Let' come along with Eric O. at the SMA shop as he has a look at this 2008 Chrysler Town And Country that came in with a complaint of no power locks and no power windows when operated from the drivers door. This vehicle takes Eric O. on a path that he is not to familiar with and that is diagnosing an Interior CAN ( controller area network ) system. Lets grab the trusty scope on the rope and the Autel and have a look!

I had an issue with the lock and unlock buttons where it would lock from the unlock button and the lock button would not work. The solution was to open up the switch and spray contact cleaner and put it back. No more problem on grand caravan 08.

This guy is great! I wish I knew him in my 30 years of growing up in Chicago. I think my town and country's problem is a rear blend actuator, but this guy makes the best videos. I hope he makes some more about T&C's. Thank you very much Sir.

Just did this repair yesterday. A basic repair after watching your video. Customer states her 2008 Chrysler Town and Country had intermittent wiper and headlight activation, audible bell sound, dash lights all flash , tach and speedo stop working when idling and/or when driving down the road. Windows and locks also not operational. Quick diagnosis and located a white with gray line wire broken in driver's side front door harness by the door jam connector. Solder repair and heat shrink installed. I am still amazed this one broken wire could cause so much chaos.. Also , customer states drove vehicle for a month because she thought it was haunted and she feared a mechanic would condemn her vehicle. Thank you for the informative video.

Thank you so much Eric. I have a 2012 Town& Country that is doing the same thing. I now know where to look.

great video, My problem with my Caravan is the passengers front window works with the drivers door switch. When I try to put the window up or down, with the passengers door switch, it won't work. I will now try your wiggle wiggle test on the wiring harness in the passengers door jam. I do not have a otc scan tool like you are using. I can only do is touchy-feely test. Your video at least will guide me. so I'am not going down the garden path. LOL.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Vangorden says:

And it's cheaper tencent fuse versus a $300 or $500 module I'm just guessing on the prices I know they're astronomical.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Vangorden says:

It's cheaper to just have a fuse. All these modules are just a waste of time.

The first place I always check is the wiring between the door and body ,,, with the swinging of the door it will ware the wire casing and brake the wire inside ,,,,, I have worked on those same problems all the time on older cars and trucks and found that the problems always end up on the door harness ,,,

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars KEN MCCORMICK says:

just an observation, the wire stripper works better, if the flat side is facing the end of the wire. works in either direction, but the beveled side compresses the plastic, which means it takes more effort to strip the covering off.

Harness $160 off Amazon if one breaks, will another?

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars KRTube75 says:

That's familiar. I've had to splice the wires in the flex connector for the right rear door in my ram 1500. I suspect a break in my suburban as well. The other known issues with both the dodge and gm window controls is broken solder joints. I've fixed several over the years saving me hundreds of dollars in parts.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Derek Simenac says:

Thing too is that anyone on the network can talk. If someone waiting to talk hears someone talking it will back off for a random amount of time before it tires to talk on the line again.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars spdermnky says:

I've lost all power to mine. I cant even move my mirrors, locks, or windows. Any suggestions? I checked fuses and seem to be good. Replaced the actual switch boards.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Belial Claytix says:

Jesus fuck I’ll never buy a newer used vehicle and if I buy a new vehicle I’m keeping it until the warranties are gone and then so is the vehicle. This shit is asinine. My vehicles are older than I am and the power goes from the switch to the motor for the window and that’s it. If it doesn’t work then the switch isn’t getting power or the motor isn’t getting power. Simple fucking system.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars B L says:

You know I was in a recent car accident and I couldn't get out of the car I smell gas so I shut off the ignition. Somebody hit me broadside and the car flipped there was no way I could open the doors there was no way I could roll down the window all the sensors stopped that was an eye-opener for me I will never have another car with power windows and power doors I recently bought an older vehicle so I could have that privilege and I noticed that the new 2019 Nissan Versa the base models have no power windows..
There has been reports of kids getting their head in there and being choked to death and a friend of mine just lost his friend because when he drove his car into the water when it was slippery in winter last year the sensors stopped working the poor guy couldn't even on roll the windows he couldn't break the windows he couldn't open the door nothing and somebody saw him go into the water and they called the ambulance the guys came and took him to the hospital he was in the hospital for two weeks in a coma and died. At least with roll down Windows he could get out so you guys can keep your power windows never again will I have it because they had to come and break my window to get me out of the car.
And if nobody was there to help me I would have been hooped especially if the car started on fire..

Being a car mechanic requires you to be a bit of a jack of all trades type of guy. Need to be a bit of a traditional mechanic, fitter, plumber, HVAC technician, electrician, machinist, fabricator, and these days IT guy. Part of the reason I love it.
    Edit: Forgot welder.
