Why do cats get all the blame, dogs have responsibility too! HA! MEOW ๐Ÿ˜ธ

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Octivian Castle says:

Usually on these nissans its the front cat thats gone the rear gets clogged and gives the symptoms you had here so you remove that but after a while the front melts down and kills the engine so its most likly you replaced the clogged cat but you didn't fix the reason it was clogged

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DJ BOLA says:

How much can someone expect to pay to fix replace the cat?

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Harrison says:

Nice investigating how plugged up the cats can get

Chrysler polara both mufflers were restricted and we had installed new cats 2 of them ol mike romped on it and blew both mufflers wide open

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Harrison says:

Wow very little lite seen in there yeah I bet its gotta be pretty heavy

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Martin Kucic says:

Yes! Some people are oblivious of how their car runs until it quits and wonโ€™t start.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars pospc2 says:

That looked EXACTLY like the cat that was restricted on my GTi.

Nice follow up. One of the advanges of watching older videos you can sometimes find follow up videos right away. Ive been really eating up your vodeos over the last month. You're like a perfect pair with my Scanner Danner watching. Just wanted to say thanks and you're a real credit to your profession.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars OWL says:

I've heard these things can be cleaned quite well. 8 hours in mineral spirits and 8 hours in Tide with water. Then rinse, blow out, and dry in low heat. Then just weld it back on. The catalyst is not effected by detergent or solvent.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Chiodetti says:

I've seen them totally block the outlet of the cat. Those were fun to (try) to drive! I'm waiting to see how many cats go bad with direct injection and turbocharged or supercharged engines. Should be fun!

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ron Townsend says:

What does antifreeze do to them, have you seen that??

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eric Hoffer says:

Did you try running a gallon of lacquer thinner through the car first? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ronald de Rooij says:

That cat could have been saved by specialised company ashing the carbon and blowing it out. After that, it is as good as new (and much cheaper than a new cat).

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeremy G says:

I've found it a couple times on the supercharged motors and usually find that there running 87 Octane gas which causes the dirty burn off and the cat to plug up

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars GNX157 says:

Throw back to some of the early years when we had to repair/rebuild GM cats, the flat ones where you removed them and popped the plug and dumped out the old pellets and poured in new ones and reinstalled. How many here did that?

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Scott Yakoubian says:

    Thank you for following up!

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eric Bennett says:

I was hoping you would have cut that cat open lengthwise ๐Ÿ˜‰

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars roadstar499 says:

Thats amazing that reduced 80% of the motors performance…How many miles are on that cat? thax….I took out my o2 sensor on 4.3 blazer today and started the motor and it reved smooth and powerfully… i most definitly have a clogged cat also… with 02 in it barely runs at all about 20% power….thax for sharing

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Willie Gillie says:

That cat was plugged!! I seen a guy in town one time hammering that cone out of his converter with a long screw driver. Bang bang boom, Pieces falling out everywhere. A little too obvious what was going on there.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Duncan Mac says:

Forget what I said in the diag. vid. Thanks for the video. That's funny, grandma with a super charged Buick. I can see her now doing hole shots from light to light….

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars darryl mcleman says:

Can you get a hint of plugged exhaust by hand over tailpipe with motor running?

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gregory Birulkin says:

How long was the air filter being bypassed? That's where the debris came from.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Ferguson says:

The original engine was blowing a lot of oil through the exhaust or running very rich.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars catman995 says:

I have seen 3 Buicks with the 3.1 and 3.8 bad cats around 100k miles. maybe its something to do with the intake gaskets causing oil burning issues.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Adam Trombino says:

I've only been burned 1 time on both a cat and muffler being plugged. The cat broke loose, and some of it got into the transverse muffler. Of course you could suspect all day, but there was no way of knowing w/o replacing the cat and front pipe assembly 1st. I found that out after the fact… In other words, that car needed an entire new system front to rear, and unfortunately, it was a tough sell…. ( In case you're wondering, it was on a 02 Camaro w the 3.8. )

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The Dugan 1 says:

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Danne Hughes says:

Pretty nice patch on the exhaust! Have done that with gas looks like I need might! thanks!

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars scoot meme says:

back in the 80's i used to take the cat off and gut it,,, a hammer and a steel rod and break apart the honey comb and good to go,,,, i bet she drives around town all the time,,, i make sure i take my truck for along drive at least once a month to keep everything cleared out

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gabriel Maldonado says:

Just a little info on this… These GM cats, with the double wall tubing in front of it, have an issue where the insulation between the two tubes breaks down and clogs the cat. Seems like there's no way of preventing this from happening.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Johnny Massengill says:

    what…no brake clean? ….LOL

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andy Thomas says:

Hey Eric thanks again for doing these vids for guys like me trying to learn. One question – would the downstream o2 sensor give you any indication for this? Maybe even something you could use for this diagnosis? Thanks.
