notice how keyless entry is as much of a hindrance as it is a convenience? Like right there at the end he would have just put the key in the aux position.
Whether it's a pin hole in a cooler line or totally smashed pan if an automatic hydraulic transmission loses a couple quarts of fluid its not going to go. If it's full it's fine, if it's too low to where it doesn't work it's fine, it's the part where it still goes but but intermittently with lower pressures is where things get hurt.
clbcl5 commented below that the chassis trans fluid coating could have been caused by the vehicle being towed. I agree that is a possibility especially if it had been towed some distance at highway speeds since the leak was in the pan, gravity would have allowed the fluid to leak out without needing to be pumped out under pressure with the engine running and the trans operating. Also, this vehicle has been towed at least twice, once to the body shop and then again to Ray's shop. I am not saying this is what happened, but it is possible. When Ray drops the pan in part 2 which came out today, we shall see if it is burned up in there or not. Odds are the vehicle was driven though as most folks would not have checked for a leak.
These 6 spd Aisin VW boxes must be reliable and plentiful. I repaired a road debris damaged Passat not long back and LKQ had a 89k mile unit for $364. If I had taken a 110k mile unit it was $287. The valve body had a broken boss and valve bodies are $700. Easy decision.
The vehicle was not necessarily moving under its own power while the trans was leaking, based on external visual evidence. If there was a steady drip while being towed, the wind would have distributed some of the fluid again the undercarriage. You probably won't know for sure until you open it up. If the pan is full of friction material and metal shavings, then you may have the smoking gun.
I once had a transmission line blow on a 96 olds cutlass and pretty much drained the fluid within about a mile.. Didn't know anything was wrong until I noticed a slight burning smell as I was going up a hill, and about then the rpm's went to the moon and I lost all forward momentum. After the line was repaired and the fluid refilled it drove fine.. Never had an issue again thankfully.
i was flying down a dirt road one time, following a buddy and out from the dirt cloud came a giant Rock!. I did not have time to swerve out of the way so i tried to centre myself on it. BAM lifted my whole car up, i right away hit the key to turn off the engine. pulled over and Glug Glug Glug out pours my trans fluid. ended up a $250 tow bill (Way out in the sticks) and $250 worth of parts…great trip lol
What's with Volkswagen and the inability to get parts. There's few aftermarket parts and the dealerships don't carry much. I've been waiting for a week for a heater hose assembly for my son-in- law's Volkswagen Passat from the dealership, as their is no aftermarket part.
When conducting a inspection where there could be legal issues involved its best to keep your comments to yourself and simple comply with what the notes was asking. YOU could end up loosing days of work and get tied up in the court systems for your "professional" comments.
Clean up the wounded area with brake cleaner, apply some gorilla tape, add fluid to fill level, see if car will drive. If it does return and change out pan with a new one if not your only out the cost of the fluid.
if the trans lives ill be Shocked. then again I've seen some neat crap working on vws. lady ran her tsi out of oil… no metal shavings in filter or pan….. refilled and it is running to this day..
there making trans so weak now beening run low of fluid one time kills them what junk i had a 350 with 700r4 run that thing dry all time it lecked so bad fill it up keep driving it out lasted the engine then was rebuld and sold
Could the trans fluid had run to the back of the car when it was lifted by the tow truck?
Simple don't drive drunk
And our roads are so great it's filled with garbage and debris…rah rah rah
They drive after hitting something, and drive and destroy trans, then blame the car….this country is filled with morons on the roads
fresh drips, that's the name of my dog

Ray, How do you know they weren't out in the middle of nowhere at night. I probably would of driven it as I could as well.
Damn, some reason the close up cam shots under the car made me claustrophobic. Weird
here we go again, Ray is a Physic and can tell you all things! Clown
Driver says: "Hey did we hot something?" Passenger: "Nahhh just keep going". Can't fix stupid.
Self lubricating via stupidity

My son did this to his 2005 Chevy Malibu. New pan, filter, oil he's still driving it.
I want to see what happened to this thing lol ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Ok
Itโs an internal undercoating system.

Fer sure it was a woman
Ya think
Skidplate is $200 -$300 and will save you from oil pan and transmission pan damage.

Then replace as needed mentality.

Well, its a very jetty, not a great car

The look of the dent in the pan could be from slipping off a jack while they were doing their own work.
Hmmm, the SLCS in action.
Iโm sure they know that they hit SOMETHING!! If it was totally up to me, I would never just refill it with a new pan an ship it!
Uh, if they don't leave the accident scene how can they go home and you get the car?
Driver "Oh no, I didn't drive it. I parked on a hill. A very, very steep hill."
Imagine working in a shop where every car belongs to Florida man
I love your videos!! Do you have any advice on good shops near Tampa fl??
Wow, leaving the scene of an accident with a leak. That's jail time! Lol
Curb hopping… This vw pissant ain't a skateboard!
Ouch…

I'm currently suffering from an elusive evap leak but other than that… yes I am having a fine day!
Looked very dirty, obviously they don't take care of their car.
With that damage drive it or shut off and coast to a stop would be about the same distance, maybe farther coasting.
