My old boss had an R34 Skyline that destroyed the left rear bearing within 12 months of being replaced.

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars KUNTRY HD says:

I had a 2009 ford exploder an i had to replace all 4 hub bearings. Mine were not that bad. but i did have a nast grinding sound

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Trevor Moses says:

Ray I think you just saved someone's life with that diagnosis. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mykl Langridge says:

Well, at least it is there in the shop already. Compared to some I've seen on JustRolledIn, that is in good condition…

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kyle C says:

what tires are those my goodness

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark C. says:

My question is, who put those new tires on this rig without noticing that?

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeremiah Bullfrog says:

The thing that gets me is that those are brand new tires and the tire shop never said a word about the busted bearing???

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars F Huber says:

I want to find your twin in Texas….

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dylan McNerney says:

    Wow

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daydricoldsmith says:

I watched the full length one and then seen this and thought that it came back and that new bearing was destroyed.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Faulkner says:

I flew down to Orlando to fix my sister's Passat (timing belt and oil cooler) and she has a 2004 sonata and the wheel bearings were singing. I took the knuckle off the worst side and carried it to shops around Apopka. They wouldn't touch it. Found one shop and he took it right in and was able to get the bearing sleeve out and pressed new hub and bearing in and didn't grape me on the price. I see why mechanics don't want to fool with bearings, that snap ring can be a pill. But both front bearings are changed and my sister is happy. Now to get that timing belt on when it comes in the mail. ๐Ÿ™‚

Really? 2, 15 second ads for a minute and a half video?

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kentucky Ranger says:

Shame on the tire shop! For knowingly putting a new set of tires on that car, and not bringing that bad wheel bearing to the owners attention…

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John LaCroix says:

WOW incredible very interesting super kool ,1st class great info.,, AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot ,keep up the great work.

Fortunately I havenโ€™t been on tools for many years but I did do plenty of years in a spare parts shop. I recall one guy demanding a refund on 2 brake pads because he only could fit one on each side of the car. After about 2 hours of explaining, diagrams, drawings, and showing him several detailed videos from suppliers and YouTube, of his exact car model, he decided that a 50% brake job was good enough and we could keep the other 2 pads.

I also had a guy come in and buy a set of wheel bearings for his car. Cup and cone arrangements. I asked if he was good for grease, and a tool to remove the seal and yep, he was and intended to reuse both. Ran down everything with him like cleaning the bearings, how to properly pack them, and how to remove the old cups, blah blah blah and 2 hours later heโ€™s back and after my scalp as they donโ€™t fit. Dude itโ€™s one of the most popular cars we sell parts for. If they donโ€™t fit, youโ€™ve either given us wrong info or youโ€™re driving the wrong car. Nope and nope, has a picture of the vin plate, yep itโ€™s all good. So we run down again what to do, how to remove everything, clean repack, tension etc etc. and off he goes. A few hours later heโ€™s back. โ€˜I got it sorted out, youโ€™re not meant to use the bearing holdersโ€™. WTF? These, he says, throwing the 4 cups down on the counter. You donโ€™t use these. Ah, yes, you do, theyโ€™re matched to the bearings. You remove the old ones like we told you, then put the new ones in. โ€˜Nah, I rang a mechanic and he said thatโ€™s bullshit, and you should have sold me just the bearings, not the holdersโ€™ Whatโ€™s the mechanics number? Oh, heโ€™s a mate. Ok. Whatโ€™s his number? Why? Well, heโ€™s going to be responsible. Ohโ€ฆ So I ring the manufacture. Put him on the phone with the donkey and he is told straight up heโ€™s fucked up, and was emailed a bunch of info on how to do it right, nah mate itโ€™s done, itโ€™s fine. One waiver is sent over the fax which he signs, I copy, and keep on file. I want to say 3 weeks later heโ€™s back and out for blood because a bearing failed, he lost the front wheel and totalled the car out.

I have never sighed a sigh of relief soooo deeply before.

Ford quality is job none… What a joke for a car company.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars T Cp says:

I had to take my car to 3 shops to get them to replace my wheel bearings. Told them all I think I have bad bearings due to the noise being very easily hearable and vibrations at speed.

First shop said bearings were fine, and the manager HERSELF (…) told me that bad bearings wouldn't cause those problems, so they did an alignment (without asking me ) told me I likely had a problem with my tires (with less than 1,500 miles on them…) after I told them the alignment didn't fix the noise/vibration.

Other shop told me tires looked fine, likely had an alignment issue…

Last shop is probably the only one that actually listened to my problem and took it out for a test drive / even put it on a lift. They replaced the front bearings, and suddenly the noise and vibration are gone! Crazy how that works. They are the only ones I even remotely trust, they were just booked out so long on appointments and I was hoping to get it fixed sooner, but ended up having to wait anyway due to the idiots that let me down along the way. Would have done it myself if I had the tools/time/confidence to do press ins.

Incompetence or malace or probably both, it is disgusting and exactly why mechanics have such a bad reputation. Glad there is at least one around here I can kind of trust.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars orson wells says:

Whoever mounted those brand new tires all the way round on that should be held responsible. No way they could not have noticed that.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Veikra says:

    Dont worry, it's mint

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars huzudra says:

I've had these in the shop so bad the wheel locks up driving into the bay and the roller bearings that are left come out square.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ipcam Talk says:

    Love the Crossclimate 2 tires!.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shawn Watkins says:

Hmm wish you did not call the original post rollover recall..it was the previous gen of the explorer prior to the one you were working on..that had the Firestone tire and roll over issues. Still love your work.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Greg Rice says:

You've got a unique way entertaining and I'd like to thank you for broadening my perspective on code troubleshooting and how you "check the data" before changing parts. Totally makes sense and as an amateur I find satisfaction in fixing things myself before going to a shop. Overall you make the entire process of anything automotive fun and oddly satisfying when it's finished. Keep it up and thanks!

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Louis Harris says:

I am a fellow tech and the only reason I put a dislike on this video is because you showed the same vehicle and the repair this morning pretty cheesey Ray. Still like your videos but I can't in good conscience like this one

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ivan Olsen says:

    Algorithm boost!

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Igor D says:

Tires looks pretty new. Maybe the tire shop missed bad wheel bearings ? Or the customer ignored their findings

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John T. says:

For all those saying they watched it this morning, I watched it yesterday. ๐Ÿ˜‹

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Badazz says:

I had one today on an 04 Chevy truck it was so sloppy I coasted it into the shop zero test drive customer complained of a grinding noise and roaring at high speed it was just as bad as this one if you hear roaring that gets louder the faster you go and it drives weird get it inspected by a trusted professional it's super inexpensive compared to a life

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Heeby Jeebies says:

A mechanic who takes pride in their work is one who also fixes the industry.
    Well done, Ray.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bill Kunert says:

The people who sold those tires should have caught that.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Vincent Gotter says:

Yes right I believe it I watched your video this morning I believe it

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Wilbur Roth says:

Wow, a wibbly wobbly type of wheel, lol.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Justinian Yi says:

Hey Ray has your shop been extra busy lately? I just dropped my car off for service at a Virginia dealership this morning, at 6:45 AM. And by the time my Uber picked me up, the service lane line was 15 cars long and overflowing into the street.

Also saw other repair shops fully booked lately. Reminds me of last yearโ€™s auto repair surge.

    Just curious ๐Ÿ˜ณ

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mary Mulrooney says:

How about the other rear wheel?

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hugh Jass says:

how did they not see this when they installed the new tires?

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gregg Purviance says:

Could be the tire guy said back driver wb, & the customer messed up.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jason Roberts says:

Shouldn't whomever put those tires on caught the bearing was going bad? It didn't get that bad overnight.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Frank Sattler says:

I go to my mechanic for say, an oil change. I always ask them to check things out while the vehicle is on the lift.
Rare that they come to me and say anything is wrong.
One time they did. The car needed a rear wheel bearing and when they fixed the rear wheel bearing something else was wrong related to the emergency brake. Hydraulic cylinder, I think?
So, yeah, it pays to have the car checked out.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fjord Driver says:

That's a weird looking tire tread. It kind of creeps me out. And why haven't they settled on just a half dozen tread patterns by now? I mean do we really need "new" tread designs? Haven't they figured it out by now what works best? I know, it's all about the Benjamins. Perhaps a new square or octagonal tire, or maybe a triangular tire. Come on Goodyear, be a trendsetter.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars swoopulater says:

darnit ray, ya made me look LUL ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹

  52. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars SolarGarage says:

Excellent recap and full length video.

  53. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jimmy S says:

Thats nothing. I had Ford F150 with the bearing completely gone. The ball joint stud cut the rim in half. I had to drive it into the bay with half a rim LOL. It also demolished the 4×4 vacuum actuator. The owner does their own work supposedly. Just waiting for a video that someone installed the pads with the backing plate towards the rotor and complaining about grinding noises.

  54. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars FireoftheGreeks says:

When you said Explorer I automatically said rear wheel bearing LOL.

  55. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Number 6. says:

I will like to see a full length version.

  56. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Bowsher says:

By the way. I've been researching tires for a long time and those are some of the best for dry grip, wet grip, and snow and ice grip. When my tires are due, those are the ones I'm getting.

  57. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Job38 Four says:

My tip for the day is, you dont need a stethoscope to know that has a bad bearing…๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฉ

  58. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gord Snarr says:

Reminds me of a 5-ton truck that came in once… guy wanted a tune-up it wouldn't do the speed limit with a full load. Went to test drive it and it had no brakes!! Was an interesting day…
    Thanx for your videos Ray!

  59. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Thomas Straulina says:

My wheel wiggle wiggles and folds

  60. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DavidKupy says:

Ray, you think you could jog across the state to Titusville and troubleshoot that Artemis 1 vehicle?

  61. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars OldTooly says:

Those brand new expensive Cross Climate Michelin tires but no one noticed that bearing wear? Who are these people owning and working on these cars?

  62. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kevin Davis says:

And as you said on the video about this vehicle the tire shop should not have let this vehicle go without the repair
    That's bad business

  63. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JAMES WUERTELE says:

Didnโ€™t know they make those exploders those years in 4×2?! Weird

  69. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Knight Wizaed says:

Went right to the video after, thank you

  70. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars scrappin big says:

Whoever worked on it prior left the e-brake shoes and hardware off.

  75. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Exalted Emperor Woof Woof of the Woofmourne Empire says:

Customer is confused with front and rear.

  76. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rickie Wilkerson says:

That was a mean snap ring ๐Ÿ˜‚ . If you have never tried this put the Bearing in the freezer until you are ready to press it in won't be so hard to do.

  77. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars CleanteamofNY says:

Those are new tires, why didn't the installers say something? (I own the same tires).

  78. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Don Rossco Joe says:

In customer service: "the customer always knows best" but in the case of motor mechanics I've found the opposite to be true.

  79. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert allen Fontenot says:

I watched this one this morning! I always watch Ray!

  80. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Draw4Reel says:

That car is not safe Ray. Good for pointing it out๐Ÿ‘

  81. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars REDBIRD95 says:

Watched the full vid on my lunch break at work. Gives new meaning to the term: "Drive it until the wheels fall off" How can one NOT notice that๐Ÿ˜ฒ Don't wait until it's TOO late and you end up in the rhubarb in the ditch or crash into another vehicle. Hell, I took my truck for a little rip on the weekend and noticed that I had a bad front left rotor. Went today to the parts store and bought new rotors and pads + some Permatex caliper slider lube. Up here in the rust belt (Eastern Ontario) salt is not kind to metal and very hard on brake rotorsโ˜น

  82. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Duzan says:

    Well that's scary.

  83. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Isaac Kellerman says:

They call them exploders because their tires used to explode on the highway

  84. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Wolphypwi says:

  87. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars nortious maximus says:

just think, if there was a yearly safety inspection, this kind of stuff, wouldn't get anywhere near that far.

  88. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars mark adams says:

Looks like the tire is just out of balance. No need for a bearing just a few tire weights.๐Ÿ˜ต

  89. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nicholas R says:

Those rears are a work out!!! Enjoy.

  90. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars EastTexas Rancher says:

Just curious. What was that sticking out of the gas tank and why?

  91. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Curtis Hill says:

I guess that rear steering needs some adjustment ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚ saw you this morning thanks for the video ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ฏ

  92. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nathan says:

I cannot believe someone replaced the tire and sent back out on the road un that condition.

  93. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joe Renevitz says:

those tires look almost new. they never noticed when installing them? it didnt just happen overnight

  94. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Radio Rescue says:

Saw the full video. You're lucky the wheel didn't fall off on the test drive.

  95. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Don Goff says:

    Deja Vu'

  96. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matt Fissell says:

Everything is fine. All is good. Just shoot some brake clean at it and it will be even better. Also, I'm sad that we didn't get to hear how bad the bearing was through the stethoscope, I bet it sounded like, "doodly doo, scrunch, doodly doo, scrunch".
