You guys use carquest too? Man lately I've been having trouble with carquest parts being out of spec. Like brake pads that too big too fit in the bracket and wheel hub assembly that won't clear the mounting bolts once installed. Or brand new water pump on an engine install that didn't even last 2 weeks before it gave up the ghost. Best one was $90 for a Bosch ignition module no warranty and three days out. Got the same Bosch module from JC Whitney for $10 next day delivery with a one year warranty.

This is one of the best engines that Toyota ever put in a truck. The 20/22R etc pale in comparison to the 2.7. I made a ton of money from 22R engine repairs, and basically nothing on these.
Taco is a GREAT long term pickup. IMHO, takes place of the long loved Ranger of the 80's and 90s. the 2.7 is lackluster in load capability, but does quite well on light load, and well built. the 3.5V6 has a bit more noootz to it at least, and still well built (just carry oil for the blowby cux 3.5DE 😆)
The rubber cam end plugs are not so you can use a ratchet on the timing gear. They are for line boring the cam bearings when the cylinder head was manufactured. –Doozer

I always wondered about those super fast deliveries in case something's missing. Is that like.. same day stuff? Or does that just mean it will take a day or two for stuff to arrive and the car will just sit there?
Toyota and Honda are the only two car brands that i would trust for quality. i think the Japanese really learned a big lesson from losing World War 2 and decided that they would not let the U.S. drive them into despair ever again. and the two most powerful companies in Japan did what no other automotive companies have done to become #1. they build autos for quality. no other manufacturers do that
Engine = motor that move a vehicle around. Motor = engine used on tools (IE electric motor on a drill)
Not all motors are engines, and all engines are motors, *BUT*, using "engine" for an internal combustion engine is easier and faster. And obviously, you don't call a damn electric motor an engine.
Awesome mechanic does a great job on whatever he works on, just like my mechanic! been with him for 20 years.

All I can say is when you have care of someone else's vehicle one must treat it with respect as if it were ones own vehicle, therefore while it was under your care one should use appropriate terminology, being my parts my rocker head etc.

And regarding engine motor debate.
I'm with the 3rd option, all engines are motors but not all motors are engines therefore either terminology in the use to describe the thing that makes your care go vroom vroom.

I just went through this on a 2000 Toyo Taco. And guess what? The FelPro set did NOT come with spark plug gaskets! $35 later at Auto Zone…………

You are correct about the dielectric. When I was a wee young boy first doing plugs and wires on my pickup, I remember Ted, a tall fellow missing his middle finger from a snowmobiling incident that happened while holding the rear of sled up with one arm/hand and the other holding the throttle to "warm up the track". While doing so a track cleat came off and so do his finger. So, when Ted told me make sure you put dielectric grease on the plugs when I asked him the firing order for a '94 Chevy I did. Since then I've not found a carbon track on any spark plugs that have any signs of said lube on. A poor experience for another customer I recall happened only a few thousand miles after doing their own plugs and wires on Taco V6 resulted in a misfire of which I found a carbon track causing a miss. My suggestion was to replace one plug and grease remaining plugs. Customer was not happy, or maybe confused how this could happen. Anyway did such a suggestion and good through several services now….

When I take a vehicle in for a diagnostic they charge a pretty hefty sum – $80+ just to plug in their scan tool and do some very, very basic visual inspection.
This customer wanted an oil change – yet you did a diagnostic without such request. Do you charge for that??

That said it was quite unfortunate the valve lash wasn’t checked while in there.
The valve lash is supposed to be checked every 60k per the maintenance schedule (see 60k & 120k mile inspection items), and to replace any of the 16 valve shims that are out of spec (per the factory service manual).
Most folks wouldn’t expect these engines have mechanical lifters (shim & bucket) and miss this important maintenance item.
I was like: WTF Toyota?!? Mechanical lifters… seriously… Why not hydraulic lifters Toyota… Why…
If never addressed it will eventually burn an exhaust valve, lose compression and misfire.
Replacing a valve requires pulling and dissembling the head and is quite an expensive repair
The original gaskets in the engine imply the lash has never be checked, but it’s still probably not too late to get ahead of it.

I've always wondered this. It seems like the failure rate on sensors is higher than the failure rate of the systems they are sensing. Feels like most automotive repair these days is replacing sensors or recalibrating them.

Though this question is argued with almost the same ferocity as: "is a hot dog a sandwich?". Everyone has an opinion on these….except people who hate cars, and hot dogs…..and those are no kind of people i want around me, lol.
I used to have a 2RZ Tacoma (2.4L, close to the same motor) with an auto, 2WD single cab. Never ever left me stranded. Should've never sold the thing.
