In this video I show how I replace the front axle u-joints and hub assemblies on a 2011 Ram 2500 with a 6.7. This is pretty much the same process on the older solid axle 1/2 tons too.

My truck lost the passenger side wheel bearings on the Nevada/Utah line and i live in Elmore, Ohio on Lake Erie while on a wheeling trip. 2012 Ram 2500 6.7 Long Horn Laramie 4×4 with 148k. That cost me nearly 3k!!! It was a Sunday and i was hauling my Jeep to Northern California to The Rubicon Trail so i needed to have my trailer towed to their shop as well and since it was a casino town, the parts was a 2 hour each way trip… that one hurt and they were fine when i left my house! Thankfully i bought my truck in Atlanta, Georgia and it stays in my heated shop… no rust!

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Michael Cuff says:

My puller broke the bearing in half. Great fun!

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gregarious Antithesis says:

44k miles and needs new wheel bearings, WTF

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Metalworks Boilers says:

Things should not be that difficult to repair/replace. I’m a boilermaker and we also deal with insanity and over engineering on simple things. Whenever you have to move things to a press and beat the hell out of it, it’ll be hard, expensive and probably need to be done again soon. So it’s futile. We as consumers have done a horrible job at demanding better working trucks for the money they charge us.
This job should be a two hour job done on the driveway.
    Just saying.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gravel Billy One says:

On the axle u joints i use a torch to cut out the cross. Cleans up the oil. Heats the yoke up a bit for reinstall as it grows a bit. No deformation of the yoke as when I use the press. Is this a bad method ?

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Harrison says:

I used my ballpoint press on mine most times on the tailgate of the truck

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars justin case says:

Why do they never put grease nipples on these universal joints ? yeah dumb question right

I’ve owned several Dodge diesels, done lots of front wheel u joints. I’ve had the best luck with longevity with the Spicer non greaseable ones. Just my 2cents.

I'm pretty sure a good air impact would get those out much easier.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars InThe MaZe says:

Sir I was hoping you could give me some advice. I bought a 2005 Dodge Ram, as I'm disabled and just needed a get around truck.
Anyhow I have a bad click coming from the front left (driver side) wheel housing area only when in two wheel drive, not when in 4 wheel.
Had a friend look at it and he said someone put in a lift kit. They didn't change anything else. So shafts are to short , and stripped at ends.
My question is if I have it in two wheel drive is the actuator not completely disengagng causing left drive to spin.
If I disengage the electrics to the actuator, would the fork completely move towards the deferential, and completely disengage?

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars hand to hand combat says:

Wow those roads will kill a new rig! Thanks for the vid.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jack says:

I have an 08 Ram 2500 automatic with Cummins. have everything off but have a couple questions. should I have the truck in 4 wheel drive or does it not matter? working on drivers side and axle doesn't want to come out. before I put some force on it want to be sure I'm not missing something. btw, great video.

Try using the tiger tool. I love it . You can chg a joint without removing the drive shaft in some applications.

  50. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark McCain says:

Do the same disassembly/assembly methods apply to a 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 4×4?
