Rarely seen at SMA! In this video I replace the rear pads only on a GMC Terrain. This may be common practice in the non rust belt but, it hardly ever happens here. Anyhow, -Enjoy!

Actually, the part I thought was funny was "put your tires back on and tighten them to a point where they won't fall off". I have that brake file on my list. Thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paublus Americanus AMERICANUS says:

Blue locktight will work till the first time he stops from 70 mph then red would have been the better choice. Never heard of someone's brakes falling off though.

We have very low rust in North Carolina but I always pull the bracket and clean it up and check the slide pins and lubricate them it only takes a few minutes

Yeah know that well dude came in and said he wanted a set of brakes front and rear but didnt want the job done like the fella I had done brakes for the day before I asked him why what was wrong with the job he had told me I didnt change the rotors or hubs and I laughed at him he asked what was so funny and I told him did he show you his work order? No what's that got to do with it ? I told him well he wanted me to only put on new pads and rear shoes no hubs and no rotors as it said on his workorder as per customer. And he signed the liability statement. And I did check the rotors and drums they were ok but could have used a little trimming on all of them he couldnt afford the 12 bucks for all them to be turned it's like 3 or 4 buck a wheel then you dont pay that anymore

I heard a slightly different version: What's the difference between a truckload of babies and a truckload of watermelons? You never use a pitchfork on the watermelons.

Note: If you've never had Scandinavian cuisine this joke won't work… What do you get when you mix LSD and lutefisk? A bad trip to Oslo.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 1337penguinman says:

I pad slapped my Ranger just because it has integrated rotors and hubs. Didn't feel like spending the money for doing all that. California truck and the rotors still looked and felt fine.
Edit: Also, 2 things if you're doing this yourself. Uncap the brake fluid when you're pushing the pistons back. Makes it much easier. And, before you try and drive it, turn the key over and pump the brakes a few times. When you do it, you'll understand why it's necessary.

It's a really hot day and this penguin is having car trouble, so he takes it into a garage.

The penguin asks, "How long will it be?"

The mechanic says, "Just a few minutes."

So the penguin decides to go get an ice cream at the grocery store across the street.

When the penguin gets there he climbs inside the big freezer door and starts to eat ice cream.

Three hours go by before the penguin looks at his watch and jumps out of the freezer and races back to the garage.

With ice cream all over his face and his stomach he says, "So, how's my car?"

The mechanic comes walking out wiping his hands on a rag and says, "Looks like you blew a seal."

The penguin says, "No, no, no, I was just eating ice cream."

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Mankowski says:

Great video. Joke of the day.. Weasle walks into a bar.. Bartender says. "Wow I never served a weasle before. What will you have". "POP" goes the weasel..

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Mankowski says:

I have used a cutoff wheel in really heavy rust, then use a file to finish. Obviously you need to be proficient in using the cutoff wheel. So as to not take away to much. Just a lite touch up.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars scott17818 says:

Lol, thought when the title read pad slap, you were referring to a broken pad/caliper bracket with the pad metal slapping the caliper bracket, and making a slapping/ banging sound when changing gears, or start/stopping.. I just call this a pad change. I like to hit my rotors with a scotch pad (not in a whizzer) to aid in seating the new pads, and remove any crap.. and clean with brake cleaner of course..

Hi Eric, great show again. The cut of that file you were using is referred to as โ€˜dreadnaughtโ€™ over here in the UK. It was used for rough sizing aluminium (or similar soft materials) back in the day, when I was a lad. Thanks again for a brilliant channel.

I like that brake lubricant. I've just used plain antisieze for years since I could use it on slide pins and lug nuts too but that stuff probably holds up better on the back of a pad. Thanks for sharing.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Zach_Waltonn says:

I seen a lot of folks change rotors every time i generally dont cost to much money and i just run to oreillys and get em "turned" but idk if that something up north only cause i like in northern Mississippi

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars CTSCAPER says:

I did the brakes on my wife's CRV and one of the pads wasn't sliding freely (Napa pads as well, not a sponsor). I cleaned the brackets off till they were shiny and then some and still the darn pad wouldn't slide. Every YouTube mechanic says never grind your pads to make them fit so I didn't dare, or maybe I did just a little. Now I see you say sometimes there's a burr on the pad you have to file off or the paint is too thick. I wish I saw this video sooner… I'm gonna get me some Brake Caliper files, filing the brackets stinks with a regular file!

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars PastBlast says:

I love the "burp the baby" trick. Never seen that before. I will remember it! Thanks!!

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dan Levesque says:

This video hit me so hard this morning I couldn't stop laughing I was checking my pad thickness before my sticker is due and sure enough that last mechanic that touched my car only did a 3 wheel brake job average of 7mm and then the left rear wheel a lonley 1mm so now I'm going to be that guy getting a single pair of pads ๐Ÿ˜‚
