I was all ramped up to say "Ford? GM's been doing that since the 90's the problem is the fools left it to short and the oil still hits the frame."
Then I saw where the oil actually comes down. Ha! Even better.

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gorgane100 says:

I would still take this every day over any VW-group car where removing the filter means that the whole front subchassis is full of oil and it drains for days.

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Guys playing with tools says:

A good engineer wouldn't put the oil filter over the cross member in the first place. Just sayin' 🤣

    Engineers 1 Mechanics 0

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tacit Tacet says:

You are missing the point of the old system.. when everything gets coated in oil you are protecting the underside of the vehicle against corrosion..

The KoneHeads always swear they are superior. GE aerospace engineers can eat my shorts, they are the actual worst.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Glen Wilkening says:

More than likely there is a service writer in multiple locations that are telling the customer is not an oil leak after dripped all over their concrete driveway.

YES, it does have a front and back. Lol

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The Colorado Cultivator says:

The fact that I knew exactly what was going to happen… Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I do to many oil changes lol. That was hilarious though

You thought the battle was over. HA!! As you see they are now trying to crush your moral because you just won’t give up fixing their crap. 🤣 I’m surprised they haven’t made a dipstick serialized with wireless connection that indicates oil level.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Foxler Nightfire says:

Could just put filter on top and have no mess, just like lot of other cars.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Justin Dead Eric says:

No video of removing the drain plug and oil hitting the sway bar and splashing all over?

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rangerstl07 says:

How? How do you screw that up?

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars audvidgeek says:

of course, if the engineers would have designed an oil filter that mounts vertically in the first place, that problem wouldn't even exist!

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fred Walker says:

Just another day at the office ! Honest dirt washes off ! LOL

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars paul sneddon says:

    Looks can be deceiving

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars cpowellrun says:

In my head, the story goes like this. New engineer at Ford: "Look boss, I engineered this so there's a little valley for the oil to run down, making oil changes more convenient, and mechanics happier! I"m doing a good job, yeah?!"
Grizzled, Ford engineering boss, who's been in this war for a looooong time: "<sigh> You've got a lot to learn, son. But, we might still have a move here. Keep that little valley right where it is. Now, add a hole right "here", so the oil can unexpectedly follow a different route! Touché! Your move, mechanics!!"

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rick Chow says:

    Those bastards

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brent Dabler says:

We recebtly bought an expedition and 2 weeks ago I did an oil change on it. I was so impressed with that same thing I had to run inside and bring my wife out to see it!

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Jon Durrett says:

I work at a Ford dealership so I knew exactly what was going to happen. I'm convinced that Ford engineers were the D students. The ones that barely graduated all went to work at ford

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phill McCracken says:

I have an oil spot on my new concrete from the same engineering.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chasing Dragons says:

Dude I sat in engineering classes after graduating from an ASE certified automotive and diesel program and listening to my "fellow engineers" talk about how they couldn't figure out how to change oil on their Toyota was painful. Almost as painful as finding out my classmate destroyed his rear brakes this week driving with the parking brake on.

These people are ok at math but almost nothing else. (With the exception of the engineering tech guys… One of them built a new wiring harness for his Benz and the other for his Mustang's backup camera that Ford engineered too damn short… Those types actually know a thing or two..
The rest? Dear God help us…)

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Sturtevant says:

    😂😂😂😂😂😂

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nigel Cox says:

For a few years, I worked with a guy who'd spent most of his life as a development engineer for a motor manufacturer. He was all theory, and would anguish over repairs for days before attempting the simplest tasks. Several of us had hands-on experience, but he'd still argue with us, then fail doing stuff his way, eventually admitting that our advice worked. Next time, same again. I would not have let him anywhere near my vehicles.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars jean boutin says:

saw that comin mile away Ive done a hundred just like that on multiple different vehicles ,,,look great ,never works like it should

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Spencer Porter says:

Lol I have the same truck. I’m honestly shook that they put the little drain pan/pipe there

    I know I didn't believe you

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ptschafer says:

Did my first oil change on the Ford Edge the other day. Top-mounted canister, just break the canister loose, oil drains straight down into the pan, didn't spill a drop. Then I went underneath to pull the drain plug… plastic oil pan… plastic drain plug… leaking oil before I even touched it. Seriously… plastic oil pan and plug 🙄. Even the dip stick is plastic. Changed the oil on my Lexus the same day, everything is aluminum and steel. Zero mess zero hassle.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dustin Alexander says:

My 08 has something like that, but the execution was sub par. Are they shipping with caster/camber kits yet?

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jon Clark says:

It’s about time. They did something right.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars vwwrenchie says:

    You need Dorman 097-826HP
The Dorman OE Fix Plastic Drain Plug is designed as a solution to prevent oil splashing on chassis components during oil changes for most Ford and Lincoln vehicles. This OE Fix drain plug features a downward-facing drain hole and convenient twist tab for easy, spill-free servicing.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Patrick anderson says:

I had an older Daewoo forklift at the warehouse I was the maintenance tech at. That you had to remove the starter to be able to unthread the oil filter all the way off.

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Free says:

It's a shame all the Chrysler cars based on the K chassis have gotten so old and hard to find, I'd love to have another as a spare. Why?
Because the mechanics won almost every single battle on those cars. I had a handful of 2.2 dodge shadows over the years and having worked on many other cars I can't express the absolute pleasure it was to know that when I popped the hood, I was looking straight down on top of all 4 spark plugs and could literally bend slightly and reach the oil filter from the top. The drain plug was within reach without lifting the car. Just… for maintenance, spectacular.

Until the starter or exhaust needed work. Can't win 'em all; bits had to go somewhere and tucked up between the engine and firewall with the K member in the way was the only place left. Still nowhere near as horrible as changing the heater core in an S-10.

  50. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Patriot70 says:

Always remember, some engineer has to graduate with the lowest GPA, last in their class.
