There's only a few things that if I'm repairing automatically get new parts and that's one of them sorry I do not install junkyard parts especially we're bearings… No matter if they're OEM

Just like you refuse to reuse cotter pins I don't put on bad wheel bearings! Have fun with that one.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars CONRAD WILEY says:

Probably Could uh Gone Couple uh Hundred More Miles or Till Wheel Flew Off Killed a Pedestrian & Crashed Into a Ditch.. *

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Scott Marshall says:

Aww… a little WD-40 and they've got another 25k left in em. i suppose if you really want to head off the wheel running over a pedestrian thing, you could change em now. Just be sure not to change the pads just 'cause they're worn a little 'funny'….

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Thomas Daum says:

Yep , just started making noise !…….

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richie Smith says:

    Wobbly bits

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Hutcheson says:

Sounds like my knees. There is more lateral movement than I have as well.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars UncleMarks DIY Automotive Fix it channel says:

Worst wheel bearing I have ever seen! It just started? Or the customer just starting listening to the radio at a lower level and then noticed this?

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Clare Ravenwood says:

Any noise in a customer's car "just started"', like 6 months ago but the radio won't hide it any more.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Darin Barfield says:

I think the 2nd should be good for another month or two🤟🏽

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Henry Duke says:

You forgot to mention how many miles is on that vehicle I guaranteed you probably had 300,000-plus

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andrew Fernie says:

Either grease it or turn the radio up.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Graham Monk says:

My best friend learned well from his dad, he could fix most things, his dad could fix just about *anything*. His brother? Not so much. Dad had towed the brother home on several occasions. In this particular case, dad is going off on the brother, "John, you're going down the road, and you hear a funny noise from the engine, what do you do?" The brother's response, completely seriously, "I turn up the radio" Kinda sums it for some people.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TheCaperfish says:

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Stuart says:

Remember, that could be a car passing you going 75 mph

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars jr neff says:

if you showed the customer that and they said no dont have the money etc to fix would you back it out and park it . this same car is coming at us on the road at 60mph how to tell some one to park it. at the same time same person at a bar a few drinks ask them let me call you a cab or a friend. its going to end the same way i bet

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Free says:

My '03 Sonoma 2wd has always had iffy front bearing issues, but I was maybe 25,000 miles on one set when at 70 on the highway I felt it drag for a moment and suddenly jerk left… and then it was fine. I knew what happened though, got to a shop as quickly as possible. Brakes pulsed slightly after that and there was a barely perceptible rumble, anyone else probably would have stopped driving it.

Shop test drove it briefly before working on it and thought it would be fine. Just around the block, nothing serious.
And then they almost bent a set of 50 ton press plates trying to get the bearing races off the spindle. Outer bearing was missing the entire cage and one complete roller, apparently it's in the slack space between the spindle and brake rotor but I can't tell, because it's all still in one piece in a box in my garage! Ended up with everything new from the upright outwards.

TLDR it's amazing what can seem fine in the short term, but is actually post-catastrophic. If it locked down again it probably would have snapped the spindle and left me 3 wheeling with almost no brakes.

Why iffy front wheel bearings? Not a damn clue. Multiple shops and multiple brands, none ever made it past 50K and some died at 20… but the current set has well over a hundred thousand miles on them now, go figure. (315K on the truck.)

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ColinWatters says:

Think our coffee grinder makes less noise.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Pontificus Vascillious says:

    technically it's still working …

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jaakko Fagerlund says:

Thank you Ray for these infomative videos, we now learned that bearing making any noise still lasts a long time, but if it wobbles then it's time to call ungravity shop Ray.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hilton says:

There are people in some countries that can fix such problems with spit and tape. Good for another10k. Click

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Curtis Hill says:

It's funny that noise happened the same time the radio blew do you think they're connected

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nigel Cox says:

But it's true, it has only just started making that noise. It has been making a very similar noise for some time before that though.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gord says:

I left work a couple of years ago and my rear tire was making a scraping sound like this. It was hitting the dust shield when it rotated. it was quiet on my way to work but I had driven over some small tree debris and figured it just was bent a bit. When I got home I decided to pull the wheel off to get a better look and found my lug nuts were loose. This was mid summer and my wheels had been torqued properly and checked a few times since my winter tire swap. I then checked every lug nut on the truck and all of them were loose. I do my own tire swaps and no mistakes were made. Within a few days, 2 Ram trucks were stolen near my work, including an older one than mine that was parked 100 feet away from mine.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fred Walker says:

Ray, you “allways” make my day ! Your having a great day ! Replace both bearings fill washer fluid & move on ! LOL

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The Flat Rock says:

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars K Dogg says:

Man just squirt some grease in em. They be good til they drive the wheels off it!

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fred Walker says:

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kerry Lewis says:

I'll bet you could feel and hear those bearings

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Crane Gantry says:

Few more miles in those bearings, thank you Ray.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John T. says:

The bearing may have just collapsed so them saying it just started could be true. I had an old Corolla that made a slight rumbling noise for ages before I replaced the hub, it was a bit dry inside when I pulled it apart but hadn't collapsed yet. To the average driver that rumbling noise could have been anything as it came on so gradually.

Ray, I just want to say thank you for your videos. As a DIY'er I enjoy them greatly and have learned much. They have also given me the motivation to get back to work on my motorcycle (1985 Kawasaki Vulcan 700) that I am trying to get back on the road after sitting idle for a few years. Again, thanks and keep posting.

I have seen thing similar when I was younger, an older couple that was living not far from me probably knew I was doing some mechanics because I had lot of jeeps in my driveway and when my garage door was open it was visible I was working on something, so the old women pulled in my driveway and asked me to look at her wheel , it was visibly clear that the wheel bearing was gone , the wheel was about at 10 * camber but her husband told her it was good for couple weeks more ! When I lifted the car with the floor jack i was nearly able to remove the wheel it was coming at about 45* angle . It was an horror mechanic his husband did grind the rotor to remove the rust and make them flat , the women told me the brake pedal jump when she brake , when I looked through the rim I wasn’t believing my eyes , too bad it was in early 90 so nothing to record and no YouTube no social media like today ,,, it was in 1991 maybe . I had a computer but it was for some gaming it wasn’t even connected to internet , first time I was on internet was in 1996 .
