Hi, the problem of switching inductive loads is, that it can produce sparks. The relaycontacts burn in after a while. and there's youre problem lady.

Yeah sure, I've seen this a couple of times, cheap china relays, where they save money on the contact plates. Stuff from china falls apart, except from the one thing from china that we all hope will fall appart.
Dang this could be why my power door locks do not work on my 87 celebrity eurosport hmm all i get is a clicking noise I have checked for power at the connectors but get nothing an when I hit the switch to lock or unlock all u hear is a clicking relay under the dash
Last time this happened to my friend we just used a pry bar and small jack to fit between the trunk and the frame.

Yes I like it, Because I found a bad relay only the larger 5 pin one in a International class 8 highway truck fuse box for the HVAC blower high setting, All the Lower speeds still worked with this relay bad, I do the same thing always pop them open to see the burnt contacts, It was clearly junk, Someone else replaced the blower motor then asked me to repair it. So yes relays can still click but my no longer handle higher amp loads๐๐

That's the repair that is genuinely good work, but the customer will always think you're screwing them over.
I do the same thing with broken parts: Tear them open to find out why!

Thanks Eric! I have a 2000 Honda Prelude which i bought Angel Eyes headlights for. The LEDs dont light up because of too low voltage. Have checked a few things here and there but never thought a relay could be the issue. I`ll have a look again and hopefully get them to work. Thanks again, and keep making these awesome videos!

Not to many people are willing to share this information, It's people like yourself and others that encourage me to step outside my comfort zone and work on my own cars.
I recently replaced rear drum brakes,rotors and wheel cylinders because they were no more.
I saved some money by doing the job myself and i feel accomplished at the same time.
i'm much safer on the road now because everything is new and replaced.
You probably won't see this but i feel like this is something you should know.

The only time I sell not obviously bad relays is with bad high draw motors that didnโt pop the fuse. Like cooling fans, fuel pumps and blower fans.
If you have a spare relay, changing the relay is a quick test to see if the relay circuit is doing its job.
I had 2 new Advance Auto fuel pump relays fail but when I payed up ($70) for an OEM FoMoCo it worked just fine.

I find this problem very common on momentary switching relays. The relay sounds like its working but there isn't enough magmatism to actually pull the contact down. I've taken them covers off the relay in the past & visually inspected the movement. A very good find & a reminder not to skip some of your basic tests. I've enjoyed a few of your videos & you don't half work on some old cack.
I would probably have done the shotgun method replacing the latch and the relay and the fuse knowing that some electricity had gone through. It would have been more expensive than what he did but still cheaper than going to a shop. Admittedly this guy is not only very highly skilled and intelligent —– but also honest. A rarity in this world. Thanks for the video.
I had a similar problem last week with the pressure sensor on my well. Sometimes the pressure would drop to near zero before the pump would turn on then everything would work normally for a few days. The last time it failed I was soaped up in the shower which convinced me to find the problem. Same problem, schmutz on the contacts.

The flight simulator that I used to work on was full of relays and this kind of issue was expected. It's hard to clean the contacts without damaging the plating even more, so we would usually just replace them as needed. Cars are built to a price so few of them will have a diode across the contacts to reduce the arcing and sparking, as seems to be the case on this car too. Nice find.

I experienced the same thing on a '13 impala. The horn would chirp with the fob when you hit the lock button. But the door actuators wouldn't pull down and latch the locks. Same thing with the door switches, they'd unlock but not latch. Ditto with the key in lock cylinder. A double turn to unlock would open all door locks, but not lock them when turned the opposite way.
The relay in question was located in the passenger front foot well kick panel. Located the relay and it was green and fuzzy on the sockets and inside the relay housing. Cleaned her up, replaced relay, all is as it should be. $8 cheap parts store relay took care of it.
New York must be the king of electrical problems in addition to rust buckets.

I have seen weak relays. Usually they burn the contacts, but I think a weak coil could cause one not to set tight and then burn the contacts.

I know many of you have replaced relays just because. It is very high on the parts cannon list along with fuses when an electrical problem comes along. However, have you ever proved it is the source of the voltage drop? I'll be honest I have replaced my share of relays because they simply do not work but rarely have I ever seen one that works but it is the source of the voltage drop. Tell me your story, what have you seen?
