In a recent video https://youtu.be/kjnj9hMCsdw we had this Chevy Impala dropped off by a used car dealer with a story of, "I got this great deal on this here Impala and I took into "shop xyx" for an oil change and when I left the door locks didn't work and the trunk won't open!" Well as you will see in this video there is always more to the story... -Enjoy!

This is a great video! I don't know about the others that saw this video, but I like that diagnostic computer, damn, I gotta get one of them, but I'm sure they cost a pretty penny. But to me this is by far one of if not the best auto diagnosis and repair videos I've seen in a while. This guy really knows what he's doing! Soon as I'm done typing, I'm subscribing.

2006 Impala – Drivers door lock not working for open – closes fine – see video & think door lock bad – nope – last owner ran extra wire to switch since wiring harness had bad wire – went to pickNpull – harness hell to pull thru body frame & door so used saw because jaws of life cost too much – currently using key to open door – new problem is drivers window running slow – inspection due in two weeks so repairs on hold until afterwards –

If the live raw uncut is easier for you it is fine with me. I still don't understand you saying this guy lied to you when you found the missing relay. I probably wasn't listening or something. I would be willing to bet the owner before the auction buyer bought this car broke the fuse door and scampered off with the relay.

Hope for the best, plan for the worst. It's OK to live as a glass half empty guy. When things turn out better than expected you get a little bonus from that buffer you set aside to deal with the worst. If the worst comes to pass, not bankrupt, ride out the storm just fine because it's already in budget (or you are dead – in which case the I die unexpectedly plans come into action, that may involve insurances or investments etc.).
Double bonus, each time the worst does not come to pass you can take that little bonus and treat your wife / significant other or yourself. Happy times ensue.
I prefer this outlook and approach to life as opposed to the living life assuming everything is always going to go perfectly and behaving so.
IME life has a way of kicking us all in the genitalia every chance it gets. It sneaks up when least expected.
Life is sneaky…. sneaky like a BANSHEE :DD

I really liked the video. When I was young I made the mistake of believing what the guy before me said so I picked it up where he said he stopped. I wasted a lot of time before starting my troubleshooting and everything I checked pointed back to where I should have started my troubleshooting. Live and learn.

First. Check to see if anyone has been into the system. My momโ€™s Chevy had bad actuators All I ever use is a test light. A multimeter clip leads for any electrical. You can jump out any relay to trigger door locks especially

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars General Disarray says:

Eric you underestimate yourself by a long, long way. Not only do you have the same skills as the dealer, you far exceed their "skill set" and have a far more diverse set of skills and knowledge.
You not only do an outstanding job, every time, you bring us armchair/weekend mechanics along with you and share your knowledge. You are a fantastic mechanic, father, husband, employer and most of all human being!!!
Thanks for letting us share in the experience and teaching us some excellent mechanical and diagnostic skills

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tom Wilson says:

    Eric O.,
I have a 2007 Cadillac SRX 3.6l w/sport package. I am experiencing some type of parasitic drain. Every feature and function works on it. Has no DTCโ€™s. Starts with a dragging/draining pull on a fully charged battery (new). Can you offer any suggestions as to what might be causing this?
I have tried turning the key to on and allowing it to power up the circuits and after all the initial dings and dongs it has a continuous clicking/switching behind the dash (Driver side). Cycling key to start still has the dragging/draining start. Battery is completely drained if not driven in 2-3days?

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joe Bowling says:

Installed new trunk lock actuator now works fine except dash says trunk open upon start up 2015 impala computer need reset ?

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Mason says:

I am going to make a couple of the tests light like yours it is harder to work on the newer vehicles the 50 60 70 and 80 were much easier to work on

What do you call a thousand car salesman in the bottom of the ocean? A good start. I'm guessing he lied to you thinking you were a customer and were going to buy that POS. Old habits are hard to break.

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Billy Smith says:

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Motorhead Platt says:

So, a used car guy lies to you and you're surprised? I think BoatUS will let you rent an EPIRB.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Akersjon 278 says:

Is lying ingrained into the DNA of used car salesmen? Is it a case of the scorpion on the frogs back syndrome (it's in my nature)? Because if there is one thing I know about used car lots, they don't like to spend any more money then absolutely necessary on fixing cars before they sell them. So why lie to the mechanic that you have hired to fix a car when that means he then will spend time diagnosing unnecessarily things when he could just concentrate on the real problem…? I just don't get it.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars CryptoNoob says:

Hey Eric, if you had to pick one diagnostic scanner, which one would you choose that would be the most beneficial and most well rounded? I'm leaning towards the autel ms908bt. We don't have a shop, but we do always have problems with wiring, and we help friends and family. Thanks for the feedback in advance

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Larry Smith says:

my mom had this same car and all 4 of her door locks went out at the same time. i tested them and sure enough all four went out. changed the and everything worked as it should.
