In this video I have a look at a 2000 Ram 1500 5.9L that was already at another shop and they billed the customer $325 and never fixed it!! I don't know about you but I'd be a little upset. -Enjoy!

My actuator works but the little plastic arm kept coming out of the gear that turns the blend doors ! Very frustrating

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars cliff corbitt says:

Sounds like your average 1998 Dodge ram 1500 with the chipping decaying dashboard as well drinking a gallon every 5 MI with a 5.2 L engine in it that hasn't been kept up since 200,000 miles ago yeah that kind of sounds about like something I've seen the other day with no AC in windows won't go up or down on the passenger side because the motor is locking up.

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dick Wolf says:

Part of the problem is the manufacturer keeps adding redundancy sensors to keep the consumer stupid and confused when a light comes on the dashboard and they just throw money at it. That in turn allows your parts shops to pick up the scraps with their obd 2 tester to save the day until the cheapest way out leads back to a service station or the dealer. Almost a circle of life with the shade tree shops open up as the jackals preying on scraps. In the end the real shops step up and show who the king of the jungle is.

Between you and Rainman Ray, y'all knock down the keep it simple stupid on the YouTube's imo.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Danny Linc says:

See, this is a tech approaching defining the problem he can verify and getting the diagnosis time authorized according to the guidelines of his state.
When a shop doesn't do that there's guesses and expectations all around.
If you instead act like it's mysterious and magical without the diag. ?
You write up, replace keniffelling pin.
Or throw a wiper motor at it.
    Or whatever.
The tech is shorted on his time and pay so he prices the likely suspects for you. He throws the parts you said at it quickly and puts it out.
That's not how you fix a car.
And the video gets made about how the other shop must be half tardy.
It sure would be neat if this tech had the technicians notes from the back of the R.O. or a print of them from the previous attempt.
You could get a clear picture of what happens.
I.e coustomer states replace my wiper motor.
Tech notes say, installed requested wiper motor.
    It runs as designed..
    New repair order.
Customer states ever since new wiper motor installed , hear rapid clicking sound persists. But happens only sometimes.
    What went wrong?
Those guys are dumb, that's what.
What if the customer attached a description of his experience that stuck to only the facts to the first repair order?
No magic, you just check according to what the customer wants fixed and he shares how he arrived at his notion or the writers notion to start throwing things at it.
Tech notes for new repair order, attempt to verify clicking rapidly with wipers operating.
    Not acting up.
Suspect timing circuit in wiper governor.
    Price wiper governor.
Need authorization for continuing to verify and running tests on system as required.
    18 minutes was not enough.

Just drill holes in the headliner for a bank of amber illuminated switches for all the accessories. Don’t need AC in NY. Check engine light on? Open hood and check engine didn’t get stolen. Done.

Eric, I really enjoy watching you diagnose vehicular problems. You are a credit to your profession. I feel bad for the customer that he already paid someone $351 and got nothing in exchange. BTW, I think Mrs. O deserves an hour for lunch.

I have the same 5.9L Magnum 2000, although mine is a Doggeban "Van".. Mine will shut off at no warning.. Van won't turn back on, only until I Un-plug Negative Battery cable for 10 minutes.. Then it'll start back up again for the next couple of days.. But, sometimes even the same day it'll still shut down.. I still haven't figured it out yet.. I did have the Tires replaced from Costco.. Of course I still haven't fixed my mystifying Engine shut off problem at when ever it wants to. It's certainty something that I have not been able to see fixed yet..

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Malcolm Ross says:

    Great video thanks.
It is true that people think you can diagnose something for free. It takes time and knowledge at what to look for.
Those people have rocks in their heads!
Loved the comment about Jerry and his rig!

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steven Rice says:

You know you're Mopar man when you let YouTube auto play in the background and when you hear a Mopar crank up and someone says "HEMI Power!" you immediately think "That's no HEMI!!! That's a 5.9l v8 from a late 2000 Dodge!!!"

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars joe sturdivant says:

We have a 04 dodge ram 1500 5.7 when we crank for the first time of the day it says check gages and the only thing not working is the oil gage what would it be

Aliens, they swooped down and performed experiments on the Dodge. Just Ask the other shop.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Mahoney says:

The fix is great, but the real reason we watch you is the methodical way you actually diagnose and fix parts. Never change!

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Bailey says:

Wait what do you mean it’s not free ? We feed the homeless for free we give the homeless a free cell phone for free we even house the homeless for free ? And you don’t repair there car for free ? It’s the American way just ask the man BIDEN . But if you want to protect your self sorry BIDEN want you to give him your guns yup for free . Why have a job BIDEN will feed you for free . Yeah like you I expect to be paid for the work I do . Like your videos good luck .

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars robert Fitzgerald says:

I love the way you diagnosed the problem , but how do you know witch shop knows thier shit ?

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dave says:

Props for the Cool Hand Luke reference. I worked auto parts years ago and hated the "free diagnostic" with a passion. I had to explain to customers all the time that we were a parts store and not a mechanic shop, and that we were merely reading DTCs, with no guarantee it would reveal an issue or all of the issues with their vehicle. I previously worked for a dealership, so I'd go over how much an actual diagnosis could cost, what was involved, and why they would charge as much as they did. Many customers would point to "FREE DIAGNOSTIC" on the window sign and get angry with me for actually informing them. I don't miss checking codes for cheap ass retreads one bit. It did nothing but influence weak minded folks to throw parts at their vehicles, and then proceed to get angry when we wouldn't return parts after they installed them and found it didn't fix it. As if it was our fault, and we misled them. To be fair, many mouth breathing parts jockeys do mislead customers, knowingly and unknowingly, but that wasn't how I rolled. "FREE DIAGNOSTIC" is disingenuous at best and was a massive headache for all of us who worked there. It ain't magic, and there's a reason mechanic shops and parts houses are completely different business. People are cheap and think the world owes them everything for free.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Bill Malec says:

I can only imagine what would happen if a doctor removed a bunch of somethings that wasn't the problem and then just acted like… Hey pay me I just did work. Now get out of here…

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bob Reital says:

I have to admit, I'm in no way, shape, fashion or form a mechanic but, I will say that by watching these videos I have a better understanding of how these problematic are fixed.

I will never claim to be a mechanic but, I thank you for at least showing me things I never knew how to do.

Keep up the fantastic work and ever I need a mechanic on Florida, I'm coming to SMA no matter how far it is.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brandon Sizemore says:

Ill be damned. They got rednecks in New York too.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars LJ's fix all says:

Wikipedia should have your name under honest master tech. Although your gonna say that good 😘 mechanics exist, they're about as rare and elusive as a unicorn, I've learned so much from being able to ride along on diagnosis such as this. With your help in getting better, just can't afford that kind of system. Would love to have the access to the varis or alltell but not in my budget currently

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J K says:

I hope you offered the video link as evidence for the customer to get his money back from the other shop, because whomever they went to was absolute garbage.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JBJ Honez says:

You sure sound like Rainman Ray

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rene D says:
