In this I have a look at a Chevrolet Captiva that was dropped off by a customer who purchased it used with low mileage. It appears the car must have been jump started back words perhaps. At any rate it appears that one way or another somehow, somewhere the smoke was let out of a few modules after a battery replacement. let me know your thoughts -Enjoy!

I think the tool manufactures bribe the engineers to change fastners on new cars. My resones for this is, it costs me thousands every time they change them. There are millions of mechanics that have to keep up their tools so….!?

I had all the same issues as this Captiva albeit I have a Saturn Vue (same vehicle). I was at the point of replacing the BCM until I finally figured out all it needed was a positive battery cable. So code B1000 even if you have it doesn't necessarily mean a BCM is required like the manual says. The BCM is acting towards the voltage spikes because of the cable. The reactions make it appear that bcm is faulty.

Even a real mechanic "professional" questions themselves at times. Good job very realistic and as the gentleman said prior to my comment it's comforting watch some of the minor struggles with disassembly and the fear of breaking stuff.

I know nothing about cars, but I have a Captiva 2012. I've paid 500 twice to replace the battery cables because it would just lose power driving down the road. (Of course it wouldn't do it at the shop so I would get the "are you sure lady, can't find anything wrong" attitude…. don't get me started on the 1/4 inch thick plastic door handles. I finally just learned how to take the door apart and replace them myself…

I believe that the Chevy Captiva could not be purchased new from a dealer. The car was
produced for fleet sales, think rental car. I have rented one, I did not find it a pleasant car to drive.

I know the GM BCM's don't like losing their ground(s) and if I remember right there's a TSB for this.
Always interesting to wonder why they fail 🤔?
I always worry about it when disconnecting them…they warn against doing so without disabling the battery in the TSB. But who knows, they warn about doing that on everything so???

I am curious why you left the key one while removing the BCM? Generally, it is not good practice to leave components powered when disconnecting connectors and such.

You had me on the floor laughing when you said if their engines stuck together this good they'd be a great company .
We just traded off y wife's 2012 Captiva with over 112,000 miles and not one major repair. Just tires, battery, oil changes and a few car washes. BUT!!!! the one thing that I did experience was when the battery is getting low on voltage, you can not remove the key from the ignition, in fact you can not even turn the engine off!!!!!!!! I was told by the dealer this was by design so you don't get stranded. Oh really!!!!! That was the only problem with the Captiva. Only one wheel alignment after on set of new tires were installed the the tire guy checked the alignment and accomplished that for us. We had just a slight pull to the left, was not really that bad, but enough to get your attention. One other was replacing the cruise control unit on the steering wheel, Now that was fun, you have to remove the driver's air bag. Thank goodness for YouTube.

So incredibly complicated to fix or repair autos today. The average home handyman cannot do it any more., Our best solution is to find an independent auto repair shop, treat them right, stick to our day jobs.
