Why do american manufacturers build their cars in this insane way. The only way to persuade them to change, would be if the american public would start buying european cars instead

You know when you don't have a good connection to your battery your alternator usually goes out the alternator and the battery work together

Why don’t you use a fan to cool the engine area a little quicker ? I have a old box fan that I found in a dumpster,it had a broken grill. I lay it on the floor with a couple 2+4 s. Under it. 10 minutes an the car is cool enough to work on

I was a mechanic in the 70's and remember when there was so much room around the engine under the hood that you could practically sit in there haha! Even a big block. Everything was accessible and pretty easy to change out. Whole different ball game now. But you make it fun to watch. I binge-watch your videos. Way more interesting than TV programming! Thanks for what you do.

Wish I could unlock those plugs from 18 inches away with a pry bar!! Lol, guess I'm not that talented…😉😉😉

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sam Jones says:

I believe, if you would ever read the manuals, you might find that, that alternator is removed through the tire well.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars PlayaOfGames says:

the downside to the newer modols of these grand caravans or in this instance chryslers copy of it for some reason they made the engine compartment so jam packed idk why they did that i mean my 2009 dodge grand caravan has alot of room in the engine compartment compared to my 2012 and whats werid is i swear they fliped the engine in these later models because the alternator is on top easy access on my 2009 while the 2012 and up seem to have as if it was flipped upside down which is show right here lol

So what is it? Ray you say that everytime you wash a engine off. Is it that you can?, or you shouldn't? I even see you wash the battery off?

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JBFPV says:

What is this world coming to? You have to remove radiator hoses and spill coolant to change the alternater…smh

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hans Grubber says:

    Too-Roo-Roo-Roo! 😀

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Lastoria says:

Always put a piece of cardboard behind the radiator to protect it from everything. Could save hundreds of dollars.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Zepplin76 says:

Reeeee, you got negative terminal molecules on the positive terminal post during cleaning. Battery will hold less charge.. LoL.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars rtel123 says:

my 95 caravan would let you take out the alternator in 5 minutes with one wrench. Nothing in its way. Progress!
And I only took it out to get at the valve cover. It has not died yet!

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bobby Benn says:

Almost as changing one in a 08 Honda odyssey. I finished with a lot of cuts and bruises. Great job, enjoy watching good clean channels. Keep up the good work. God bless

    Ants won't work?

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Raucina says:

Don't buy any caravans after 2010 and the 3.3 perfect engine. 3.6 is a toxic engine.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Raucina says:

On the 3.3 and 3.8 engine you could swap alternators with a 1/4" socket set in 30 minutes, nothing to take off or drain. This engine is crap with its bad rocker arms and lack of access.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stephen Jump says:

Whatever happened to the one wrench needed for alternator removal, now they cram everything they can possibly think of putting in the way so you have to remove more stuff then ever before, Chrysler minivans are a pain in the butt to work on from the start,

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tom FT says:

You should have checked youtube for changing out the alternator. I'm 80+ and just did mine, on a 2014 town & country from the bottom right wheel well, No draining fluids or removing hoses. About 40-45 minutes,

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jon Clark says:

    "Getting Chryslered " 😆😆

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Squires says:

Maybe one day, some bright bulb will come up with the idea of mounting the alternator on top of the engine. Where it’s easier to get to. Then some other bright bulb will come up with the idea of using a proprietary “security” screw to hold it there. Gain some, lose some. 🤣

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Squires says:

What to do when the auxiliary electrons are too big to fit in the battery? Get two sources of auxiliary electrons for more pressure! 😆

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Samuel Pankonien says:

I’ve asked like 10 times where you got your battery terminal clearners

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Don W says:

I so miss the days when you could open the hood, see the ground and all of the typical wearout parts on cars…starter alternator etc. Whoever at GM decided to put the alternators right up on top were good engineers. Nowadays you cant even see the ground when you open the hood on most newer cars. You spend more time taking crap off to get to the part then R&R the part itself it seems.
As always, a great video Ray…that clock in it is kinda purty:-)

All engineers should be make to work a mechanics for a couple of ears before they ever get to attempt to design anything mechanical.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gerben Broeksema says:

Hello Ray, why didn't unscrew the a/c pump and get it out of the way and then get the alternator out that way. It seems to me a lot faster and you don't have to pull the radiator out and bleed the system. I used to be a mechanic so iknow what i am talking about.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DADDY -O says:

I had an old 57 Chevy that I could sit inside the engine compartment while changing plugs and that was after I put a big bad ass 8 into it. Those were the days. Takes me half an hour just to check all the fluid levels in my 2018 HUNDAI. Warranty almost done for the most of it, so then I get to crawl around underneath it to do my own maintenance, I sure do miss that. Keep taking my tools out and cleaning them all up. Keep up the awesome work Rainman.
