As requested by my viewers (viewer lol) I am bringing you this 2008 Hemi Dodge Ram 1500 to show you what I discovered to be the cause of the inoperative four wheel drive. In this video I show you how to replace the right output shaft, bearing and seal in the front axle, we get to see how the front disconnect works and we also replace the CV shaft. As always please refer to your shop manual for the proper way to fix your vehicle. Thanks for watching.

Great video. Just to add that a faulty front left speed sensor can also make your 4×4 (flashing light) and cruise control not work on a 08 dodge ram 1500

I like watching all your videos. Top notch info. I have an old Gen2 Dodege 1500 project truck. Keep up the great work. Move to Southeast Texas… Nah the heat is terrible lol.

Just finished, didn't have a lift, driveway. And didn't have enough clear space between the lower bolt and ground. To hit it up and there would be slight tention pushinmg doward from the shock. So, I pulled the shock bolt instead. I'll be doing the passenger next even though doesn't need it. But, when done, In Canada, Ontario Parts Source has offering "Life Warranty" on both parts. That's sweet…. Love that one [Need one of those air tools, not the ratchet, the other tool.

I watched one other video, before watching U. And glad I watched U<<< > Now

My issue is: I just surfed for something as to base on my (sound issue). I took my wheel off, turned the studs which turns the shalf you just pulled out. [I just started hearing a clunk-clunk sound) When turning it slowly, like a skip drop skip sound.

I'm more than greatful for your insight, I'm not a mechanic, but have through my younger years a grease monkey as a kid.

I think I'm going to order too shalfs from Amanzon. I should do noth sides, since it's a 2017 and now it's 2022 so $150.00 each no big deal.

[I had never had issues with 4×4 drive. Just the sound just startered happening.] Not really loud but still ones self can't help but hear it.

Would U know why this sound would just arise? Meaning that your a mechanic is all??

    Thanks ahead. Karl

great video will have to do this on my 2010 truck. typically there is minimal difference in rotation speed where needle bearing is located as the truck goes down the road. looks like operators need to engage the 4 wheel drive sooner to save wear. the spline slop got the best of it . Great Point with the OE or Remanned as the price points are tough But I Hate buying a Problem.
    thank Again

You seem to be a very good mechanic. This video was very nicely done but I don’t think it pertains to my problem. I have a 1999 Ram std cab 4×4. When I try to put it in 4 low it grinds really bad. I’m not sure that it even went into 4 low because when I put the trans in drive the truck didn’t move but the transfer case made the grinding noise. What are your thoughts? It’s got the 5.9 l engine. Keep in mind that back yard mechanics are pros compared to me.

    That's cool

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Mefford says:

I have to do my truck the same way someone didn’t lock the axles on to the half shafts all the way I can see splines sticking out between the axles an the half shafts on both axles an they are wobbling on both sides so I will probably have to replace both sides .thanks for sharing the video it just confirmed my thoughts with my issue on my truck love the channel by the way been watching your channel for a long time couple years anyway appreciate you doing what you do . Thanks again .

this video is perfect, i literally have issue on this exact side on my truck. Where can i purchase that right front output shaft ?

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Adam Warner says:

Glad you posted this video. Just found this on my 2014 Ram during an oil change. Haven't touched much independent suspension front 4×4, glad to see it's not too complicated. I always like to see someone do it before me so I eliminate guess work without access to OEM manuals.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars anthony conlan says:

I'm having an issue with my 2013 1500 ram four-wheel drive light comes on but not engaging so watching this video was very helpful you did a great job explaining everything I'm hoping mines not a big issue like that one was it's in the shop now being worked on I just hope it's something minor that looks like an expensive repair

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars patrick molloy says:

    👍

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars KALTHOFF says:

Same thing just happened to my 2019 Ram. It appeared the problem was the snap ring that should hold the CV axle & output shaft together. The ring worn down alot & the axle disengaged from the output shaft allowing the splines to be lose & strip out.

Did you ever find a cause for this in any of these that you have repaired?

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars LYLE Jelley says:

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TheCaperfish says:

get the post loc , you don't want to do this ,, decreased fuel milage cause yer ring and pinion are always spinning , front drive shaft always spinning so more ujoints to replace and if a U joint ever lets go doing 60 major carnage WILL happen bye bye T case and oil pan , more vibrations while driving , heavier steering etc , and with posi loc ya get 2WD low best thing ever to manoeuvre trailers , no clutch slipping backing up etc. I have 2 trucks 98 with CAD and 02 with no CAD , would rather CAD axle anyday , way more practical. unless yer sled pulling and was a stronger axle

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Noson Fontenot says:

thanks for pulling the actuator and the class! I have a chevy 4wd and have always wondered how they work. Excellent vid.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steve Bastin says:

Last year all done did you see you when you turned it on and that bearing was loose just kidding I think you’re still great mechanic

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steve Bastin says:

You lost my confidence you are a factory shaft it comes with the note why are you saying that new note doesn’t work it’s a lock nut you know when to use them you can’t reuse them and you refused that net I don’t know man explain to me if you would please

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steve Bastin says:

I think you’re terrific the last thing I wanna do is give you any negative but you’re not a metallurgist as far as looking at a bearing you cannot tell the fact that he had any problems whatsoever going on that shaft means it is not to tolerance and it will fail you’re talking 1020 30,000 miles that customer will put on that truck in no time at all that bearing will fail in less than 10,000 miles change it it’s cheap and you’re already there you know better come on

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars griff Hall says:

    just bought a 2008 ram, 4.7l
this needs to be done to mine.
    Great video E.O!!!

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kerry Werner says:

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 4×4 diesel with and automatic transmission. My 4×4 light will not light up on the dash cluster. If I put my truck in neutral I can get it to light up 4×4 in low, but it’s actually in neutral on the transfer case? I just changed the transfer case sensor…no luck, even took the wiring outta the wire loom and checked the wires, seen a wire kinda smashed so I cut that section out and used a butt connector to get it back together….any thoughts? Thank I’m advanced

    Nice vid

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Keith Morrison says:

i say the more you live the more you learn, this is new for me but i,m going to ask one question. can this be the cause of my 2010 ram stuck in 4wlo and wont budge.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars mike marshall says:

You skipped over the cause of the axle damage. The lock ring seems to be missing from the stub shaft, this would allow the CV joint to slide in and out causing taper wear. Keep up the great video content.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars michael depow says:

I have an 04 1500 and just did new hubs and upper control arms. I'm still feeling a grinding when going 30+ on every curve in the road. I'm thinking it's the CV axle. I did drive on bad hubs and control arms for 200+ miles. Any thoughts, anyone….??

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Marshall says:
