In this video I remove and replace the front brake pads and rotors on a Ford Freestyle. I also found that one of the caliper pins was locked up tight. I bust out a few tips from memaw along the way. -Enjoy

    Great video on brake pads and cleaning of them, and using proper lube on the slides, but Hey what happened to the high tack for the back pads to the piston heads and back pad to the outside caliper So on the release, of the brakes the piston releases the pads after the braking action which pulls pads to free open position that's what high tack holds then to outside caliper and pad stays to the piston. Common Eric.

    Hi Eric as long as you are on the subject of brakes, 2012 Ford Edge when ABS is activated my pedal goes down to almost the floor I have computer bled them and then manually bled them still the same park over night pedal back to normal next day this happens every time the ABS is activated. I also live in the rust belt? Thought this mite come up on one of your videos. Keep up the good work. PS ford wants 1800.00 to look at it?

    Been having brake issues and the mechanics were not able to find the problem…soft pedal, car barely slows down; main cylinder replaced, abs pump replaced, brakes bled 7-8 times, issue still not fixed…
    Decided to have a look myself, noticed the bottom sliding pin on both front brakes to be seized, causing the pads to not sit flush and press evenly on the disks…
    Waiting for the new calipers and pins to be delivered but I’m confident i’ve found the issue

    Not a mechanic but a contractor builder and remodeller and remodeller. I did this job yesterday and I was pulling my hair out sith a stuck caliper piston. The next day I pulled out a torch and took care of it.     I got to clean-out-the-caliper pin bore with a drill bit trick twice now, and once with a propane torch to get the seized pin out of the caliper bracket. If you use a torch, be very careful to keep the flame away from the boot so you don't ruin it like I did (sigh). I had the torch on for 5 to 7 minutes, and the pin still wasn't getting loose (even though there was a lot of steam or smoke coming out of the boot), so I finally pushed on the bracket really hard, and it started moving. I should have gotten on it earlier, which might have saved the boot.

    I once worked in a workshop working on commercial vehicles (HGV) we called them and we had one trailer that had a buffer spring on the hitch coupling, we had to remove the coupling pin nut to re-tension, it the nut was somethin like about 6 inches across the flats and it was seized solid, the foreman told me to go get a couple of buckets of water, he got the gas axe out and heated the nut , when it was bright red he told me to pour the water on it, and after we did that the nut came of easily, same principle as your heating the caliper bracket and cooling it in water, I was astonished at how it had worked I was expecting a couple of hours of fighting with it.

    I just did a brake job on my 2007 GMC but what I had to do was grab the hex or nut area to tighten the mounting bolt is this ok or normal or it would just spin. I didn’t see anybody do this It looked to me that you run the floating pin in with your impact I’m not sure exactly how to do this

    Man.. your not wrong. I had the very same issue with a co worker, and the caliper was just a lost cause. Ended up throwing the old pads back on, and she drove it till it died 2 years later (yaa, grinding metal the whole time).
