Since this is a Northern Vehicle, I would leave the penetrating oil on Suspension and Plastic Parts…
Why did he want all them replaced if they were OK? Or are some people like, well I've done 100k I need this doing? But if they tell Mr O they want them changed then they get changed. Nice video Mr O, thanks.
Great video as always Eric O @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
What year?
I think I need to replace the front struts in my wife’s 2013 Escape. Replaced sway bar links, tie rod end that was really worn out. Still got a clanking noise. Ford Tech Makaloco has a really good video
I double-nut just to keeo the threads clean.
Seems to me that the guy committed the sin that CarTalk warns against – he self-diagnosed and thought the bad handling was caused by bad shocks/struts. Probably nothing wrong with them and putting the new tie rod ends on would fix all his trouble. Or maybe, as you said, he heard a rattle back there and mistook the loose jack for a bad strut.
If you would have forgotten that bottle of oil that guy would have been all over the internet telling the world how you stole a bottle of oil out of his truck .
nice, even went the extra mile and checked the spare tire pressure, i would buy you a box of coffee and donuts!
Factory double nuts the shocks on those older escappe'
Hey Eric. I'm retired and just beginning to learn auto mechanics the hard way: I got took on a 2011 Tribute that I paid 4K for. I'm now in the process of doing 4K in repairs on it, though I understand I'll never get my money out of the beast. I wish I could say it's been fun. Currently replacing the front struts using your video.. I've already done the front brakes using your video. Thanks so much for the great videos. IMHO your videos are the most useful.
Good man,,, At least check the air in their spare. Tell them that you're not gonna charge them for the air, do that while chuckling. They'll remember the mechanic who went the extra mile!
What's with the air raid siren?
U tak to the stuff company thay will tal u quk struts are the cheapest mode call min roe ar kyp Gabriel thay all say the same thsn loved struts are the cheapest model struts
Neatly Beardless Eric, how strange.
didnt see quart of oil being put back in van. ?. sorry mr o i commented before seeing full video good of you to put back oil.
Eric ! I have an idea. Could that hat of yours be replicated with all that wear and tear. with SMA on it. I would pay 20 to 25 dollars for one maybe 30 if signed. So maybe 50 thousand other viewers want one too?
or sell me that one .
i just got a 2010 escape but i want better clearance. do you think the 2" spacers for the strut will cause long term damage to the drive shafts?
I always take a wire brush whether it’s in a pneumatic tool or hand brush and I clean all the threads really good then spray it with some kind of penetrating oil I always find 97% of the time that works with little effort or extra work to remove the nuts and I have worked on some very rusty cars in my Time
Your relationship is so wholesome. I genuinely love this channel
I love you’re channel and the way you work but can I give you one tip to save youse bloody knuckles?
When unlocking locking pliers, squeeze the release lever towards the adjusting bolt first then the other way if needed. This step releases the spring tension first.
It’s nice to see a really good old school mechanic. I worked in my uncles shop as a kid. I learned a few things watching and eventually working with the mechanics. Anyway, it’s good to see a mechanic who cares about doing the job right. And, Mr. O is a good example of a good example. Keep up the good work. And thank you for putting out good work and quality videos. Have a great day and stay safe…
The dirty plastic was bothering me, then he Sprayed it…lol
You know, I’m 77, your young, you are a special person ,who is very blessed, I think you know it, a beautiful family , great wife, a wonderful busniss in a little town setting, all the business
SMA Brake cleaner
Escapes are real bad for the rear shock towers rusting through, and no one makes a fix for it that I know of !!!
You and Mrs.O haveing a fun little hammer toss
That's good stuff and with ham I'm going to have to get some wild rice and beans with steak cutlets or chunks one of these days
Dude did someone's cat lick milk off you face and made your beard and mustache disappear whoa lol just kidding you do look younger.
For most guys, they will never see a mechanic do this stuff let alone explain it ! So this is real VALUE to regular guys when they have work to be done. To be able to tell the mechanic what you think is wrong and where puts you MUCH higher in their esteem that an ignorant customer ! I hired an experienced 'mobile mechanic' to install 4 struts in my 1999 Corolla (after 20 years!) and watched him do it. Money well-spent and that is a hateful and hard job to do!
Love your videos
He left those tools in the spare well because they a PITA to get out of the plastic cover.
Mocking "torque NAZIs" OK, but shouldn't you tell the typical DIYer with a hand ratchet to lower the vehicle before tightening the shock mount ??? (Yes, I've messed up my first time, don't wanna talk about it lol)
To the DIYer learning, have the vehicle supporting it's own weight before the final tightening of strut mount.
Hey Eric, I'm having trouble with my ball joints, but I guess you probably can't help me there since my troubles are Urologist and Rheumatologist related. I hesitate to mention about my Misfires. 😆
Great videos though!
What a good job you did on that Eric, like it was yours..
Fun as usual!
Always a pleasure having Mrs. O make an appearance !!!
Got it fill up the raisin eat the tire. I take notes.
Your beard!!!!!!
BABYFACE ERIC O!!!
Did you say herpes of the automotive world? Lol
Best Mechanic on YouTube Hands Down
I just recently did work on a escape and learned that the position of the upper strut plate changes caster/camber slightly.
most indipendant shops are run by excellent self employed self taught mechanics . I discovered hydraulic oil and acetone 50/50 mix, quite a while ago. I fill up an empty kitchen surface sprayer bottle . Mechanicing on radio control model helicopters sharpens up anyone's mechanicing skills.
Donuts haha they have to work for there money there not cheap
I want to see and alternator done on the v6 version I have watched several videos of these and they seem to leave me needing more detail
“Is it my mum” 😂😂
