work table all dirty, greasy and scratched, I would coat AT LEAST the top with POR 15. That stuff is indestructible and will protect the top (and legs and frame if you so choose to do so. It hakes it so much easier to keep clean and you can't scratch or chip it.
New tools are so exciting! I share your excitement and can't wait to see new tools used in upcoming videos.

Nice catch: now you can do a full brake service and save your customers some money. The table will be so nice when you have dirty parts on it. Set it up with a drain so anything that you drain out will make it easy to clean the bench off and keep the floor clean.

YEARS AGO I CLEANED UP A BRAKE SHOP & GOT IT RENT READY FOR NEW TENNANTS…WHERE THAT LATHE WAS…FILTHY DIRTY!!! BUT I KNOW HOW TO CLEAN…SO IT WAS READY IN 6 HOURS…MY HANDS WERE BLACK…GLAD I HAD THE RIGHT CLEANER FOR THE BLACK SOOTY PAD & SHOE POWDER LEFT…OWNER OF BUILDING WAS VERY HAPPY!!! (LAS VEGAS AREA)

I will never own a brake lathe for my shop. Rotors today are not meant to be turned. 2 sets of pads maybe 3 if lucky then done.
I've got two of those steel work benches in my garage. A former employer of mine was going to toss them in the trash cause they said they were junk.
All they needed was for the bolts to be tightened up and a nice coat of paint!
I've had them for about 25 years now.
I saw the trailer and had PTSD thinking you got fired again… err, had a difference of opinion with management. Yes, I've been watching since the dealership days.
But then I remembered that you're management.

OHH I have a thought on that solid metal table. you could prop the front feet up just slightly. here is why 🙂 please read this! You can drill a half in hole on the backing side with a catch basin of some sort underneath it (to catch waste oil or whatever. So if you have oily parts being taken apart it will drain to that spot. Please feel free to comment or add anything to my suggestion. all you need is a couple of degrees of tilt. you wont even notice that it is not a "flat" surface. (I have done this personally, It really does work well.) Here is the edit by "flat" I meant "level" It is for certain still a nice flat surface 🙂
You might want to consider adding a piano style hinged piece of diamond plate or some other steel at the end of your ramp. Then you could just flip it over and not have to worry about using the wood for going on and off the ramp. Relatively cheap and easy fix would save some future effort.
