We have a 97 jeep wrangler, and nobody can find the intermittent leak in our AC system. The entire ac system was inspected, a vacuum test was performed, showing zero leaks, but it still runs dry of refrigerant after 2 to 3 weeks, after slowly getting warmer, every day. The dye test showed nothing. Do you suppose that the compressor could be the culprit, depending on what position it stops at when the engine is stopped? It is the only part that hasn't been removed, and inspected. Thank you for looking at this post!

Hey Ray, I'm not sure if they still have it or not but Napa had a good chart for how much oil is supposed to be in a compressor by the manufacturer of the car/van along with the compressor model on their website.
Two shops refused to change my Express 2500 A/C belt because ''it takes a special tool''…….I told them they were a special tool and did exactly what you did Ray!

Great to watch you I started in the motor trade in 1968 as an apprentice for major UK motor manufacturers in a large garage in Birmingham U/K retired now but still miss working with the spanners time flies ,the motors I worked on then everything from minis to land rovers ,and jaguars are now now classics ,

I quite often find myself inspecting orifices too…It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it….I don't inspect nearly as many as I used to, but that's to be expected, I guess…They almost always past inspection in my youth, these days, not so much….
FYI in a case where fasteners are not given a torque value, the actual fastener has a torque value assigned. So if a torque value for a system is not given a torque value for that fastener is. Just in case you’re wondering about this.
How many mechanics in your shop?
All the different tools you use, are they your own, or is it the workshops ? I admire the air and batterytools.
Check the gap on plugs because not all are gap properly.
5.5mm….yup, never figured that out….90% of the fasteners on copiers built by xerox are 5.5mm

What's the difference between an AC service valve and a tire valve?
Thanks for the tip of the chance of having debris in the condenser will compromise performance! I flushed one thinking I was keeping crud out of the replacement compressor. Blockage wasn't one of my thoughts.
You mentioned that you thought there was too much oil. How does that hurt an AC system?
Best way to keep those bolts in that need to go in pre install are small AC o rings, slide it onto the threads all the way back so it doesnt interfere with starting the bolt.

Comment from the peanut gallery, but if your doing laying on the ground stuff get a foam sleeping pad like for outdoors stuff. Personally use the cheap blue Walmart roll, though you might want to check materials for compatibility with the fluids you're exposed it to. Might even go as far as adding your preferred spray can coating if you have a known good one, as your not gonna sleep or hike with it.
