In this video i have a look at a 2003 Chevrolet 1500 that has a P0446 Canister Vent Valve Performance code stored in it. Before you load the parts cannon have a look at the system and see if the vent valve is really the issue. -Enjoy!

Thanks Eric, I really enjoy the videos. I’m a mechanic and I still don’t understand the EVAP System and purpose if you can explain and clarify I would appreciate it.

Will a gas cap cause a p0446 also?

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James says:

I have a 04 silverado 1500. I'm a truck driver so I decided I don't have time to be messing around with an almost 20year old truck. I replaced gas cap, canister and solenoid all at once. So far no return codes.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John E. Carr says:

    Great video.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Thomas McCaslin says:

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 with only 68,000 miles with a code p0446. Checked the gas cap, used a code reader and reset/erased code and engine light went off. Drove down the street and came back on. So…any ideas? Thanks

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Timmel says:

Scotty Kilmer says to never go the next dollar while filling your gas tank once the pump handle clicks off. Don't put in a cent more. Overfilling will flood your charcoal cannister and mess up your purge valve. Good advice, I think.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dale and Darren Fredrickson says:

I have the same truck. would an evap system failure cause misfires and backfires? the engine checks out fine on a vac/compression test and all new ignition that tests ok. tech w/ snapon zeus said everything is perfect on engine data. getting p0445 and general misfies on the computer. chasing a ghost here -.-

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JL16 says:

My canister had engine oil coming out of one of the ports. Not a lot, maybe like index finger tip wise. Is that normal? Engine light turn off for now after blowing it with the compressor. Also no dust came out like some of the other videos.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nick campbell says:

I've got an 05 with the same code auto zone printout said evap canister.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Simple Electronics says:

We have these issues on CRVs when customers try to squeeze more fuel into their tank after the pump clicks off, the fuel gets in and eats the sponge filter that keeps the charcoal in and little tiny bits of charcoal get sucked into the purge and blocks it open. We have to replace the canister, the purge valve and blow out the line in-between. Hope it was worth it to hit 50$ exactly on the pump!

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Dondero says:

I’ve watched a lot of your videos. Love that your a great family guy and your videos show you are an expert in the field. Tx for helping me learn on stuff. 👍

Great video👍. I can fix just about anything on a car or truck. I’m just not much up on emission controls. I have an ‘04 Chevy 1500 and you have schooled me on checking and not guessing. I can’t afford a scan tool like you have but I have a BlueDriver, yeah I know not the same thing but I believe there’s a live data feature. Now with some better knowledge from your vids I have somewhat a better understanding of my EVAP system and what’s going on. Movin’ forward. Thanks man!
