Put a pair of steps like those on my Ranger the summer I got it. MUCH cheaper than the OE running boards, and the Mrs was very happy I did. She's vertically challenged.
The torque spec was easy, just one sixty year old oo-arghhh with a half inch ratchet.
You don't get much on a base pick-up, even @ 40k. Want some of the goodies? You spending at least 70. Fully loaded? Over 90.
I've always wondered – why put side steps on a high clearance truck cos it just reduces the clearance.

Great channel! I bought a 2013 Dodge Ram. The dealer wanted over $800 to put running boards on. I got a pair for $200 on the web and installed myself. Not a lot of fun in the spring in the NW but saved. Now the truck needs exhaust manifold bolts replaced. That I cannot do myself.

i installed side steps in my driveway on the Dakota 05 i used to have. It sucks to crawl under to install those, specially when the frame is crusty.

Frame mount steps are definitely better. They hold the cab up when the cab mounts rot out.

I have a 2014 Silverado that had the factory steps put on by the dealer. I have 5 years and 88000 miles with out any problems. I am 6'1 and weigh 285, no crinkles yet.
Chevy quality has gone down. The fenders on the box like to rust out early.

Ok I purchased a new 2014 Silverado 1500 and it was a tank. We pulled a 9000 lb Surveyor 35 foot all over these united states with the ecotech 5.3 and it was a beast. Never broke at all and we traded it at 60000 miles and bought the duramax that has also never left me stranded. Had a 1999 2500 with 320000 on the clock and never had to do and engine or tranny rebuild. Dad had an old 79 custom deluxe that the speedometer quit on after 2 times over a 100000 and we drove it for years after. I know there are lemons in all brands but I have never bought a junk Chevy. Your still my hero on mechanics but on your opinions of Chivy's I would agree with you or we would both be wrong 😉

Those running boards will soon be returning to nature in the form of iron oxide. I've seen hundreds of those just completely rotted away – from the inside.
Yeah, you'd think they'd include the damn things for $50 LARGE! Probably just as well, because if they did, they'd be half moons in 3 years, and fold in half when your big buddy steps on on it. I'd imagine that would be a good hit to the knee … 😀
I put a set of Westins on my Silverado back when it was new. That set has been sitting in my yard for 2 years now, after some jackalope sideswiped me in the city. No rust at all on them – real stainless. The hardware however is a different story.
Same with my Corsa exhaust – stainless pipe, with chinese steel hardware. Par for the 21st Century course!!
I weigh 160 lbs. as I walk out the door, and mine flex and bend like crazy with my weight on them. Built like beer cans, these trucks today!!

A 2015 with broken front end parts, it's either a junk built ride, or he went airborne to break the springs. I saw a wreck once where a blazer hit some slush and got pulled in and ended up going through a ditch, and went about a foot in the air and when it landed, it broke the front ball joints, and the springs. I would have fixed all the broken stuff before paying for this junky looking kit. Love your videos, God bless you and the family.
I hope the owner went the extra expense and got the good stainless side steps. I installed a set a few years ago that wasn't stainless and I regretted it within just a few months.
For the money spent on the truck he should have spent a bit more money on this unit. Even the shady ladies won't fall for this setup. Could've had stainless attached to the Swiss but didn't. Kids today..
Those things don't last long around here, especially the rocker/body panel mounted nerf bars.. I you HAVE to have those steppers, spring for the 1's that mount to the frame. ( some brands do both )

the factory ones bolt on like that never seen one broke off, we replace alot of the factory boards for chrome corrosion under warranty though

Those new body style trucks are super prone to NVH issues. I advise against the frame running boards because I have in one case seen them cause a small vibration. The vibration was able to travel through the step brackets to the body mounts and you would feel a vibration in the floor at certain highway speeds. Call me crazy but it went away after removing them.
I agree about the body mount looks weak. Rather have the fram mount and the black tube looking. But thats just my preference.
