That was so great how you mapped out the correct path and didn't let the confusion and anomalies lead you to tear apart the cowl or access to the bodywork.
The electrical problem was originally the A/C fuse and whatever you had now had to relate to the work that was just done before it came to you.
That new GM wiring is a comedy of material saving and lightweight material in use and alot of plastic.
It sucks. You can't just depend on anything like previous years were. So methodically, you had to arrive at the grip of the fitment as the cause. Under load a circuit has to carry the current and using less material reduces the surface areas of those multiple pins.
Just the way they went about assembling could result in the cause. The way you repeated the operation resulted in the correction. It seems.
The backfeed led to the wiggle test that helped you by the sounds.
Bizarre was the right term.
That plug you just plugged in got your good ground you can that plug can be plugged in totally 180° I did that been there cost me $1,000 or figure it out

I chased a parasitic draw on a 2010 cobalt for a year and a half. The dome light bulb was blown and it kept trying to dim the light. Could never find it because door was open while testing. It took a week not driving to run battery dead. Every 15 minutes it would try dimming the light.
What do you charge for something like this?
My 2005 Cobalt only has 262,000 and still runs/drives great. Great pizza/DoorDash car.

Had the same ground problem it was not the grounds under the fill tank , the problem was the 6 grounds under the radiator hose , they was hard to see even pulling the radiator hose back , this video was helpful in some of the chase though thanks
Being from a construction background my brain works different . I would approach this from the, what wiring is connected to the cowl, or, what wiring is connected to things attached to that cowl

They have a recall on the ignition cylinder and the car can shut off while driving

Perplexing problem!
Been watching loads of your content, that was one of the best. Wish you were in the uk, had to scrap a merc slk. convertible recently due to electrical issues, no one had a clue, They said moisture in fuse box, engine starts can’t turn off, every light on dash came one at once. Loved that car
It could be nothing… my first thought, or it could be everything…lol.
Wasn’t the cobalt a revamped cavalier? I had a rust box cavalier with a bad gas gauge. Bad oil sensor. And went through 40 rebuilt steering pump (they all leaked). Until I paid for the genuine new part. Hated that car. No power. Nothing. Was my very first car many years ago.
I know there’s been times where I had to remove those fuse boxes on gm cars to do certain jobs and after putting them back together I’ve had them not start or have other weird issues. Every time the fix was to unplug the box and plug it all back in and they were fine and are still fine. I could never figure out exactly why I had to do it because all the connections were seated right with no bent pins. Those gm boxes are just finicky lol
It's easy to say "Bad Ground". But it takes a good Technician to actually find the bad Ground and repair it. Great job bro.

Do you have a multi-meter? When tracing electrical circuits it is an indispensable tool. You had an improperly connected ground connection causing your power circuit to search for a ground. It found a ground through a key on/run power circuit (through the power circuit in the wiper motor). When the cowling was flexed it disrupted the ground of the wiper circuit causing loss of ground to everything. I did electrical diagnosis/repair for years.
What about the blown AC fuse set to 25 amps? Still no AC? Sorry just my OCD. I wouldn’t trust sending it back to have them smoke another fuse box and blame it on me.
Step-1: Go WIlly-Nilly….
Step-2: Take a logical approach to the problem, with step-by-step troubleshooting…

Yeah, I know I’m late but being an electronic technician I’m wondering how the ground side of the relay made a path to the wiper motor. It had to be shorted to there and it had to be shorted at the fuse box circuit board, through some kind of consecutive debris. When Eric tilted the fuse-box sideways, whatever conductive debris was shorting the traces on the circuit board, fell off.
If watching with the captions on, Everytime a car passes the shop it says [applause], and sometimes at the most hilarious times of the video. Nonetheless, great video Eric! Thank you for posting, I know this video is older, but I watch your channel every chance I get.
The wiper 'fix' actually was misleading…but an interesting sidetrack. I have seen this several times with other connectors, the bent pin would not allow the connector to fully seat…even thought it was tight
it was not fully seated…therefore the f2 pin was not making contact.. It used to happen all the time with computer connectors,
my office is right by a lunchtime alarm too but they let you know its lunchtime and blast it for at least 2 minutes. I hate it every time.
You talk about diagnosing and focusing on one problem at a time. I had a writing problem with an 06 Cobalt and I can confirm, considering all the problems as common and finding the cause based on that went nowhere. The solution was to focus on one at a time. There was some hackery in the fuse box I never figured out, but at least I got the car functioning and legal. I hate when someone else has already been into the wiring.
IMHO. I've had trouble with damp fuse boxes. Any time they are apart, I give then a spray with fluid film or the like. Keep it dry, keep the green away
