Would this also cause a shutdown while driving
Had a 1999 intrepid at 108,000 miles mr valve met mr piston, stretched or broken timing chain , car still looked good , gave it to a mechanic who ended up taking it to a salvage

Is that a Chrysler Intrepid or a Dodge Intrepid. Because Chrysler Intrepid us were a uniquely Canadian vehicle. Dodge built the Intrepid in the United States. And they may have different security systems. I know because I actually help my son purchase a Canadian Chrysler Intrepid and drove it back down to Texas. One of the nicest cars he ever owned. It was however destroyed by a drunk driver while it was parked in front of his place in Lubbock Texas.

@South Main Auto Repair LLC Eric, can you explain how you'd go about writing the VIN on this car w/o a DRB (e.g. using the Autel or some other scan tool)? I have a 99 that I had to replace the BCM on and I need to write it because it has the same security system and I've heard it won't run unless the VINs match. And would that be the VINs matching between the PCM and the ECM? Because I've also acquired a number of junkyard ECMs one of which I might use if I also find a problem with my original.
I have better luck with the Chrysler adapter that comes with the autel but then again I haven’t had to do anything MAJOR yet

Great video. You definitely were quicker at determining the PCM was bad as compared to me. I would have been stumped if the PCM was missing some sort of input to know to communicate with the BCM or did it encounter a communication fault that had the PCM stop communicating with the BCM. That is where your knowledge and experience is much greater than mine.
I also usually don't just unplug harness into a computer or module to test communication. It is like debugging your mouse on your computer by unplugging all connections on the computer and seeing that no signal and no voltage are present on the mouse cable, when it was caused by the computer losing complete power by the power cord being unplugged. Weird example, but I hope you follow what I'm trying to say. So again, in this case, you would have been far faster at diagnosing it.
In the end, I have an empty feeling. It is because the reason for the PCM going south was not determined. At this point I guess it is pure component failure. Given comments, I guess this is very common.
Eric what are your thoughts of the Maxysis performance. I am looking at the Elite with the wireless system, but not sure yet!

I think it switches to ground so red for hot and then I thought purple/grn to black. ? drivers side. Or is it only passengers side?

Eric O.It must suck for you to have to complete a drive cycle. I know sometimes my Truck Silverado 5.3, takes over 100 miles, to set all monitors. It's old enough now that I can get away with one monitor not set.
Is the reason you're doing this because the car has to be smogged due to expired tags.
Glad it was quick and simple but the last time someone gave me a reman computer to put in it was junk lol. But thats just how things go when you know for a fact thats what it needs makes the boss question your diagnosis until you get a good one and works flawless. I dont call a module unless Im 100 percent sure like I see you do and others that I watch do as well.

F'N cardone is getting as bad as dorman. I sent one of my commercial clients 2 reman wiper motors and a new one from cardone and they where all junk. he finally goes to the yard and gets one and it works great… 2 days of looking like an ass hat because cardone can't build parts anymore.
If you need any parts for that Trep… I have one on the driveway impersonating a paperweight.

Now it leaves to the question why did the original ECM die? My sister had a 1998 Ford Taurus Wagon. One day she got in it and started it up. Went down the street and the engine sputtered and died. Would not restart. Pushed it back to the drive way. I came over and it did not throw codes I could talk to it with scan tool but there was burning smell in the glove box area when key was on. Saw that is where the ECM lived. Pulled it out and you can just smell the burnt unit. So got a replacement one. Found out it had to be programmed by dealer for security so it can start. Got that done after $70 later plus towing fee. She had it for another 8 months. Then the sub-frame mounts busted. Car was not road worthy anymore. When she went to go show it to a seller who needed the motor and transmission the computer burned up again. But told the guy the engine and transmission were perfect working condition. He bought it. Same odor same thing as it was 8 months prior. Make me wonder if the main harness had a short somewhere.
Wasn't it worth repairing the old ECM? The last time I had a dead one was about 4 years ago on my 2001 Astra and I went for a used one from a breaker. It was cheaper then having the old one repaired.
American car companies and their engines, v-6 2.7, 3.2, 3.5, 3.7 liter. Why so many?
Honda v-6 3.5, that's it.
