In a previous video https://youtu.be/SZ-b0oowhyE I had a look at a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban that was towed in for a no start. It didn't take long to find out that the distributor gear was stripped out. I picked up a brand new one and it is time to get it fixed up. - Enjoy!

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sati Zelaya says:

That's exactly the same problem I'm having with 99 Tahoe, so I know what to check now

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian Mothershed says:

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J chevy says:

Omg man…..I have about 11 hrs over the course of 3 weeks trying to get my distributor back in, I'm almost ready to send this 5.7 vortec to the scrap yard. How the hell did you get this fired up so easy?!?!?!

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars KurtDog says:

201 thousand is just gettin broke in. I got a 97 Suburban. If I leave it sittin for a few days, it doesn't want to start? Fuel system losing pressure, fuel pump getting weak? Also doesn't want to restart very well after running it and engine is warmed up? Someone suggested spider harness? I don't know…

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tim Marx says:

some of your videos have helped me out of a couple jams, I was at my wits end but you seem to have the Chevy thing dialed in even though you're not a Chevy guy. Thanks for the assistance and keep up the great work. I appreciate it.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tim Kapeller says:

Great videos. Confusing part for me was questioning whether you would still have spark on other cylinders if you don't have it on 1 & 2 . I would assume no spark on any one cylinder, then no spark anywhere?? Not sure how thats works or what that problem would be?

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Josh Cardwell says:

I enjoyed your video on 99 suburban troubleshooting , i am having similar problems with mine, same 99 350. This gives me new things to check out on mine. Thanks

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Randal Martin says:

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Sisk says:

Hey new to your channel. Love the technique. Was just wondering what kind of scan tool that was that u were using to scan the vehicle with

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars crazeyspivey says:

Great video for sure. Lets see if you can look into your Magic Ball and diagnose my problem: Same rig…..1999 Suburban with the 350 / 5.7L. 160,000 miles, and almost mint condition (garage puppy). The AC was not working this year, so she was parked in the garage all summer, and I have not started her in about 3 months. Always started and idled perfect, no issues. Today all she would do is crank and crank, and no hint of any fire at the plugs, but a bit of a "burping" noise after I release the key and the cranking stops…….I guess some cylinder compression getting released. But, if it is a bad distributor as was in your video, how could this happen just by sitting for a few months? I will begin the testing as you did, and hope to find the problem. Just seems real strange.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Saul Rodriguez says:

Thanks for these videos man been trying to figure out why my friends suburban was doing the same exact crank I start and binds up while cranking

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gardeners' Farmacy says:

Is it possible, that by starting with prayer. Hand turning crank with ratchet. I pulled dist. Other distributor dropped All way in. I saw it was one of so I gently picked up and backed up one tooth. It once again dropped in fully.
    I tightened it.
Battery on trickle to make sure back to good. I'll pray all night too. Just need it to crank and have oil pressure.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hawk 1966 says:

Love those old car power steering "no toucha da ground!" is what we called it. Chevys were bad, Fords a little worse and those old Chrysler power steering pumps were so crazy you could drive with your tongue. Steering was a suggestion the car would take under advisement. I had a 73 (maybe earlier) Plymouth Fury wagon. Bought it jacked up on air shocks and riding on Keystone rims (way snazzier than the more popular Crager). Wagon was a 9-passenger junker. It pulled to the left HARD unless you stood on the brakes then it pulled HARD to the right. If you knew the car you could drive twisty curved roads no hands. . . Killed more garbage cans than I'm willing to admit 🤣

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JD Moffat says:

394k miles just swapped out original distributor on my 94 Burban, runs like new, almost.

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Curtis Brown says:

Great video….How did u set the distributor point to cylinder 1? And distributor pic to show

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daniel Campbell says:

The video was insightful very much so but my issue is with a 98 z71 5.7. It's like there's to much compression to turn the motor over and I know it's TDC and my distributor is set right. One minute it turns over the next it won't. I'm lost can you help out? Thanks.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Burning Gears Diesel and Auto Repair says:

No distributor wrench LOL. That gear is so common. I know I'm late as all get out. But enjoy your videos.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ronny Robinson says:

Do you suppose to hear the fuel pump every time you turn the key on

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Trace Johnson says:

My 1990 chevy 5.7 has fuel and spark but will not start. It will turn over fine.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Trace Johnson says:

1990 chevy 5.7 gets spark and fuel but just turns over.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Real life says:

It’s a lost art manual diagnostic. Like the old school art of a welding the distributor weights at full advance and setting timing between 32 and 38 degrees advance total timing . for some time travel at warp speed .

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Patre Doski says:

My old 93 K1500 went 305,000 before the distributor needed this. Yep just quit running while going down the road a couple times.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars FAUSTO GONZALEZ says:

    Chevy Thunder 🤣

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Black Heartz Outlaw says:

I believe I either have a bad Distributor cap or a shredded distributor shaft in gear is turning over but not starting it could be the fuel filter or pump I heard it turn on this morning I don't believe it's the relay it may be just a cap a couple of days ago I was getting flutters in the engine so I believe it's the cap thanks for the video I seen another video you made I just didn't subscribe I can't remember what I was looking at but you had got it running you had a cold you was under the weather do you remember???

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Danny Bowen says:

0 is top dead centre for that truck

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Sthormes says:

I recently changed my distributor 2001 Chevy express van I learned a new trick I took a compression tester you some random rubber hose Connect hose to compression tester Started the truck from inside looking down upon the distributor I saw distributor one on compression. hope this helps sumbody. You could feel compression and see distributor on number one.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ronnie Hall says:

Enjoyed. I have a 1992 k1500 Chevy truck. 5.7 350 engine. Truck just quit starting. I cam prime it and drive it anywhere. The minute you turn it off, no start. New fuel pump installed a year ago. Just asking 4 suggestions. Thank you, Ronnie

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fokkerd3red says:

I really enjoy your videos, can learn a lot from your troubleshooting.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paublus Americanus AMERICANUS says:

You said its been 4 years since you had one of these. Depends how far he drives every day how long this big gas sucker lasts. My newer car will outrun this truck and get maybe 3 times the gas mileage. Not bragging here just these old jobbies drink the gas.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sam Rugtiv says:

    Well done eria. Sam

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Doug Kubash says:

I was watching one of those car shows on TV and they didn't know to bring up number one on compression to drop the distributor in on a small block Chevy. Works on other makes also. lol One of my kids has my old '99 Yukon with a 5.7 and it has 340k plus miles on it and it's still running pretty good.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars YeskaSmoke says:

My tahoe has the same issue, changed everything except distributor so this sounds about right. Even has the loose steering.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dwayne Young says:

Dude is the “ Truck Whisperer”

    Hats off to you sir.

Time for a Seafoam commercial Eric!!!!

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars CASTLEDOME KNIVES says:

Folks without a scan tool to set the final timing can use the hole in distributor CAP to set timing right on the money… There are a few videos on YouTube that will explain my comment

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jose Burgos says:

Nice video and straight to the point. I got a 1999 Suburban with the 5.7L engine with a crank but won't start. It kind of died in the driveway. I got sparks on 1st and 2nd spark as you did. I also got the 50-60 psi on the fuel pump. I have changed the crank and cam sensor and nothing. At first I was changing the front sensor, the one in the front of the engine a couple of times and it was working but then nothing. I even changed the fuel pump just in case. Tomorrow, I am going to change the spark plugs but I don't think that might be the problem. I got good engine compression and the battery charge is super. Can someone you or someone give me any advice on where I should be looking/checking? BTW, I changed the relays as well. Now, because I am doing this with no help, I can't hear the new fuel pump making the noise as it were working. Now, the old one was I was able to hear the noise. Please, some guidance is appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jose

Great video, very informative, liked your process to determine the problem. Thank you

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars YouTube305 says:

88-99 GM trucks were the best. All it took was a new distributor and it started right up and idled perfectly again. They can’t seem to make any truck that good anymore.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Wyatt Weeks says:

My 97 suburban is having the same issue crank no start and sounds the same and you've given me some more stuff to look at thank you man and wish me luck!

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ron dawson says:
