In this video I have a look at a Dodge Ram with the big Hemi in it. Customer complaint is a flashing engine light and a noticeable misfire. Well... it doesn't end well for this one. -Enjoy!

Just before this video I reading in a Ram forum on the 5.7, someone said they had a spark plug that was flattened, but no idea why!!!!!! Then I come here and see this. Was thinking of buying a used 2004 Dodge Ram 5.7 4×4 since I just moved to Utah, very low mileage and researching on it. Mhhhh……..

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Bates says:

This is the same truck that you found a busted valve spring that twisted off of the top was only started floored, and it had no valvetrain noise because it was locked into the busted valve spring retainer holding it together….lol poor hemi..

I have a 04 ram 4×4 5.7 with p0304 code . Has new engine, new computer (3) times, new 02 sensors, new fuel injection, new plugs and wires, new coil packs, new sensors all around. Still 3 shops can't find the problem. Can anyone help.

Sad day for the owner 💧😭💦

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Mahoney says:

Is this the same RAM as a year prior that had a bad misfire and running real rich?

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Donald Painter says:

We have articulating borescopes in aviation but I bought a Teslong borescope on Amazon for home use. It has two cameras, one of them is on the side so you can see the valves. Its still 5mm so it fits everywhere. The resolution is true HD and it has it's own 5" screen. You can save the videos to an SD card and upload it to your computer. I had the same one you're using and for $120, the Teslong one blow it out of the water.

I'm suspicious this is the same truck he replaced a valve spring in Cylinder 5 in a previous video :?, lol

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeffrey Battousai Strader says:

The wife's 2011 RAM 1500 5.7 Hemi threw a misfire code on #7 cylinder. Changed the Coil Pack and Plugs, still threw a misfire code. Found out the Hydraulic Lifter had seized on the #7 Intake and chewed up the lobe on the camshaft. Dealer had to eat the cost of the repair. However 6 months later, the entire engine started having issues. Come to find out the mechanic did not flush the block to remove Lifter/Camshaft metal fragments. Main Bearings and Cam Bearings ended up getting destroyed.

If you baby it, it could last awhile

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Daugherty says:

This is the same truck that had a broken valve spring

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Glen Bailey says:

yeah old hemi flaw valve seat drop . and dodge do not care

The guy has a HEAVY FOOT on the gas pedal. My Theory. In Texas, We sell them a Reman engine.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars smokejumper says:

You could drive as a local around the town clunker in small town usa, vac out chunks it would fire for awhile, but explosive power stroke would eventually take ring out. Chances are some of those chuncks scored the cylinder wall also. Its a short hop to the salvage yard unless you replace piston. Which means a rebuild. The trucks probably worth more in salvage parts if body is straight to a recycle yard. Im to old now, but i always found it very satisfying to rebuild an engine, and while your at it you can juice em up abit with better than factory stuff. The down side, wont get money back out on trade or sale and where is the transmission rear end tires body etc.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DemonKnight says:

Had a 94 polaris slt 750 jet ski 3 cylinder engine. Centere cylinder spacer ring was a little too short and was slapping the spark plug. Few year's after i sold it guy i sold it to showed me cylinder the plug imbebed itself in the piston then broke loose and blew hole in bottom of motor.

How many times was this truck in the shop? It’s bad when viewers start recognizing the same vehicle in multiple SMA vids…

Took my 2004 dodge ram 1500 5.7 hemi to the dodge place to have engine light fixed they replaced gas tank lines then two fuel injectors 4200 bucks later light still on code saying misfire on 2 and 3 any Suggestions

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fox Mulder says:

Great channel. This guy lives in a different world of mechanics. I can't imagine myself using a tablet to diagnose the problem and Reading codes. With the stuff carbureted I work with I just have to check if I have spark and if I'm getting fuel.

Very few oil changes, engine was poorly maintain 😲💣💣💣

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ROBERT R Penny says:

Hemi's drop valve seats out of alum heads which can fragment and damage piston, head and cylinder. So that's my guess. Used motor time boys.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars brad zumbro says:

Funny enough I've pulled more than a few plugs out of engines that were closed like that and found no mechanical problems. Replaced the plugs and the customer was on they're way with no problems.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars dufus says:

Is the engine built in Mexico with the rest of the dodge truck?

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars dufus says:

I would charge more to work on an engine that nasty. OR charge a fee to wash off before working on it. It's only fare.. If the engine has received as bad a treatment as the rest of the the truck., it's probably toast.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tony V says:

    Theory? = DODGE..
    No more 'splaining necessary.

What happened was Dodge quit making reliable engines when they dropped the 318/360, 3.9 V6 and the legendary slant 6.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars T Oadaly says:

It's a 16 year old truck. If I knew for sure I'd get 16 years out of a truck, I'd have no hesitation to buy it. Not many Hondas or Toyotas last 16 years either.

    Hemi fall down go boom!

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars George Ford says:

No sign of a valve hitting the piston, so given the miles on it I posit that someone wound it up past the rev limit and the piston top kissed the ring ridge.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Danny Bowen says:

How about the cam and lifters

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jared Kennedy says:

On these electronic throttle engines, you can hold the pedal to the floor and it'll disable fuel while cranking.
