Come along with Eric O. at the SMA repair shop as we do a quick diagnosis on this 2006 Dodge Caliber with the infamous DTC P2004 - Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open. We also get to see a small example as to why having two scan tools is a good thing as the Snap-On Verus fails again.

I have an 08 compass 2.4l and am having trouble diagnosing the upstream o2 sensor slow response code ive changed sensors and everything and can't figure it out. I'm led to now maybe the intake manifold leaking? Or any suggestions? I'd forever be in your debt sir as I've been trying to get this jeep fixed and inspected for months. Now being after the new year in ny state the color of the sticker has changed and its an instant pull me over lol so I pay insurance on a vehicle I can't drive. Any advice at all thanks sincerely murph

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ronald Mahoney says:

This is not cut and dry! The intake could be sticking thinking its the valve! also, they could have ground, splice, problems according to the schematic diagram!

Struggling with ircm. Ive got one ordered I know that with messing with it pulling it off the car and reinstalling it will start sometimes. Depending if its opened or closed. Is it possible that this part will cause it not to start the engine? Along with a shotty ground? Also do the runners only travel 1/4 inch?

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jacob Martinez says:

Will this cause the car not to move? I'm getting this code. My car will turn on, but when I put it in drive or reverse and press the gas, it won't move. It might briefly jerk an inch or 2 but that's it.

got a similar one it's a 07 2.7l v6 charger … verified all the values to confirm a bad value . replaced it for customer still having a code for random misfire and intake manifold runner valve circut hi I had this person buy all 4 new o2 because I notice there are all stuck on hi. any direction for me . we also remove the intake mAnifold clean the best I could . my original code was a Chrysler p1005 . as I said replaced the value at the customer expense . still having a issue… my next step for me is to physically remove each coil to chase the misfire because my thought Is even if the intake has an issue . I should not see a miss at idle which is what's going on . also I not that the rpm is limited to 4,000rmp no matter the speed of vehicle . anyone with help please comment back

I saw this video today. I have a 2009 Avenger. Same issue to IMRC code p2004. If I replace just the IMRC does the ECM need a flash or just if I replace the whole intake with the new IMRC attached ?

Thank you for explaining in detail the procedures involved and how to use the scan tool in conjunction with various other tools! I"ve called Autel and they literally know nothing about the terminology or procedures to use the scanner properly to diagnosis vehicles! I have to learn by experience and Thank God, for you tube videos!

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hendogg28 says:

Idk how meany of those valves ive replaced and not did the update/flash on and worked like a charm.. 99% of the time it’s just the electric motor stops working and it’s just nuts & bolts and clear the codes.. And she’s good for anther 100k miles..

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Jackson says:

I worked on one of those dodge caliber today.8 codes and this was one of them. Biggest issue I saw with the car was the driver side headlight was only half full of fluid. I'm serious, it was half full of water. I've made the joke that the headlight fluid is low a million times, for once I wasn't joking. What a P.O.S though.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joezy N says:

Ok if the cool intake code is on what is the cause

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars SingleCab Steve says:

I realize the control motor was bad, but could you have not just cleaned the flapper assembly instead of replacing the entire manifold?

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Lindsey says:

Is… the red lock important? He went flying off.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Niecy Is here. says:

I have a 2004 ford mustang that scanned as having an intake manifold open. That's probably why the engine light is on. Will this cause an engine not to start?

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars G Teal says:

E , did the vehicle have a stall condition ?

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Montrois says:

Eric my question is if you change the intake runner control actuator does the pcm need to be reflashed? Changed one for a buddy of mine about a year and a half ago. Well now its back with the P2004 and P2016 code plus the slow response of down stream O2 sensor. Pulled the actuator and checked runner flap its not stuck. Any help would be great. Im up here in Rochester not far from you love your videos man. Thanks!!

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Chiodetti says:

Great Video! I. M.R.C. They can be fun. When another tech changed the engine, he didn't know about the I.M.R.C. Motor, mounted down low at the rear of the engine, breaks one or more of the 20 gauge IMRC wires so they couldn't be seen, and I got it! Complete with the damaged, original intake manifold. 2005 Ford Expedition. What a learning curve! BUT…..I fixed it.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Duncan Mac says:

Snap-on is far too big to listen to it's customers, it wouldn't be economically viable, they'd lose money having to fix the problem or at the very least add to the programming. Grip away maybe, just maybe if enough people complain they might listen. Good luck. Thanks for the video.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phil H says:

i had the same problem on a 2007 jeep today. the strap on scanner did the same thing with 17.4! junk

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars lee ann says:

Did I hear you right? Did you say the money light was on? lol!!!

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gadget says:

I was thinking of something that may save time. They make these new test lights. You connect the power and ground to it. And depending if you touch a positive or ground a different color light lights up. I got mine at O'rilies if I remember right. Works nice. I got it because i bought a Chrysler. And wiring issues.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Gibson says:

Yo Eric, Its tough being at the top of the game but I'm sure you understand. In my experience, the more knowledge you share or expand on, the more these liberal snow flake come out of the wood worksto try and match wits in a very ignorant manner, and do nothing more then expose there very stupid asses.Keep shinning big dog,  most of your explanations are spot on and in mostcases provide a more intuitive explanation then most of the ac delco class instructionthat I have attended.Word up!

Playing' vid catch-up after vacation. I'm way behind!

Snap-On sounds like a subsidiary of GM – building overpriced stuff that doesn't do what it's supposed to. Par for the course! Glad I grabbed the Autel.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics says:

Eric, why waste your money on yearly updates? Just get a new scanner every three years for less $$! (Keith D is getting ready to throw tomatoes at my face now xD haha

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Arthur Esclamada says:

it's funny that snap-on is suing harbor freight.. somehow they're scared of how the harbor freight is on par with their products…
