If I hadn't seen for my own eyes my wheels having play in them and thinking about that time I hit a pothole in an awful nasty manner, I probably would have accused the overpriced chain store that I have to go get my wheels aligned and tires balanced at of trying to rip me off. It helps to think back on these things before flipping your shit and making an ass out of yourself.
I like to smoke machine thing I wish we had one of our shop. We just had to look at everything. That would have came in handy.

Really not a fan of Toyota's, I owned a Corolla 4cyc. stick rear wheel drive 100 dollar car to run around with. I junked it. But just the same. I'm a NASCAR Fan, and Toyota doesn't make and have Never made a V8 powered RWD car.. yet they are in NASCAR…. Why? they bought their way in… But that's a hole other thing…. Like your Video's…
It’s a shame that auto mechanics, in general, are not always trusted, sometimes for good reason. In addition, some people just don’t trust anyone.
Being 80 MYSELF , Dad taught me to " top off" , my gas tank , long before , evap systems were invented !
The customer isn't always right,
That guy didn't like hearing he is the reason why the car is messed up.
So many people have been ripped off by crooked and lousy mechanics I can understand the customers mind set. BUT you are doing everything right! In the end it's the customers loss!
I am sure the customer was told this by the other company that replaced the canister the first time that it happened again but he thinks he knows better. I was saying purge canister right after you showed the gas gauge because unless he just bought gas the gauge would not be pegged like that and honestly if no smoke comes out of the gas fill it is because the raw gas in the canister is stopping it was my thought. If I am wrong I would like to hear why.
You did a hell of a job with the research you did, he might not thank you but we do!

Ray we can’t win them all but take pride in the fact that you taught us an important lesson which is once you hear that click when filling your gas tank stop done deal. I hope you gave him the video and he gets to see the dedication and attention to detail you give to these cars and trucks god bless.
I remember when we got our Prius in 2004, we received stern warnings about not overfilling the gas tank for this very reason.

The reluctance of the owner to divulge all the info at the outset is a sure red flag. They don't know what is going on with their vehicle but, they want to tell you you're wrong. 💩4🧠
For sure I tried to round out my fuel cost to an even number. Click, click and another click. While this customer did not appreciate it your viewers did. I for one learned a valuable lesson and no longer try to overfill
by all the response even if the customer is maybe unable to learn. you did a valuable service to your viewers. i will always stop on the first click.

The problem is also exacerbated by the massive number of automotive-malpractice that happens every day. So many people getting ripped off by bad and dishonest mechanics, that no one should be surprised when the customer thinks they are getting ripped off. I have definitely been ripped off personally many times. Now, I just do all my own work and it gets done right every time and for a fraction of the cost. When I am no longer physically able to do my own work, I will just lease Japanese cars and turn them in at the end of every lease term.

I have always overfilled all my cars all my life. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. …100 cliks until i can actually see the gas (diesel). Call it "real top up" Never had problems. But now I will stop doing it.
I'm on the mechanic's side here and I don't know if he tried analogies to explain the situation, like, for example, comparing putting too much oil in the engine, which would cause major oil leaks and damage to sensors and a LOT of gaskets would need to be replaced because if the oil is high enough that the crankshaft would be slamming into the oil hundreds of times a second (counter-weights/protrusions/bottom of each piston) causing oil to be slammed around inside the oil pan and up into the undersides of the pistons.
Fluid containers all have a "F" full marking, why? Because if you go past that "F" bad things can, and will, happen.
The "F" on the gas gauge is to keep the gas level low enough so that the vent tubes start "sucking" liquid gas instead of what they are designed to carry, VAPORS. There are dozens of examples.
Friend of mine, while the car was COLD, filled up the coolant reservoir ALL the way then started it and let it idle for a while. When the engine warmed up, of course the coolant expanded a bit and caused the reservoir to overflow. Not a huge issue, except his 4yo little girl had just gotten a kitten for her birthday and the coolant pooled under the car (only a few ounces, but for a tiny kitten, enough and then some to kill a tiny kitten. Kitten thinks it's a treat (a LOT of coolants have glycerin mixed in which has a sweet taste) and laps up quite a bit, ending up getting very sick on the little girl's bed and then dying in front of the girl. They know it was the coolant because of the yellowish vomit and the smell of coolant from her bed.
The tanks have a "Fill to HERE—– when cold" that was perfectly visible but completely ignored, causing his little girl, who'd only had the kitten for a few days, to be completely devastated. This was over 10 years ago and as far as I can remember, they tried getting her other pets but she would have nothing to do with any of them… she was convinced

One thing is for sure. The customer has never read the owners manual. Over filling the fuel tank is covered in plain English. Maybe , he just can't read.
If I stopped at the first click, on both my 2003 VW New Beetle, or my 2001 Corolla, I'd only ever have 1/2 a tank. Both cars "burp" after the first click.

Defective fuel cap on these cars and other Toyota / Lexus models can cause numerous dash warning lights to come on. Just went through this with my 2005 ES330. New gas cap, all fixed.
The minute I saw they had a brand new canister and vent valve I had my suspicions. I’ve run into this a couple of times. Typically I’ve found that the over flow/vent line to the tank has been particularly or completely clogged so the gasoline backs up into the canister before it should, while filling up.
