The old s/10 2.2L was just as bad. Had to remove a dozen things for a simple job.
To remove the 2nd or first spark plug i cant remember which, you had to remove the ac compressor. To move the ac compressor you have to remove the belt. To remove the belt you had to remove the fan shroud. To remove the shroud you had to remove the intake tube/box thing that covered the shroud. To remove that you had to remove the top radiator hose.
All if that to access a single spark plug.

You would have been money ahead to pull the engine. You gotta love GM engineers/designers, somehow I think they have a hard on for mechanics. I'm done.
You need to try Milwaukee M18 Fuel Rachet and 1/2 stuby impact. OMG you would love using that on working on the vehicle. Way faster and better than air tools. Far quieter. My son and I plus many co-workers use it in the shipyard all day.
Why I will never own a GM product or Dodge for that matter. Ford trucks and German engineering.

I don't know if it will work on gas engines or not but if you take a breaker bar over to frame rail. May need pipe to extend bar. Have someone tap the.key. Breaks the snout loose a Duramáx anyways.

Eric, we have a 2004 Chevy Colorado. It does a nose dive at around 2100 – 2300 rpm under moderate acceleration. The codes just to list a few are:

If you feather the throttle you can keep it running. It starts fine, idles good but has appeared to lose power and performance. Any clues what to do? KB

Remember how simple the chevy luv was in 76 and the s10 was in 81 with the isuzu engine and when it began loosing it power you sent it cause there was no fixing the isuzu and after seeing what your going through I wont want any of them to fix that's for sure
You may as well spit it out it's over engineered you cant begin to fix it till you've taken every engineered ideal out of the way first you probably should have started at the oil plug it takes the same amount of time lol

To take this valve cover off this Colorado is as rediculous as I used to think about Ford pickup spark plugs. If this was done in a Chevy shop this would be 2000 dollars.

I know this is an old video. Re sensitivity: The old chain is 0.4% longer. To put that in perspective: a bicycle chain is considered "bad" at a stretch of 0.5%. Of course you can continue to use the bicycle chain, but it will excessively wear down your sprockets and then you have to buy a new casette and chain rings in addition to your chain, because the chain slips over the cogs when you pedal 😉

Just wanted to be the one guy who defends this engine …. my lowered single cab 2.9l (basically the same as 2.8) 5 speed manual with possi welded rearend and caltrax for traction has 313,000 miles on it and it lives at 5,500 rpms lol 😆
I guess the Ford Ranger was really built 'Tough' I have a Colorado myself with a skyjacker lift, but damn come to think about it, I've seen many rangers still going strong, and it's rare to see an s10 or an old colorado still running on the streets. Unless it's a new colorado.
Hi Eric, Was wondering why u just didnt put the engine round on her timing marks after u pulled the cam cover off!!?…..instead of all that balony of counting teeth and getting all confused..cos u will also have sprocket wear that ur calc's will not account for and it would be a hell of a lot quicker…cos the crank sprocket's alignment mark will show up very clearly if there was any stetch on the chain/sprocket wear due to the crank sprockets ratio being 2:1 with the cam sprocket!!…and of course u will see the discrepency because u see the wear over the entire chain length including 3 points of contact(2 cams and 1 crank) with sprockets.
Great video and diagnosing all the same,,,im sure u cant think of every possibility when the camera is running!!! lol

I have an 05 Colorado ext cab, but same motor as this one, 280 k miles on the clock, rides very good and just take about a quart of oil between oil changes (every 4K). I use as a work truck and i"m very happy with it, when it hits 300 k I might get something newer, but I'm even considering getting a newer 3.5 or 3.7 with low miles. Very little expenses thru these 280 k miles
