A state inspection on this 2007 Chrysler Town and Country revealed that the horn does not work. Simple right? Well we better have a closer look.

You should've check resistance between the connector on the underside of the power module to the front control module while it's unplugged. That would've completely narrowed down and proved which it was

@South Main Auto,,, I'll be attempting this very repair on a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan, no horn, diagnosed TIPM replacement. TY for helping me have the confidence to attempt it myself 🙂

You really have what I call "patience of the saints" as well as obvious compassion for the owner of that Chrysler minivan…you put yourself in the owner's place. I just got through trying to help my sister who turns 71 this week with her 2006 Chrysler Town and Country (I'm 68 by the way). I was trying to get her windshield washer working and I determined that it goes through the front control module. She also has no radio sound anymore. Her decision to me was to leave the spray bottle of washer fluid between the 2 front seats and drive without a radio. She does not want to spend anymore money on this 2006 vehicle. It is really disappointing that Chrysler continues to have so many problems with the TIPM and yet they don't seem to care about it. God bless you my friend.

First thing I do if I buy one of these. Pull every damn electrical connector. Then fill them with Dielectric grease..even the connectors on the bottom of the fuse box…I don't want these issues….

I guess you have never worked on a Lucas wiring system if you think Chrysler is bad

I've watched several of your videos they're pretty good it amazes me that the American Consumer puts up with the electrical junk that these car manufacturers can't perfect it's pretty bad and engineering is ridiculously complicated and practically impossible to work on unless your tear most of the car part too bad this is what it's come to I would never buy any of this new stuff.

Eric O , you must go crazy with how many electrical issues these Chryslers have with their TIPM. That's mostly what I see you replace or repair on these Chryslers. I see the odd other things with Chryslers but the vast majority of Chrysler issues seem to be with the ground or TIPM, at least 60% of the time and mostly with Chrysler vehicles from 2004 to 2008. It must drive you nuts!

Meow that's what I call a damn good diagnostic

I'm dealing with a PCM issue on a '99 intrepid right now. Because they potted it with thickened silicone gorilla snot and they didn't put any available test points on the circuit card, its virtually impossible to determine if the problem is in the wiring harness connector ( the whole harness of which is deemed to be a single part with the power distribution center [PDC]) or in the PCM, so, constructively, the module and its wiring harness (and the PDC if its on the same harness) should be considered ONE part. Not only is this wiring harness not available new from the dealer anymore, but its about 10 hours to change out the harness. You quite literally have to have a duplicate car there to plug the module into to be able to determine whether its the harness/connector or the module (and if the module needs to be programmed, like with the SKIM code or mileage/VIN they you have further overwhelming complications). In spite of all this insanity I still do like Chrysler products. I could definitely see the benefit of preventative spraying all their electrical connections with some sort of corrosion prevention dressing BEFORE things start going haywire (and repeating the process every year or two throughout the life of the car).

What did the owner decide to do Eric?

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ruben Garcia says:

    Front distribution looks like

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gary Robinson says:

Could you alsocheck continuity through that front control module ??? Maybe add that as another step ? Or to eliminate a step ? I believe it was pins 10 and 17 .. to see if you have a good connection through it ??

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Pete Mago says:

I have a GC 2004 and the horn is a two tone super loud one, nothing like the horn in this video.

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Donna Wyman says:

Thank you, I called my mechanic, he gave me an estimate $1200! I can't get a sticker, so I will drive my van for 5 weeks and park it, it was given to me, it's my only transportation so I am more or less house bound for the winter. I have an income of $510 a month & am disabled, I hate Chrysler right now, this van is more rust than good metal!

I just got a 06 grand caravan that the turn signals didn't work I found that 7 wire that got cut and grounded by the frame as it goes in to the fender well So if anyone is having any issues I would check that as well

Same problem I connected a wire to the one he found and bypassed right to the relay. Meant had a wire inside the elec box

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars BRIAN VELTRI says:

I know  a lot of your viewers are mechanically inclined, but for us beginners can you go in a little more depth on some things. example in the beginning of the video you checked for power on both sides of the fuse then you said its ok. can you explain how and why that's ok

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Frangie W says:

You are good…very good !I actually learned something, now I don't feel so bad, I'm always talking to myself thru these things….So I guess I'm not the only one ….however you have an audience your trying to teach….

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mayer I says:

Great video, but wheres the horn located?

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ken Attwood says:

Hi, I live here in the UK and my friend has a Chrysler grand voyager 2008 model. His indicators have stopped working and despite my best efforts we cannot get the fault located and all the garages here just won't look at it because we can't locate a wiring diagram from anywhere, including Jeep in Italy. The other thing we have found is that there is no internal wring /fuse board in the cabin. any help would be greatly appreciated. Love watching you on Youtube.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gregory Kellerman says:

I've been watching your videos for a while, I have an '05 Grand Caravan and the horn stopped working. Much sadness, especially since it's winter here in central Illinois.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tarentum_Tech says:

Isn't optical horn when you flash your lights at someone?

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars hatfez says:

I've had many Chrysler mini vans (6), never had an issue with the PCM, TIPM, just bad grounds.
The rust belt may be a factor.
    Just sayin…

Spray the hell out of the white (or green) powdery stuff with Contact Cleaner 'till it runs clear.
Then, if the ground is good, spray silicone over the whole under side of the box and button her up!

As an owner of a Dodge Ram I have to agree that Chrysler is missing the boat on engineering. My Ram 2500 is one piece of crap with similar issues.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars SirDeanosity says:

Got the horn in my 2004 DGC working. Note: the relay pin numbers are next to the relay pins and the FCM pin numbers are on the FCM connector. Also the schematic provided by Eric Os. vid match my van. I verified continuity from the horn button at FCM – 17 to battery negative, checked and found FCM – 10 to horn relay 85 OPEN, verified +12V at horn relay pins 86 & 30, then paper clip jumpered horn relay pins 30 & 87 and the horn honked. Given the design of the the power module and FCM my solution was to jumper FCM – 10 socket to horn relay – 85 with a piece of 24 AWG solid wire. I inserted the wire into the FCM – 10 socket and dressed the wire so as to allow the wire to exit the weather seal around the FCM plug body and then put the other end of the wire into horn relay pin 85 socket, and put the relay back in. Tooot! via steering wheel. I chose to not wire FCM – 10 to 17 as the horn button my not last too long driving a relay directly as it lacks the inductive suppression diode provided by the output at FCM – 10. Thank you Eric for your service!

Ok. First of all, I am gonna try and watch this again even though I know my prob is the Clockspring. 2ndly I love to learn and have learned more about my 99 T&C in last few weeks than I have in years upon years and enjoy most of the YT vids. Now, 3rdly. I have to ask a serious but non-applicable to this vid(mostly) question and do not mean to sound obtuse but man you sound just like Beetlejuice. I got in a trance trying to figure where I knew that voice from. Sorry but I really had to and be proud of it, I think it is cool. The more the video progressed, the more I caught myself smiling Thx.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jose Vidrio says:

I have watched much of your videos and they have helped alot. I have a 2005 town&country I bought it w/127k miles. It now has 177k miles. I haven't changed the transmission. Is it risky to change and what oil do I use? Thanks

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ablackformula says:

when the horn button doesn't work, try the key fob panic button. if the vehicle's alarm can sound the horn, you can mark off the front control module, relay load side, etc as being functional. may help cut down which portion of the circuit needs diagnosing!

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Maineac Life says:

Thank you so much for making this vid. with your help was able to fix horn fast. Did not care about other functions honking the horn so i just pulled out ipm , unclipped and removed bottom cover, soldered wire from pin 19 to ground side of relay coil socket, reinstall, done. thanks again.
