bought my 95 Maxima in may of that year. still my daily driver. AC blows air down to 40F when 95F outside. never been serviced. aint broke so not fixin it.

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alvin Johnson says:

Why didn't you check the evaporator??

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Crazy Corpsman says:

I have a 97 Kia Pregio and couldn't get the AC to work. I was at the point of replacing the condensers (it has 2) and my nephew came up with a bright idea that worked. We installed an extra fan with a toggle switch just for the condensers. Now the condensers are happy and cool and the AC is cold which makes life in the Philippines much more pleasant.

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nick Bochanesky says:

Why don't you do a soapy water test with a full nitrogen charge to make sure?

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hugh says:

Not a pro here but I bought a refrigerent 'sniffer' that found an otherwise invisible leak in the evaporater. Beeping like crazy at the air outlets and the condensate tube. Good videos. Thanks.

I live in Washington state. My brother is an auto mech in Wichita Falls TX, specializes in AC. I don't usually see him at July 4th gatherings.
Much respect to you guys who do this in 90º plus weather.
If I may be slightly off-color, I believe the term could be phrased as "Sweatin' like a whore in church."

    Definitely the evaporator

    Brother you're one cool mechanic 🤣🤣🤣 I'm sorry I couldn't help myself

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars rhkips says:

I found out the other day that there's a tool that allows you to replace the Schrader valve on a live/charged system. Apparently it's $800+, so more just a novel idea than an actual useful tool.

You remind me so much of one of my former shop foremen. Sharp as a tack, goofy as a drunk giraffe, and a good guy through and through.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars George Ronn says:

As a career HVAC/R professional, I can honestly tell you that if the charge has dissipated, then there is definitely a leak in the system. It could be very well in the Schroeder valves you replaced. One way to confirm that there is no leak is to pull the vacuum and once you reach full vacuum walk away and let it sit for 30 minutes or so. If the vacuum holds, then any leaks have been addressed. If the vacuum starts moving up from 29” mark, then there is either a leak or moisture in the system.

    Hang in there Ray! 😎👍👋

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jordan Zohr says:

I work in the HVAC trade and am wondering why you don't have nitrogen to pressure test the A/C system to leak check?
A pressure test with nitrogen can determine if there is a leak and a trace gas(scrap refrigerant) can be charged into the system to help pin point it with a leak detector. The point I'm getting at is not knowing if there's a leak and then evacuating the system will only pull in air/moisture into the system which ruins the purpose of evacuation if there is a leak.

Ray, there is a tool that allows you to swap out the schraeder valves on a fully charged system. My brother told me about the one he uses on commercial HVAC systems, and I found the automotive AC version on Amazon.

  54. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars WildCard65 says:

There always entertaining. (sorry for my bad English 😂)

  75. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The Cuss says:

I think I would've checked initially for refrigerant leak getting past the service valves/caps. That way one could confirm that the refrigerant leakage came from that, instead of just replacing the service valves and scratching one's head if the new valves fixed it.

  76. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Hahn says:

Question, for Ray or anyone else who can chime in… Does anyone else ever have it where the first time they try a new shop… They're always trying to sell you control arms? I usually get this with chain places like Mavis, Pep Boys or Firestone. I've owned four cars throughout my life so far & roughly half the time when I've taken my car to a shop for the first time, they always try to push getting new control arms. Now, I usually go to another shop later on for a second opinion; most of the time they say they're fine. Just curious if anyone else ever experienced a sort of reoccurring go-to upsell that chain mechanic shops like to try & push?
