I'm not a mechanic, but I can really relate to the first start. It's the exact same thing I get for the first power-on after building a computer (that's what I do).

was glad to see you be generous with the sili-con-carne.. The bigger the gob, the better the job, AMIRITE?

Iโ€™m just as tired as Ray is. I can feel his exhaustion. Been there. Done that. Canโ€™t say I liked it.

Thanks for all the play by play on this and I do admire your skills and the care with which you do your job. I know criticism is the last thing you want to hear after three days on this job. However, I need to point out that was way too much dielectric grease on those coil packs. The dielectric grease, which is an insulator, should make a seal between the boot and the ceramic of the plug.

With that much on the coil packs you risk having some on the connection between the coil pack and the plug top which could lead to misfires and/or shorten the coil pack life due to the increased resistance. It's best to apply a small amount to the inside of the boot so it will help seal the ceramic of the plug with the boot but not make contact with the top of the plug when inserting the coil pack.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dane Martin says:

This is the same type of motor kinda we had in our hughschool shop donated from Ford. I've rebuilt these motors so many times i can't count. I could probably still do it blindfolded even though it was in the early 2000's

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dave K says:

Looks like Ray missed adding silicone at the joints for the passenger side valve cover.

Edit, he just caught the error, glad to see.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars PVTBambi says:

man I woulda swapped out that water pump to while things were easily accessible if I were the customer

You've also passed the threshold of not being able to English as well.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Sutton says:

Unless they are held in with a lower fastening, I would have removed the cover bolts completely as they tend to get caught on stuff and increase the chances of dislodging the gasket.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 1keykneedeep says:

Nice job Ray. Tuff job on that dang 5.4 3v.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bob Smith says:

Guide and tensioner failure. Does Ford still try to sell these engines?

I have a 2002 seabring convertible I'm going to do a timing chain water pump it needs a new timing cover.did you do any videos on this.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars craps champ says:

Me and Pablo's did a Cadillac v 6 didn't need the valve train work he didn't buy intake air handler gaskets.and it ran crappy but the timing chain was done right the first time it had a air leak a new gasket fixed it.we took the radiator out to make it easer.being a car made it easer.and the engine crossmember came out on top.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ben Dover says:

I was thinking it a few moments before you said it – might have been easier to remove the motor to work on it

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Monk says:

What told happen if "someone " changed the phone ringtone? How about "I FEEL GOOD!"?

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Monk says:

Forgetting things is why checklists are important.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Donna Hollingsworth says:

I like that most manufacturers have gone to the rubber valve cover gaskets with a groove in the valve cover in place of the cork gaskets they used way back then.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Charles Savage says:

How may hours on this furd?

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David says:

i would locate that phone ringer and terminate it with a flame thrower. I would never subject my employees to that audio torture day after day. Get portable phones for the sales staff to carry if they are out of the business office. Good grief!

You have the mire of misery still below??

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bob Pegram says:

Ray I had a friend who hated Wheel of Fortune. He called it Wheel of Torure! Sounds a bit like you and the phone. Phone of Torture?

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars otto leeverink says:

right. i had a golf mk3 and the cover bolts did not bottom out how ever the bolts do snap. my luck was that the bolt hole ran all the way trough so we could get the bolt out trough the bottom of the cam shaft clamp.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 1decks Gordo says:

Maybe I missed something, but what was the noise that the engine made when you first started it. Is there another video coming with the job finished?

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Schneider says:

    Cool ! A Milwaukee Hammer ๐Ÿ”จ

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nelson Glass says:

If you weld a nut on the back of your valve tensioner tool, you could use a power driver to speed up the process?

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kevin Martin says:

Just watching you is making my back ache in sympathy๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard S says:

A new water pump should have been installed while you had more space..

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Janos Varga says:

for the boomers this is why manual has no valve time setting instruction nowadays, it's complexity is comparable to a lunar module. Even professionals sweat to do that.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Annathema Anderson says:

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that these engines are junk. No way should an engine need this kind of work prior to 250k miles. Another better idea from Ford. I bought my last one in 2008! And it will be my last one!

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Stabile says:

About a bolt or something, and you say you love your job, good luck

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Stabile says:
