Ray. Look at the bright side.. at least it's transmission fluid purge and not a worn, cracked and duct taped septic pump hose. Which in that case guaranteed to close out the feeling and smelling like cr@p.
It's never a wasted unproductive day for us. Nice collection Ray.
Why is the rpm guage so low on rpms while driving?
I feel your pain 🤦♂️ , I was shattered and checked the generator oil level that powers my caravan whilst it was running and I was wearing my Jim jams . Removed the level plug and got covered from head to foot in hot oil 😵💫 . Not happy , my good lady could not contain her delight in seeing me looking like a dipstick . Not my greatest day 😂
Have a FANTASTIC weekend, stay safe Brother
You mentioned having a S-10 blazer. My dad had a 1989 S-10. It's in immaculate condition and had Edelbrock headers and other upgrades. I want to upload photos to show but don't know how. Anyone please help.
47 days ago my 2013 Chrysler 300C with 105K miles blew its trans. It's still dead – on a lift at the Chrysler dealer.
In case someone else is in a similar situation, Chrysler/ZF transmissions are a nightmare to deal with. Many trans shops won't touch the ZF 8 speed. Dealers can only touch a few parts on them. New transmissions aren't available. First repair estimate guess was $2,100. New fluid/filter/pan/valve body. Failed repair. New transmission estimate was $6,400. Unavailable with no ETA. They finally recommended what I originally wanted – replace the transmission entirely. $2,200. Still waiting.
Asked them about a seemingly minor electrical issue with my fuse box. $3,000. New wire harness required as it's hard wired to the rear fuse box. Have to rip out all of my interior.
FYI Chrysler's recommended service interval for the transmission (100,000/Lifetime) is nonsense. ZF recommends service at 50,000.
I'm sure that OEM seal in the trans is better than the Autozone one that went in there.
Us both Ray…Got my 84 Blazer with a small block in high school…Still have it
sounds like a stem left in the tire
and the leaf springs are a bit floppy
Curious to know if and when the trans fluid was changed that it could be the wrong fluid that was used???
Hey Ray set a timer when you do some of these jobs please. Really enjoy the videos
Hello! I worried when the camera "saw" one of the tranny fluid tubes start disconnecting from the pump. I'm sorry you did not spot that too to avoid the mess.
That thing gets the same MPG as my Jeep.
What do car manufacturers have against dip sticks for auto transmissions? A classic example of fixing something that is not broke. What am I missing? What problem does this process solve? Somewhere somehow I'm thinking this saves them a nickel.
On that S10…hope the guy got squared away…tires not good…I've got a bad vibe at fwy speeds on my 99 Rav4 FWD…I'm guessing its a hub as it squeaks and i feel the vibe at my feet and legs not at the steering wheel.
As for that trans fluid…if that were mine i would get super creative and make a dipstick tube for it…that crap you went through is for the birds!! Nobody needs an oil bath🙂 Another great video…thanks as always Ray…your efforts are always appreciated by me:-)
I just started working on cars mostly cause my uncle.owns his own shop an blessed me….but I've learned more from watching your videos then anything.
Appreciate 🙏 your sharing of knowledge!
I can smell the brake clean through my phone screen, i love it! 😂
Did the customer say to use fram or is that the normal band y’all use there ? Ive heard bad things about them
You really need to tone down the audio on the seatbelt tone alarm. Much too loud and annoying. I turned down the volume twice and the third time I was about ready to call it and just skip.
Bet they charged for lowering the exhaust too
Dealer ship don't even replace that seal
Ray, when you had the transmission pan and filter out of the vehicle you could have checked to see if the bolts in the value body are tight and torqued to spec? Quick and easy job.
i always hated "piece work " hourly best now days . so many custemers in the past i delt with were ripped of by money graber , replacemet mechanics…
When you drained it from the standpipe you said 2.5 quarts came out. So would'nt filling it to the top of the standpipe be 2.5 qaurts shy?? I know the pop up said spec was 3.2 or whatever. Just seems off somehow, was it over filled??
If I have even learned anything from rays videos it’s never by a gm car. 👎🏻💩
Watching the Video. Ray shows off his transpump fluid thingy. Man that lower tube looks hella SUS. I would be amazed if it stays on. After the 1st few pumps, How is it holding on!@.
Cut to Ray after he made a huge mess lol.
Hey ray I need to ask you a question vip
Fyi,….if your going to a mechanic DO NOT clear any codes!
As you started pumping fluid into the trans I said that hose is going to come off, it is half way off now. Guess you didn't hear me. Thanks for sharing.
It was neat to see a transmission with a drain plug. All of the ones I've seen and worked on had to have most of the pan bolts removed and then the pan allowed to tilt down and drain the fluid.
I seen thr hose crooked on the pump. I said something, but don't think you heard me ray..
Ray, how many cans of Brake Clean do you go through in an average week? Changing filter and fluid while on my back with the truck 2 feet above me is a lot more exciting on my 2003 S-10!😀
Dam yea two cans of brake cleaner 😂😂😂😂
In california breaks, signals and brains are optional equipment.
How come you took out 2-1/2 qts of fluid over the top of the stand pipe, but you only put in to the top of the pipe?
either shave the tire or replace it (replace it )
Ray, I need the name of that parts cleaner you use. I"ma go buy stock in that company,
Trans fluid on your junk, huh? Giggity…
Some S-10,s have a two piece drive shaft and the center wobbles on that rubber crap
Is the tach working?
How come you didn't clean out the pan?
At least it has a trans fluid indicator (dip stick)
Everyone search “F165” channel. He explains multiple times about dropping the pan and changing the filter. Great mechanic he is.
Did you find what was causing the grinding while braking? Maybe take the tire off and have a look at the rotor, wheel bearing and brake hardware?
You mean the Typhoon Blazer? Friend had just the 4.3 Vortec in his Blazer and we raced one on the Hwy (circa 1999….). It was quick.
The leaf spring on that Chevy is fked
We used to have a 20ltr drum with a pump & hose attached to it every time you pushed the plunger down it put 1ltr of fluid in the transmision all you needed to know how much the transmission held & pump the required amount in by counting the times the plunger was depressed easy no mess.
You said the transmission fluid smelled ok but did it taste alright, because you didnt say?
“Did you know that wherever you go, there you are?”
I bust out laughing 😂😂😂😂
Got to get yourself a squeegee pump also known as Randolph or peristaltic pump. All you got to worry about is making sure you got the tubing routed the right way and you're good to go!
I've done that d7de at Napa said red oil huh I new it was problematic
I don’t understand. If it drains to the proper level at the stand pipe. You drained out over 2 quarts. Was it over full? Thanks
I love it here still a shade tree mechanic but I love thus stuff
Thank you for sharing all your videos your knowledge your Your techniques and most of all your honesty I very much enjoy watching your videos and listening to all the click jokes
Thanks for the vids Ray! Decided I have the confidence (along with assistive help from my roommate that actually works on cars for a living) to give my wheel bearings a replacement on a 95 nissan pickup.
My uncle with his 09 GMC sierra, that thing man, had a code for the fuel pump control module that lives above the spare tire, the thing fine still, but the replacement part was like 2 months out, we I let him use my Micro Mechanic to reset the computer so he could use the 4wd, any light the comes on, it disables 4wd, it so dumb, o2 sensor, no 4wd and no remote start, come on GM. Sometimes you have to live with the check engine light for a while, no reason to disable 4wd because a o2 sensor is going bad..
Is it just me, or is that engine making noises that it definitely shouldn't? /Rattling and grinding
When you now the motor and transmission are trying to divorce because they are not happy anymore together
Always put on neck brace before testing transmission.
Don't buy Consumer Cellular goods or services!
The drain plug on that last truck wasn't even in the lowest part of the pan! Now I see you didn't drain from actual plug.
Good ol jasper junk
Damn! I got that DOO DEE DOO DEE DOO in my brain and can't get it out.
Dude…hope you have a better Monday .
Squirting brake clean, hand pump, leaking tranny.
I've got to clear my history again?!!!
I had the check engine light come on when out of town on a Sunday. I swung by a local parts place and had them scan it. It was just a heated O2 sensor failing to heat. Once the exhaust temperature is up to normal the sensor can work properly, just not with a cold engine. Maybe I was polluting a bit extra on startup. I elected to clear the code for the drive home in case something else went wrong I'd want to know it. Once I got home I had my mechanic replace the sensor.
Love the background music!
Why not just remove the stand pipe plug first then fill the tyranny until it runs out the standpipe?
You could have just sprayed those shorts with brake clean. You would have been moving faster after that!
did peter leave his tablet in a car?
with the code clearing i did it once without repair since the code was something that could be intermittent, the CEL kept coming back and disappearing before it stayed on, assuming based on the codes, a harness or clip was yanked on and has sketchy connections now
i have a special place in my back yard for s10,s..200 ft deep hole..nah, there all good, just prefer 4x4rs..older the better..
That S10 has some very special non OEM fog/driving lights. They may have been taken from a 57 Chevy Bel-Air or from JC Whitney. 😂
where is the money shot??
Ray …if you need a shower, there is better stuff to use than tranny fluid … just being helpful 🤣
Crappy Cooper tires. Shocker.
Cadillac trans oil was not good. Needed a service
Who pays for all the brake clean he wastes?
Flywheel problem
Where are you at. I would definitely use you if you are near Dallas
Most of those plastic straw things require overflow at a specific trans temp. Whoever thought of this was a jerk to send people back to the dealer instead of just having a dipstick. When I do it at home I measure what comes out and put that much back in. That will do. If you have to, you can measure the temp with an infared thermometer but you are supposed to use a scanner.
Dual wield shiny spray
Lol. Always 2 can it to clean it. 2 directions and done with leftovers. Nice bro.
Why not leave the plug out and stop when it leaks?
Sorry about the bad day!
Hi Ray, i have a question for ya. When dealing with an oil change, which would you say is more important. Getting the oil change by the date or by the mileage? I never make the mileage by the date recommended.
You should leave the plug off the standpipe that way when you are filling the tranny you will know when the transmission is at the correct level.
Happy Friday Ray , thanks for not stopping with the first owner refuses repairs and you ended up having another short and then you found one that could be completed making for a better video !
Not your day Ray.
You could have got pulled over in a customers car, has that ever happened??
How does the music in your shop go from Lil Troy to Hank Williams JR lol
