If I tried this, I'd start with a Ford F150 and end with a Chevy Malibu.
You were so close to fixing it quickly and saving the customer a lot of money!! There are different kinds of signals that temp sensors send out. 1-5V or 4-20ma are the two most common. 99 percent of temp sensors put out those two signals. There are volt meters that simulate those signals! You could have cut the wires to the old sensors, hooked up one of those volt meters and tried putting out 4.5 V onto the return wires while having the diagnostic tool hooked up and see what the correct range for temperature was. For example, if you put out 3V and the temperature reading was 60 degrees, and then you put out 4.5V and the temp reading was 130 degrees you would have your slope/scale. every 1.5V equals 70 degrees etc. Then you just keep adjusting the voltage until you find the high range and low range. Then you buy a simple temp sensor that has the matching signal output online and voila, you could have fixed that by just prying it open which was genius! I hope you see this, you can add this skill to your repertoire!

That is shame on Ford for wasting so much tech for a sensor, how ridiculous and I will never buy a Ford because of this disgraceful waste of resources and money.
Nice job Ray! Can't believe the complexity of that dash! I had to take the dash apart in a 73 Satellite to retrieve a kitten hiding in the air ducts. She kept moving farther in. Complete disassembly took 2 hrs, same to reassemble. Kitten was fine too!
All totaled: the most expensive AC overhaul in history.

Never buy one too hard to repair!
Pitty some person that buys a nice used Ford thinking all it needs is a little refrigerant. I stopped working on cars when you needed a computer to talk to the car's computer. When to HVAC instead, yep now you need a computer to communicate with the HVAC system.
Another example of Ford's exemplary engineering. I bought new Fords in 1963. Falcon,, good basic car. In 1968, Mustang convertible (hey the year I got a divorce). Still mostly leftover Falcon parts, but a good basic car. I put a lot of miles on both of them. Add airbags, seatbelts and a little body reinforcement and I would drive them today. Then cometh 1980. Ford's platform than included the Thunderbird, and a Mercury. Several of us bought the T-bird and some the Mercury. One Mercury owner had to have the car towed back to the dealer before she got home with it. One guy had the T-bird had 300 miles on it. It had never been driven anywhere but from the dealers to his house. The only thing good about the T-bird was good gas mileages and it ran on Shell gasahol really good, but no other brand. The service manager of where I bought the car, after the third dash replacement assured me that the electronic gas gauge was no indication of the fuel in the tank.
I don't remember what year it was, but Ford didn't build a pick up that year. The prior one ton extended cab models had a tendency to break half in two. Then their problem with the porous engine castings. Then a couple of years Ford vehicles had a tendency to burn all by themselves.
The T-bird and that platform had a transmission problem. If the transmission was in overdrive and a panic stop was initiated, the engine died.
It happened to me on the Interstate surrounded by semis and a Greyhound bus. A car magazind asked Ford about it. Ford replied that no recall would be made because only 1 something fatalities would ensue in 100,000 panic stops. Sheesh, I'm sure I have the figures wrong, but it was 1980 and my meds haven't took hold. When I read that article the next day after work I wholesaled the car to get rid of it. It wouldn't start when they came to get it. Had to have it towed to the dealer.
Ford Motor Credit claimed I missed a payment. I sent a replacement check. Eighteen months later the bank called me. When I sold the car Ford Motor Credit sent the original check in for payment. My banker stamped it with a large sloppy NON NEGOTIOBLE across the face of the check.
Need I tell you I finished with Ford in 1980.

I whoodof seen if you can cut a hole wright in front of the sencer put 2hinges on it and a lock and to seal wear the cut is silicone or type it to seal the cut Ford should of put a door for that sensor that's too much work to go through for One sensor I would have suggested doing that to the airbox and talk to the customer about that because you don't see any of that part when you're sitting in the truck all that's hidden
I had to do the same job on a 99 Durango. I replaced the heater core and evaporator core. It took me 8 hours. A year later the heater core started leaking again, so I had to repeat the whole job a second time. Ugh
… watching all that malarkey that sooo frikin annoying… how you kept it together I don't know… if you thinking of buying a Ford product, think again
I would have literally put a resistor on the connector to signal to make it come within in range thru the spectrum

Manufactured only paid labor 6.0 I hope you get 12.0 or 15.0 cp, dash is alway a headaches , back in early 90’s I have a fund of doing a lot of dash removing . Because all the tech hate this jobs or electrical problems
