That 3 valve engine is known for this. The only sure fix is a new engine. Otherwise, you're throwing your money away trying to repair it.

Yeah, that's a new engine replacement. It's a big gamble to salvage that engine. That's going to be money down the crap shoot.

Junkiest engine ever made LOL, won't last even if you throw s new timing chain on. Now show a Chevy 5.7 Vortec timing chain and the cost to replace each, just saying.

Not surprised on a Trident. I tell my customers when they see these for sale….RUN…don't walk away!! Worst engines ever! Not even gonna start on the repairs I've had to do from spark plugs to variable timing components.
One thing with aluminium is a magnet can't catch them.
This engine, based on what I've heard about 5.4s should be replaced.
It's missing 2 guides: one on each bank. Engine is sludged looking at the cam phaser, so those need to be replaced for sure. It's definitely a gamble, and a rebuilt motor is about $3500, but the install labor vs. repair current motor labor is about the same.
What's the clock what's the mileage time on the clock
What's the cost of replacing those timing chains and stuff like that you have to take that into account I think it's worth a try it looks like that's a fairly cheap job it's easy to get to how much does it cost to replace a timing chains should it be done at like 75,000 miles or something
Not a 4.6, it's a 5.4 if it's an 05, 4.6 never had cam phazers until 2009.

I think it's aluminum shaving so maybe it's not that bad as steel can you still use the cover can you still fix the engine I think that's regular maintenance you should replace those after a certain number of miles
Hell yeah, let them take an 8 year old car back to the dealer to lemon law it. Tell them to keep you posted on their progress. I bet they leave with a new Ferd and car payments.
So far from what I have seen, Steve Leto will probably agree, this does not qualify for the Lemon Law.

Fords 5.4 3-valve Triton engine is know for a laundry list of issues, and the timing chain is one of them.
Pull the engine. Buy a Motorcraft reman for $5,000, than comes with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty.
This is how my dad's f150 was his was at 130k oil pick up was clogged up with chain guide timing cover also had a hole carved in it from the belt tensioner
This happened to my 5.4 as well. Ended up putting more money into it, than it was worth.
Customer states "Just starting making rattling noise". I let my truck (2006 F-150 5.4L) go for an entire year with a rattling timing chain at startup due to the bad plastic chain tensioners, before I finally replaced the guides, chains, chain tensioners (metal ones) and cam phasers (and the newer roller followers and lash adjusters), and Melling M340HV oil pump., and didn't have that extensive damage to the timing cover.
Bad gas
Had the timing chain issues with my 2004 F150. The mechanic at Ford told me these fail because people don't stick with the recommended 5/20 oil and many of those parts run off oil pressure. Many quick lube shops do not carry 5/20 so they go with 10/30 or 10/40 oil.
sounds totally like someone boight a car they dont like or got into a loan they hate the payment on and now want out from under the car…!! ha!! lemon law on a 9 year old 55k mile car LOLOLOL… looks like a really nice car ..
id like see if it will run first before junking it just to play with it at that point
The 2014 Ford Focus has the DCT if I remember correctly and I wouldn't touch one of them with a 10' pole! Ford never got the electronics right on that tranny.
Ford's better idea since they ruined the early 4.0 engine I dearly loved by adding overhead cams and those long chains /sliders. I see ads for Ford trucks all the time with around 200k miles or more that state the engine has a rattle! Then they find out just how expensive the chains and slides replacement is.
