In this video I have a look at a Ford F350 with a 6.0 power stroke that is in very sad shape. By that I mean it had some sort of engine fire the customer neglected to tell me about. All that to the side I did get the vehicle running again but it sure would have been nice to get all the facts haha. -Enjoy!

Don’t know if it’s a manual or automatic tranny. That wire should have went to the clutch or neutral safety switch

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nic A. says:

Its been said that all 6.0 powered trucks come with a fire extinguisher. A smart owner will let the thing burn, but a stupid owner will put out the fire.

    Quiet, action….maybe it's time to get a new car…

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Don R. says:

This Ford was a steaming pile. You have far more patience than I. Between the hacked wires and the mouse/rat infestation it would have been better to “let it burn”.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul DiGiorgio says:

I don't think I would've touched that rat infested piece of sh– never mind put it in my shop you don't know if your going to get burned or bit lol it still was a good job at figuring out how to get it running

Rule number two just because the part is new doesn't mean it's good test it to know it's good

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joseph says:

Sorry, I wouldn't allow a Ford into my shop. ..hehe Seriously, did you recheck the green wire after installing the new ign switch?

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Sampson says:

"What a Toilet" — LOL, I would of not touched that had I known it had some fire issues, just looking at that spaghetti factory wiring says who knows what else has been done. Thanks for the informative videos as always, I enjoy a great electrical diag video

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matthew Price, Auctioneer & REALTOR says:

You can always check the steering column switch as they get loose and make it look like there is a wiring problem. They are fun with the Excursions as well. Tightening that bolt fixes that problem

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Chadwick says:

great overall job! Just curious about the long time spent on the dead green wire. Why not look to see if there was a resistant to ground (i.e. load to be seen) on fuse 3? No load would have been an early indication of wrong wiring diagram (which you eventually discovered by applying a battery wire). If I ever uncover a "problem" on the power side of a circuit, I immediately look to see if the load side is there so I know I am in the right circuit.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars KoolBreeze420 says:

Did you cover the cut wires or ladder the cut? If not rust or water will eventually join them together shorting them out. His money is the same as any other person so no reason to turn a job away unless you know you can't fix it.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jon Miner says:

Hi, Eric. I found this old video today for some reason. It turned out to be a real detective case. I agree. The old truck is on its last wheels. It isn't worth getting a new set of tires. Thanks for sharing! Stay Healthy!

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TEAMERICA says:

I dozed off half way through and had to backup and catch up on what happened. When I woke up my hand smelled like charred mouse drippings.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Caruso says:

Great troubleshooting, Eric. Clear, old time point to point tracing of the wiring. Great video.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Krista K says:

With the fire, maybe green wire and brown were grounded together. Fkn could be anything once that wire is out of sight. 😕

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rene Caballero says:

OMG! You are the first person other than myself that I've ever heard use the "sew button on your underwear" phrase… My Grandmother use to use this all the time when any of us kids would tell her SO.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Arnold says:

Just discovered your channel and I'm catching up on your videos. With this vehicle I'd say that It's really easy to be wise after the event, but when not armed with the full information who wouldn't have had a look at it. What looks like a straightforward repair can soon turn into a 💩 pile. You did well.

I drive an International school bus with the VT365 engine, which IIUC is the sister of this one. Happy to see it on video!

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars autoyota says:

Maybe that green wire is run through the harness along with the wire going to that shorted module? If melted together, could that have disrupted the power continuity?

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Where There's a Willis There's a Way says:

Pro Demand has NEVER given incorrect wiring info.😆

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Captain Truth says:

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phil Thompson says:

I’d be curious how long some of these jobs actually took…

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ExtremeRecluse says:

My eyes were glazed over after that one. Those huge wiring harnesses are spaghetti to me.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Silas Marner says:

The onnnnnnly thing about that green wire.. did u disconnect on both sides and ohm it out?

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Silas Marner says:

Je pense que c'est une fete de les pitres

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Shellhaas says:

Really enjoy watching you figure put the issues. The truck was as you so delicately called it a "toilet". Loved that. Thanks for the learning and the occasional laugh

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Halter says:

Very good job of diagnosis, a lost art with many mechanics. Sadly after all this work this truck will be down again soon. To much PPM and future problems are waiting in line.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Halter says:

I did electrical repair at the factory for ford before I retired, no mouse crap, mostly Mexican wire loom crap. lol

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Halter says:

The oh no 6.0, probably the best IH motor Ford put in once bullet proofed. Ford was responsible for all most all the problems with this set up and bankrupted International with their money and power. I purchased a Bronco ll pile of crap in 86 and traded it on a 91 Cummins and bought my wife Grand Cherokee. Both went over 300,000 with no problems, haven’t drove a Ford since. The new Bronco brought back the memories of the Bronco ll and it I believe will destroy what’s left of Fords reputation. I bought a 4Runner instead of giving Ford anymore of my cash, very happy with my choice.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Blue Ghost says:

I am thinking the green wire had no power because the wire you cut was to keep the vehicle from starting as part of an alarm

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark Holbrook says:

You sure worked for your money on that job! And no parts were needlessly changed. And the customer got what he asked for, at lest for now. But that green wire…

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars CR Auto guy says:

I like to do my customers that own ford 6 eyed diesels a favor and refuse to work on them helps me out too Because when you take one on it's back every week for a new problem And they say it's bulletproof'd And I say well let's go out Behind the barn and shoot it That's o 3 worst one Working on those trucks is a pain because everything is subject to failure Most of that's fine but when the harness is rotten I really stinks Those trucks seem to just waste my time and my customer's money so I stopped working on them If I'm not happy my customers is not happy what's the point oh by the way have you seen any Ford ambulances in the last 20 years there's a reason 6.o s stroked out on the way to the Hospital People died because of these Fords I've always felt sorry for the people that traded them there' 7 3 power stroke for the new 6 0

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Albert McAlister says:

I love watching an honest man work. Keep the videos coming.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alan Nilsson says:

It's not your wiring diagram…it's the rigged work that has been done to the truck SINCE the FIRE under the hood. Great work! Nice Vid! Really shows why mechanics HATE electrical issues in vehicles.

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ahnbra says:

Eric, you got the truck running as asked/requested. You are also only human and as a human you will and have made mistakes. I strongly dislike (hate) that fact in regards to my self. None the less the fact is humans make mistakes and that we can not change. We can and should strive to make as few as possible and when we make mistakes try and hope they are not major as in life threatening. You are a very good mechanic and when doing electrical trouble shooting you fallow a logical procedure that usually leads you to what is wrong. If I lived near you I would bring all my mechanical work to your shop. I live in Minnesota so that is not possible. Try to let go about that Green wire issue. You checked all the regular resources about that trucks wiring. There is extra wiring on that truck for things like the plow and CB Radio. Some one might have messed around with that Green wire where you could not or did not see. May be that truck has the trans in it with the module and you did not get that info. I give you an A+ Grade on that job. BE SAFE SAFETY FIRST!!!! NOT THIRD ERIC!!
