Now that we have diagnosed the Dodge Caravan with the code P2308 "Ignition Coil 3 Secondary Circuit - Insufficient Ionization" in the first video, it is time to replace the ECM with a used one and see if we can figure out the rest of this puzzle.

Epic videos. I replaced my plugs cables, ignition coil, and still I have a misfire

misfire data is under system check in Autel

My 2017 Dodge Grandioso flagged an engine light this morning. Now at the shop running a diagnostic and I am hoping I can interrupt the shop manager and say, "wait, let me guess … a P#### cylinder misfire code?"", well my friend this is how we fix it … and then link to your video!

How long and how much should something like this be. Here in year 2021 and in Evansville Indiana.

In autel, check MODE 6 for misfire counts. There is a kind of COP probe BAR for picking the coil secondary spark signals on sequence. two bars serial connected for two banks of coils, the fire order is 1 2 3 4 5 6.

Looking for some ideas . 05 Chrysler Town and country with the 3.3. Idles nice, but won't develop any power. Starts running rough around 3500rpms, won't upshift till you let off the accelerator. If you want to go into passing gear, it's like you shifted into neutral. Exhaust glows right after manifold on 2,4,6 bank. Compression is good, codes P0404, P0406, & P0700

Latest update on autel it now has misfire data

Your diagnoses is good enough to justify throwing all new coils at it.

    Hi how are you
Thanks for this video I learned a lot of from you
But when you replace used ecu you don't need subscribe with launch x431 or ezydiag only write vin number the car should be start
    Thanks

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Master Chief 00117 says:

Diagnostics will not drive the Amps that high..You would asking for trouble. As the fuse is only rated for what 20amps?

How, do you keep going?? Investigating

Such an interesting case study… I'm hooked! Part 3, here I go! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜…

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shaun O says:

Eric, I can't help but think that the reason tech authority wouldn't allow you to enter that PIN was because you didn't rewrite the VIN into the donor PCM first. I'd bet that would have saved you the trouble of swapping the boxes around as much as you did.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars H.V.G says:

Big compliments, you take lots of time to diagnoses the problem ๐Ÿ‘. Instead of hook on a computer to read the codes and throwing part on the car to replace. What most shops do.
Love to watch your videos ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeremy hanna says:

Swap that coil see if problem follows the coil

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Duncan Mac says:

A head scratcher. Thanks for the video.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Norman Gallant says:

I am curious.I would like the condition of the spark plug and compare with the rest. Also the coil

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Austin Hise says:

I know itโ€™s an old video but if you ever run into that issue again, look at the top right it tells you the vin itโ€™s reading and at the time you were having the issues it was reading the vin out of the used pcm not the car.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mt man 1949 says:

Switch the coils see if it moves

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phil H says:

do you get the key code with the subscription?? also autel does programmable module installation for fords its a bad ass tool

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Vince Bauer says:

and I believe it was an newer.. town and country

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Vince Bauer says:

I seen that same coil pattern on a danner video ecm was fine he switched coils.. and same thing bad coil

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeff Lee says:

I have an autel at my shop. I was trying to program a set of keys but couldn't get the 4 digit code from the dealership. Is there another way to obtain it? How did you get the security code?

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars E Flanagan says:

Mopar Giant shows about $40 for coil, plug and capacitor. You have many hours/dollars in diag ,why ?

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars flmmaz says:

"crap biscuits" they ruin my process as well. lol

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Randy Hilton says:

    that's interesting

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars larry mencke says:

hi eric just a thought but there is a website you can go to called IATN international automotive technicians network you can usally find any good known waveforms for coils crank and cam sensorsย  any waveform you need and I believe it has nkown bad ones also

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Plague Plague says:

How much do you charge for diagnosing an issue like this. I run into the issues occasionally that take 3/4 hours of work, but at my rate that would be 400 dollars…

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rapid Rattler says:

Hi eric, i like your rhythm , momentum and genuine excitement as your diagnosis unfolds. love watching your videos, keep them up.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Louis Nemick says:

I have been watching your videos for a while now and I appreciate you keeping your channel clean.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard J Lebens says:

Since the current limit in the PCM is set to about 15 Amps and the anomaly goes to 17 it almost has to be something in the coil. If there is a hole in the coil with carbon tracks around it we can do wild speculation.
Here's some… if there is a fault between the primary and secondary on the auto transformer where the secondary arcs back over to the primary sending HV back to the PCM it will not be a happy camper.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Last says:

Can't it be the TIPM? It is a Chrysler! LOL.

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JOHN HUFNAGEL says:

That was excellent trouble shooting Eric. I personally think that the computer senses something wrong with the #4 cyl. and firing it again. I would swap the coil to another hole.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D really says:

This same problem was on #3 before the ecm was swapped. So, is there a sensor that is sensing that 1 coil (was 3 , now 4) has not fired and is trying to correct it ?????

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Smitty Smithsonite says:

Wow, what a pain in the bum programming that thing! I'd have been melting down big time thinking I just made a brick, lol.

I'm going to have to check and see if the Autel I got has that capability. I don't have the Elite.

Can't wait for part III ! The suspense is killing me!

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dustin Sigmon says:

Eric O did you try to put it in Drive to duplicate the original bad misfire at all? I am just curious if your bad wave form on the #4 would be more drastic or consistently bad with a load on it?

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mr. Bob Dobalina says:

Did you check the blinker fluid?

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars wysetech2000 says:

I can't jump to conclusions but one of the You-Tube certified techs should know the answer. Send em a badge, Eric. HaHaHa

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars theoldwizard998 says:

Watching again, not the how long the coil is "ON" for when it acts up compared to how long it, or any other coil, is ON for ! When it messes up, it is starting to charge (dwell) the coil coil much longer. Why it starts charging early is an unknown.

It would be interesting to look at the crankshaft position sensor pulse in relation to those 2 waveforms. One thing that will cause early charge time is "adaptive dwell", which is where the PCM thinks the engine is accelerating so in order to get a full charge on the coil it starts charging the coil earlier.
