Regarding your ability to work well under pressure. Perhaps your nom de guerre should be Coolhand Rainman.

RY, maybe you could keep that nasty oil off by using one of those cow pregnancy test gloves under your shop gloves. Stay safe, you Wonder Mechanic. Are you from Wocanda?

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars z33511 says:

I think it's technically OK to use a pipe wrench on a Mercedes as long as the pipe wrench cost over $200.

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars thomas lyon says:

You could have saved most of that oil,if you were really concerned about wasting it

2-3K miles and the oils is black as it was 5-7K? that's not a good sign, unless the oil clean, is that near that dark. Washer and any other resource reuse should always be reused, No Waste, as least as possible, should be always our attitude.
Dude what I enjoy the most is the putting the new oil pouring and the starting zie engine to spread it, and then adding some more new oil, and you cut it out?! c'mon!

…… one has to hold in great regard a Master Technician who is on top of his
Schmoo Management Program. Finesse and confidence in the thorough removal of old schmoo in conjunction with precision and speed in the art of applying new schmoo is highly admirable, indeed.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ETicketM says:

Trick to using Rightstuff trigger is counterintuitive. When clear nozzle is screwed all the way down against the cans nozzle, it is closed. Turn it counterclockwise extending away from the can to enable the trigger. The farther you extend it the faster it applies the material when holding down the trigger.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars jim dandy says:

Those types of oil filters remind me of the early 60's Chevy V-8 with what they called i think the 'canister' type oil filter

I got a little confused by the title (I didn't read it properly) and thought the car was wrecked, so I was just waiting for something really broken to be discovered 😅
For me kaput = unretrievably broken

So relaxing to watch an oil pan be removed/reinstalled without having to take off the steering rack, water pump, and the entire ****ing engine subframe to do it. Take some notes, BMW…

"The Right Stuff" is definitely the right stuff. It's great for making gaskets, or like in this case to replace rtv sealant. Have used it for some years, never had a failure or leak.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars CooperZ says:

Imagine a oil pan on so well but leaks

If you use 3M Ultra grey sealant,
It works even if oil IS present.
    Was for diesel engines.
It was 599 Ultra Grey but may be
    A four digit number now.

Luxury car. Use a stick to hold the hood up!

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Cody Pappa says:

Okay second question: is getting the sealant in the threads a big deal or not? Intuition tells me it might bind up the threads once it gets in there but obviously rays experience shows it doesn’t matter much. Just curious how careful I should be with it in the future

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Cody Pappa says:

Genuine question for the guys around here. Does using the hard carbide scraper have any dangers of scratching the block? I always thought you would want to use a softer material to not gouge your metals. Thanks!

You put the large O ring on the oil filter housing cap in the wrong place. There is a groove right at the top which the O ring should stretch to seat in, you put O ring in the groove below.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andy Johnson says:

Use vaseline or petrolium jellyl to avoid pincheridge of seals of oil filter

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phillip McMurran says:

I used to work in the aircraft industry and we used to use Hylomar blue to seal non gasket seal. It doesn't dry.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars the saltlife man show says:

Love the channel altho I always cringe at anyone taking anything german to anyplace that isnt certified specifically to work on that particular brand. Audi, Mercedes, vw. They are a pain I'll agree. But for a reason. They want people to only bring them to their shops. As someone who loves my german cars. I wont own anything american specifically because typically it's not. Honestly probably the most American brands are toyota Hyundai and vw. The passat is completely manufactured in Chattanooga Tennessee and is one of the greenest places that make cars. The audi q5 is made in mexico for example. And here locally close to me in Indiana they make the Camry and subarus. I'd never buy one specifically because I kno the people that work there. Most are high all the time. And dont care about their careers. I've also been to the german factory in ingolstadt that first made vws. And where the Audi r8 is made. They take tremendous pride in what they build. Now all that being said. I'd never own a german vehicle that doesnt have a complete covered warranty for the powertrain and electronics. I've owned plenty of audi s3 rs3 s5 q5 and now an RSQ8. Tremendous vehicles but I'd never ever want to buy one. Lease only and for 3 years lol.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gregory Fairchild says:

On my Audi Q7 there is an o ring on the removed filter cover AND another o ring on the engine side of the housing.
Many people think the 2nd o ring in the filter kit is not needed BUT it's essential.
Make sure yours don't take 2 o rings check repair info.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gregory Fairchild says:

On this type sealing you must have a surgically oil free surface.
And I usually hand tight the bolts then wait at least 15 minutes before applying torque as to not squeeze all of the sealant out of the mating surface.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matt Voelker says:

What’s that magnet tool you use on drain plugs??

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars lwnf360 says:

When I worked at Autozone the "cheez wiz" can of The Right Stuff was a very commonly stolen item due to it's price to size ratio. It almost never sold–most DIYers don't need that much, so they buy the smaller tube. People would steal it and then try to do a no receipt return for store credit. I would check the inventory and the shelf, if there was a mismatch, no return. Permatex lists it as the premium product in all its marketing materials. Pricey compared to the regular RTV, but it's supposed to be the best.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars kirlu50 says:

Why is there such a big difference between the amounts of oil each engine must have. My car only takes about four and a half litre. What can be said about engines that are designed for large amounts of oil? Anyone,,?

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tony Hughes says:

Love the vid's, not so much the phone ringer impression !!! 😎

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Who Knows says:

I fucking enjoyed it, sorry for not being constructive

  50. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul says:

RTV, so much more fun than a gasket.
