Top tip. Always tap the heads of bolt/studs you want to release in aluminum. Steel makes room in the aluminum and helps penetrating oil.

Bumped a curb parking ice and it knocked the steering wheel out of alignment. Took it to the shop and they must have removed the steering linkage bolt because they put it in backwards and it worked it’s way out. Lost steering completely. Thank god it happened in a big open parking lot.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Antonio Claudio Michael says:

That manifold came out pretty easy only 2 broken studs not bad @Rainman Ray's Repairs

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Kourelis says:

Hi Ray, I always find it interesting how we use the words nuts and bolts interchangeably. We say bolts when we want to say nuts and vice versa. I wonder why that is? Sorry for the ramble, it just fascinates me how many people do that.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Antonio Claudio Michael says:

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars wakcedout says:

I like shops that will let me supply the parts I need replaced. Lets me find a good price and usually good price for goos brand, while I still get to have the part properly installed.

Have one near me like that and the labor rate is always reasonable and the owner gives good recommendations on brands to buy. Got moog control arms on his suggestion and got them cheaper online than parts stores sold them for.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Randy Mack says:

If you would have left it over night to cool off you don't get burned, but you might have broke half of the bolts!
    Murphy's law and I are old enemies…

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ahoy there mate says:

You just answered my question Ray some stupid engineer in his idiotic reason put fluid tubes next to the exhaust probably it was 5 bucks cheaper than doing a proper job

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Roy says:

Hi Ray, could you provide an amazon link to the finger cleaner heads, I've searched and can't find them, I really need these in my tool box, thanks

Another awesome job. I learn every time I watch you. Couldn't figure out why you didn't disconnect that wire and just worked around it

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Papa Toms Thoughts says:

Are you not concerned about getting weld slag into exhaust chambers and causing damage to engine?

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ahoy there mate says:

Ray why is there a heat shield on the exhaust ??? there would be shit loads of air blowing over it

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andrew C. says:

Hi Ray, how are you? Anyway I seriously love your videos! You are an amazing mechanic! & funny too! I learn a lot from your videos & love them!, It's always hilarious when that's phone rings & you take out of your time just to say doo-doo dee-doo-doo & that cracks me up & as well when you ask your fellow workers to do it too! Lol, I was wondering if you have or can make a short fun compilation of your "doo doo dee doo doo's"? Please? Lol thanks & keep up the good awesome work that everyone loves watching & you take care! 😃

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Davies says:

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Benny Boy says:

Those oem manifolds probably flow just as well as the shorty's, customers choice but I seen oem manifolds from the 90s flowing as good as most shorties. Plus even mid length and long tubes only make noticeable change at high rpm so unless you're racing they don't help that much. You'll start to lose significant low end power with long tubes and race manifolds.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Beta Hours says:

Hey rainman would you make a video explaining the pros of cons of flat rate in your experience. Its for people thinking about starting a career in the auto industry

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tony Weir says:

A reverse drill bit would have taken that stud out easily, no mess either.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TankGuy3 says:

Did you work at a different shop a year ago? I watched an older video of yours, and it didn't look like the same area, the stall looked different, and your lift was a different color. Not to mention the Topdon scanner.

EDIT: Also the lack of doodley-doo's.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Buckley says:

Man, that nut welding section on the broken stud had me thinking that the whole thing would be a failure. I was so happy when it worked, and the stud came out! I know than it doesn't always work out that easily.

Word to the wise, if you're going to put headers on hemi, do it before 60,000 miles…

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars PA OUTDOORSMAN says:

I had this exact problem with my 2012 so I went in to do the work. when I backed out one of bolts, there was Teflon tape on the bolt I backed the bolt all the way out, come to find out the person before me I guess had a shop or they tried to do it them selfves and drill into the coolant jacket and the Teflon tape was keeping the coolant from leaking out. so I had to replace the passanger side cylinder head. good thing rams are push rods because if they weren't I wouldnt have been able to do it my self. because I wouldn't have enough confidence to mess with timing.

  65. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Michel says:

You put a straight edge on those manifolds?

  66. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jonathan Moody says:

Your a great mechanic Ray. If you ever have a broken bolt down inside the head there's a stick rod by cronatron 3330 that weld down in side of bolt hole and won't stick to wall just broken bolt. Just build it up to washer then weld nut to washer

  67. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chase Feller says:

Had this issue on my 09 ram 1500 on both sides at about 90,000 miles. Thank god for lifetime powertrain warranty. Covered the replacement of the studs.

  80. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars onebaddj says:

I had to do the same job. All 4 rear snapped off flush in the heads on my 2500 4×4. Nice to see we ran into the same issues. I started with an oil change and found my rattle that was driving me crazy. Yeap still get made fun of cause it took me 2 weeks total to fix it. I drilled mine out. Left hand bits and easy outs. Slow and steady. My hands dont work well either so took longer. Was fun though. Love my truck.

  83. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars john Dingo-Fox says:

Sadly they all do this that engine shakes so much in the engine compartment it pretty much snaps off bolts on the exhaust manifold it's a horrible design flaw
