This is why Scotty says not to get the newer nissan sedan. Their transmissions are horrible.
Buy here pay here are a huge risk. Never really seen anything great from one.
Every time ray says about working in the shade I think of saying “ oh you are going to become a shady tree machanic”
All I can say is that I've known a few people that have had major problems with Nissan's. I would never buy a Nissan. They can't be trusted to be reliable.
CVT transmissions are just problematic.
Had a 2004 Murano. Drove it a good while. Did change the trans fluid a few times. It was fine for us for about 150,000 miles and then gave it to a relative. Then the trans crapped out. Then I heard how lucky we were that it lasted as long as it did for us. Seems well outside the norm.
Providing the car lot is decent and maybe can help with the fix. But we don't know how she drive the car for they month she had it. Could have had a boyfriend that beat the piss out of it
People really don’t take of their stuff. I know JALCO doesn’t make the best CVT transmissions, but I’ve noticed that people barely service these things if at all.
if they got it for a good price on it, invest in the trans and you'll be trouble free for a long time. If it's a $5000 car and needs $3000 repairs, is it worth $8000 to you?
Oh. I see no one learned from Ford's misdeeds of strange parts placement. Did the clogged oil/coolant HX in my 06 F-350 w/ 6.0. Now I call that location "Death Valley". Dealer performed other work without properly flushing engine post procedure. I guess it takes an A&P Tech to fix it right. BTW, that dealer has since went away. However, you seem to do it the right way, Ray. Good wishes from Edwards AFB.
"Buy Here, Pay Here" lots are the absolute worst… goddamn scam artists. A buddy of mine got scammed HARD by one, a few years ago. He literally signed away his rights, and didn't realize it, because he has a learning disability, and didn't fully understand what he was signing.
"Let's go try to drive this thing, and see if it goes or not" But Ray, the customer states it doesn't go.. 🤣
I bought my daughter the same pink monkey at the dollar tree.
A transmission should not fail at 91000 miles. Did first transmission change on my 2000 Lexus rx300 a couple years ago at 210000 miles. First time changed. Yeah it was dark and probably needed..although the stupid manual says no need to change. My point is…if any trans should have failed it would be mine…but it didn't..because the damned thing was well built. Still rolling by the way .trans is smooth as ever.
Their first problem is buying a Nissan lol But Buy Here Pay Here SUCK ASS NEVER GO TO ONE EVER
I'd check the oil every time I did a test drive too don't want to be blamed
Cvt
Biggest problem with most Nissans are the CVT transmissions. They have lousy trans coolers, and I’m never going to think that a cvt can be engineered tough enough to last long enough in automotive applications, plus they’re incredibly painful to rebuild. (Some manufacturers even say they cannot be rebuilt, which essentially just makes them throw away transmissions) CVT style transmissions might be okay for snowmobiles, but I wouldn’t trust one in anything larger than that. If I’m not mistaken, CVT transmissions are also a reason why new Nissans are cheaper than other manufacturers products because the CVT’s themselves are cheaper to build.
Had a fleetfarm change my wife's grand caravans oil.. 10 yr old van and they torqued the oil filter cap and twisted the plastic housing.. claimed no fault of their own. 800$ oil change so lovely.. those oil coolers are junk.
These buyers would have benefited greatly if they listened to Scotty Kilmer and his deep dive on the various year models of Toyotas .
3.6 is a great engine “ taken care of” . It’s a corporate motor for a reason. Lol it’s the people that drive them to death that give the motor a bad name. Take care of your motor it will last.
I love that Snap On code reader but the $2K is way too rich for a shade tree mechanic like me.
sad but dodo does occur……feel ya man….bad news no fun
a Civic or Corolla would have been a better option.
I like this video and I think you're wise to cut your losses when you notice it's above your head or your pay grade in the facility where you work but you did the right thing.
Buy here, Pay here lots: A guy who worked for me in an entirely different business left. He opened a Buy here, Pay here lot. He told me it was a common practice to resell the same car multiple times!!!! How? If buyer one missed a few payments, the repo the car and give the buyer a short time period to pay up. If buyer one doesn't make said payment, car gets sold to buyer two. Rinse and repeat. Overall, it seems like a slimey business to me. And the cars they sold were, for the most part, at the end of their useful life span. I was surprised to hear him tell these stories as he never struck me as an unethical guy. I'm sure some of these lots are okay, but I'd never buy a car from one of them. Sadly. some people are in dire straights and have no other choice. That's why these lots exist. I hope the family that bought this one gets a fair resolution. I'd suggest going to a good reputable delaership. They do have all kinds of credit programs for all kinds of situations. The big problem right now is, used cars are the most expensive they've been, ever. Why? Due to the severe inventory shortage on new inventory. What a kerfuffle.
Shop could use a large truck bay or 2 , As always neak video
I understood from other videos and sources, that CVTs were generally unreliable to begin with…
They should be under manufacturer recall, shouldn't they ?
Always have a qualified mechanic check out a used vehicle prior to purchase!
Nissan knows the CVTs they sell are junk just like the trans coolers on the frontiers are junk so are the nissan trans I’ll never buy one there is a reason those crap boxes are sold so cheap not even GEO METRO was this bad
Thank you for being a 100% man !
You watch Dan Hurd. I can tell. 🙂
Most but here pay here lots sorry to say sells everything AS IS..
in regard to the first part of the video , the Nissan Versa , so these buy here pay here car lots , are the vehicles sold not covered by any kind of a warrantee ? here in Australia a used car is covered by a 3 or 12 month guarantee , depending on how much you paid for the vehicle . Are these so called buy here pay here car yards exempt from any such guarantee ? if so you have some really f@cked consumer protection laws . I really hope the person who bought that Nissan gets looked after , either a refund or a repair , at least a replacement transmission , even a junkyard unit would be better than nothing .
Terrible for the folks, that sucks.
The customer needs to contact Nissan Consumer Affairs. Nissan was replacing the CVT free of Charge, after extending the warranty to 120,000 miles. My used 2008 Altima CVT died at 110,000. Called NCA, and they approved the replacement. I will say that on our 2008 Rogue SL, we went 401,000 miles, with no issues at all. Now granted, I had the CVT fluid changed every 60,000 miles, but, it never gave us any trouble.
