I kick my own A$$ diagnosing this Toyota! But I figured it out! Wheew!!
Here is part two where I perform the repair of the A/C system. Which also kicks my a$$ a little.
Check it out here! It's over on my second channel! https://youtu.be/Afoy6MpVrSU

TOYOTA BEAN SYSTEM
I reprogrammed a Nexus Tablet to use as a OBDII Diagnostic Computer. It's faster, can be upgraded, and can work with any system; even beyond car engines.
Does your employer just not buy the tools you need to do your job? Do they reimburse you at all for the ones you buy?
It's a Toyota, don't be so hard on yourself
What did the dealer tech time state for this repair 6 hours? Mucho money for Toyota!
Bought a $7000 dollar Canon Camera. Love it.
THERE ARE NO SENSORS FOR MECHANICAL WEAR
Greetings from the UK . Firstly , your videos are fantastic , keep 'em coming . Secondly Don't beat yourself up about this episode. Its whats called in the trade as only human . You live and learn and move on to the next job. HAve yourself a great day !!!
Vehicles are just way too complicated these days. How about a return to simplification without the gizmos?
Who needs remote start in Florida? smh
We live and learn π
in 2022 i couldn't have a corded scan tool for $3,000, my autel 908 BT for half that cost and wireless ,it's just so much more convenient for being under the hood and under the car for
bi-directional control and after owning snap-on scan tools before it's not $1,000 to update on something i already paid thousands of dollars for in the first place, but to each there own.
Totally waste time. Just change relay done.
Donβt beat yourself up to much Ray, everyday is a school day and youβve taught me loads about car maintenance.
$3,000?! The one snap-on guy I saw wanted 11! That was the last time I ever set foot on his truck.
(Edit: thereβs no way this comment could come back to bite me in the arse if I ever get a job working on someone elseβs car.)
I had an early 2000s Ford Mustang with a V6, manual transmission come in for no A/C. Also had a check engine light on. I have a personal habit of pulling codes jsit to see if there's any relation between that and the issue at hand. Codes pulled up faults for O2 heaters (all 4), purge and vent valve issues, no compressor due to relay codes. Upon pulling a wiring diagram and finding a burned fuse, I then put the car up in the air to see if there were any harness issues. Unplugged all the O2s, still burned the fuse. Pulled the purge and vent valve connectors, still burnt the fuse. At this point I headed towards a dead short. Upon looking around the engine and Trans, that's when I found the harness over the bell housing was pinched between the engine and tranny, more than likely when the last clutch was done. That was a fun find and fix.
The aftermarket crap in this car I believe is cheap immobiliser and central locking
I always said a good trouble shooter is worth his weight in gold. Retired aircraft electrician
Had that happen with the trucking company Iβm working for lol one of the kenworth trucks wouldnβt turn off no matter how many times you try to cycle the keys, only thing that would shut it off is if you pulled the fuse
Even at an hour that's not bad. Now if it would have been six or more then you can beat yourself up..
Great job Ray.
Been there done that, over thinking things.
Car is possessed – LOL
,For those who second guess you… They of course are sitting watching a video and have zero skin in the game. I think the work you do is awesome and way more complicated than what I make a lot of money doing. I thank all of you who keep my cars running so I can get to work every day to make my money! I totally enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the great job you are doing, not only fixing cars but making awesome videos for the rest of us to enjoy.
The way I look at it now from being in the industry for a number of years is the a/c compressor is the hardest working, most prone to wear item in the a/c system. The service manuals were made to diagnose problems on NEW vehicles with NEW components. The likelihood of an a/c amplifier module being internally defective on a Toyota with that age on it and being inside the vehicle not exposed to atmosphere and weather is very unlikely.
What concerns me the most is the wiring job someone else did on that remote start system.
Hacking in to and piggybacking harness wiring is generally very suspicious and does often cause corollary problems with other wiring system components depending on the level of care and attention made with the remote start installation.
You did a good job diagnosing this issue and regardless of going down the rabbit hole of testing components you were thorough and you learned to go for the obvious even when you think there may be something else causing the problem.
Understandably you didn't want to install an expensive new a/c compressor when there may have been something else causing the HVAC system malfunctioning.
Lug nut lol. Oh Ray I'd love to be one of your coworkers
3 grand and it doesnt have bidirectional controls does it
You were dealing with someone elses hack job.
Lmao
Thatβs a gps so if they donβt pay there car payment then they can shut the car off an track it so they can pick it up
Safety switch low freon assuming

First gettn in car like that I'd be thinkn its wired to blowup.
Loud noises. Ray says "Lug nut". My brain immediately thinks: "What?? The car or the guy?" π€£
I've seen you use your smarts to quickly diagnose something in 5 minutes..
It's called "street smarts" and usually give better, faster results…
I've been a network troubleshooter for over 40+ years, and there are basic tests that take me 95% of the way, by simple asking the customer a few basic questions and poking around the device.
I still have colleagues that will refuse to investigate or talk to the customer until they have all the diagnostic files, which really delays a solution, sometimes for weeks..
They do it because they're not confident or competent in their diagnostic skills, or lack the imagination to find 2-3 ways to test the same thing, which would provide confirmation.
Not to toot my horn, but I average 1 day to solve 99% of my customer issues. (and I mean average time)
Should not work on this car, appears maybe a car from a buy here, pat here lot.
Let us know if you had to fix those lug nuts.
Its a Toyota, remenber Pearl Harbor
I had a 2004 Toyota Tundra after doing some work in the engine compartment I noticed my AC light flashing, a quick search found that there was a missing ground. I simply went to where I was previously, and re grounded, and all was good.

What do you meand hygh resistance…., Low Ohms or high ohms What is it . Low ohms is short cit cirquit hight ohms is , to a point, open cirquir.
Ray, you're the lug nut and battery Guru… and don't you forget it….!

Good job you done what you thought was right ok.
You scan tool is tax deductable.
Decades ago at university, I wrote an essay titled, βJohn Little Bit Know Nothing!β about the practical wisdom of using experience rather than formal theory in real life contexts.
Savage comment on his Co worker lol "guess im fixing lug nuts later" hahaha and he heard him.
Enough with the gay commercials youtube , I have kids watching ,and dont need them to get confused βπΊπΈ
