In this video I look at 2004 Ram 2500 with the Cummins engine that came in with a laundry list of complaints. Everything from the taillights (literally) to the engine. -Enjoy!

Cool I didn't know you had a brother that runs a repair shop also neat Eric sir.

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars justin watch says:

Hey just in case you weren't aware, that's a ground problem or a bad connector.

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike says:

Eric, OEM APPS's are a POS. Need to go after market like a Timbo APPS which is commercial grade (i.e. total opposite of Dorman). Also, the APPS needs to be trained when installed:
    1. disconnect & reconnect battery
    2. turn key on without starting
    3. slowly push the pedal to full throttle and return
This teaches the computer the throw of the pedal, idle and full throttle voltages
This assumes however that everything else is working properly.

Typical Dodge truck – you can recognize them by the rust around the wheel-wells. My Dodge truck is the only truck owned that had rusted out wheel-wells, a rusted out driveshaft, and a rusted out oil pan.

    👍👍👍👍👍

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fred Hart says:

Good job, I have a 2005 dodge diesel so I feel for the customer,
Problem you fixed a old farm truck with a plastic tie, a farm truck should have been fixed with bailing wire, ha, ha!

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gordon says:

My early 98 2500 is up to 485,000. The best truck I have ever owned.

    Slick fix on the connector

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Buglioli says:

over easy eggs! That's how I like them, but I usually can't get any until I can fix the car and drive to Waffle House.😖

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Harrison says:

Seen that so often its not funny the sad part is that It was a dealership owner that would just fix the tail n turn lights when there were issues far more important that needed addressing so I know how it sometimes can be. Then and again the same guy would bring in a money pit and want it repaired and road worthy with no limit to makeing it right.

i see your problem with the scan tools but it sure makes it hard to decide what to buy as a home repair guy are there no standards for scan tools ?

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gary Waisner says:

Great info on diagnosis. You always do great diagnosis. On this I agree with customer, fix the truck. I believe customer felt confident you are the real deal. Honest and specific about what problems were. You didn't waffle on what needed to be fixed. Confident mechanic equales confident customer.

That heap wouldn't be on the road in England. Serious mot failure.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Electric says:

It's a Chrysler product probably the lowest quality maker of American cars. You'll always have business from Chrysler products. You could have also put a small bead of Permantex Black Silicone on that socket instead of the zip tie to hold it in place.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Gomm says:

Sod the diagnostics, let's hear it for Mrs O! Best wife ever.

For the price of those couple tie rods on the old inverted y, you can upgrade it to the newer T style steering.. Replace the track bar bushings as well..

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brandon Link says:

Sounds like my 3 series, for a while I had a car trophy (see dealer), brake service message, brake error light, coolant message, oil level message, seatbelt error light, an SRS warning light, and if I push it I can get an engine service message.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bruno says:

I apologize for the English errors, as I am using the google translator.

I'm having problems with the gear selector, for example: when I put [P] the indicator on the mark panel that is in [R].

Another more complicated defect, when the truck is at + – 50 km / h at exactly 1500 RPM in 3rd gear, it goes back to 2nd without any need, now this problem can be related to the first problem mentioned above?

Note the mechanic passed the scanner and in 3 graphics presented by the scanner, the RPM and torque behaved like this:

    grafico1: 750RPM

    grafico2: 790RPM

    grafico3: 770RPM

on the panel the RPM is normal. The torque is always oscillating on the scanner

obs. last month I changed the master kit, changed the solenoids, governor sensor, changed the oil etc … all the American Mopar components, and even then the problem persists.

    Top notch mechanic

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kevin Berg says:

Those are the best kind of customer, people who know what a dollar is worth and don't just throw it away on a new vehicle every time their old one needs fixed.

FWIW, these trucks still have the same failures when they are equipped to mall cruiser status like they usually are around here in the PNW (huge/useless lift, huge/useless tires). Even without the rust, the front end still falls out. Or even when they are stock really. I used to work for the state motor pool and they had a bunch of 2500s (with the Hemi) and they would all have the same issues, especially the front axle u-joints seizing up and making the steering bind.

    It's a Dodge, wiring problems!🤣

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kevin B says:

Oh, brings back memories when I worked in a car dealership quoting for prices, and they always were like "how do you justify this"? Really? How do you let it get this bad instead — that is the bigger question.

I am a heavy equipment tech and a coworker is working an aerial boom that requires annual inspection. He has spent probably 12 – 14 hours on it just finding problems and trying to diagnose them to give the customer a quote. so far he is at like 40 + hours for repair.

Well he gave you a valid reason for fixing it. $60,000 for a new one versus 3000 in Parts Plus your labor. It's a bargain for beating up on the farm. Great Diagnostics as usual. When you started on the taillights I started thinking how it's a ground fault! You're training me well! I'll be honest I slept my troubleshooting skills Slide the last few years. And want to work on things I haven't paid attention as well as I could to details. Watching your videos have motivated me to do a better job when I'm doing my little things around the house and improved my troubleshooting skills. At least it's getting him back to where they were. In my field main frames, I could give you a run for your money and then some. To be honest with you if I got you as a young man your first computer job in a Mainframe environment yeah, I give you six months and you would be kicking ass. I've trained some really dull sporks over the years and got them for they could at least operate the system somewhat competently. You would be breaking it down like I could very easily. You would develop a feel for how a systems running very quickly. where the hell were you when I was training people for Mainframe environments? Probably running around on your bicycle are your skateboard or running around on the farm making a pain in the butt of yourself.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DWC says:

That model year for Cummins (04-06) were the high output pre-emission 5.9l (I have one). You can't get them anymore. The farmer probably knows this, as well as the bazillion dollars that the new truck cost. Having you toss $3,000 worth of parts in it with ca. 140,000 miles in it is really nothing compared with his alternatives (if he wishes to stay in a diesel).

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gym says:

You made that thing look like an etchiscetch. I found that funny for some reason.
