In this video I have a look at a 2004 Yukon Denali 6.0 that was dragged from another shop. It sat there for over a month and they finally threw in the towel. Let's have a look and see if we have any better luck at making it run. -Enjoy!

Without question, the best automotive diagnostician on the net!! Eric O, the man with the Golden Test Light!! Keep the lessons coming!!

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Lenny 213 says:

Ah man I miss these kinda jobs….. All I seem to do now is problems with parking sensors, AV cameras ,radios that don’t connect to customers phones, ADAS modules blah blah blah 🙄🙄🙄

    You Are a Computer Technician!!!

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars SoCal Ventures 1 says:

I love the informative videos, would you be willing to do one showing how to read the wiring diagrams you use?

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jake says:

I have a 2007 GMC Yukon Denali and no crank at all I already change the fuse panel still the same I can start it up when I power the starter Direct do I get a trouble code if the body control module fails

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tony F says:

You should charge for these videos because they are like free technician training classes. I've learned a ton by watching your videos. The only issue is that most of us don't have $5k scan tools to use, just the cheaper obd scanners so I appreciate the tips you give on how to diagnose without having all the right tools.

If there was a hall of fame for mechanics Eric O would have my vote

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Doug Aranda says:

Pretty sure I know where this came from. This vehicle was sitting outside a shop for so long I asked if it was for sale, and they told me it was a customer's car and had a lot of issues. This shop where it was at is top notch, so it had to be something along the lines of the customer refusing the estimate.

Just getting warmed up on this one 👍🇨🇦

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ebrahim sadeghi says:

@southmainautollc may I recommend the song “poop in a bag” by Slugs and Bugs… that’s a real musical group and one of their actual songs. A kid friendly group with songs I’m sure your kids would like.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Therealdeal Tech says:

Can you plz explain why the transmission temp was around 150??? if the vehicle wasn’t starting and it came from another shop

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Friend of the One-Eyed Ladies says:

My first move (maybe after checking the relay) would have been to back-probe the Start output at the ECM and see if it cycles when the key is turned to Start. And then worked my way backward (ECM power & ground) or forward (relay, wire from ECM to relay, wire from relay to starter) from there. That initial strategy splits the possibilities right in half, then you can work on the faulty half of the circuit, and don't need to do much with the other half beyond a cursory check (manually triggering the relay). Nothing wrong with what you did, just did the tests in a different order than I would. Different minds attacking the same problem, fun to see a different strategy. The Start output driver is burned up in the ECM.

If you find this video boring: what's going on here is too intelligent for you, go back to watching cat videos.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Antonio Claudio Michael says:

Very interesting that no green crusties and the wires are fine but it won't crank through the fuse but will crank with the test light through the fuse saver ecm seems to be working fine when because the scan tool is showing run and accessorie and crank 🤔🤔 all grounds and powers are good hmmmm strange and there is a crank enable signal intrigued and the starter works… @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC

Had a supervisor tell me If your working mistakes will be made I know how badly I kick myself trying to repair electric problems nothing worse then spending couple hrs trying to correct a problem to realize 1) you screwed it up worse 2) didn't fix the problem you started on and now you have a nice boot dent in the tailgate and lost a couple tools
"JUST LIVING THE DREAM" West Coast Style . NOT !!!

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Spike's Gold Prospecting says:

    Question, please
Cadillac coupe deville 2001. Neutral safety switch in transmission seems bad by scan and operation. Does the neutral safety switch, disable ignition and starter? I can jump start relay pins 30/87 spins great, still no fire.
With the Wiring diagram? I could figure it out , I think.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Samuel Hasan says:

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Dotterer says:

It is not about the repair, it is about the journey to get there.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dan Villarreal says:

I always enjoy these diagnostic videos. I love to learn how to methodically track down a problem and fix it. Thank you for your hard work and letting diyers like myself feel like we can handle these kinds of things

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark says:

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Wayne Habat says:

Who needs a computer to crank the car? Make your own ground switch and wire it to the circuit. LOL

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars throttle bottle says:

I love when I start watching a video, then get side tracked, yet here I am 6 hours later and still not hardly past 21 minutes in 😐 DOH

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Gantry says:

Yes. I HAVE had one of those dreams where I wake up in the middle of the night and go "SON OF A B….!"

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Gantry says:

LOL… Man! So another shop was IN THE MIDDLE of doing whatever, and the customer yanked it right out from underneath their butts, and brought it to SMA. That's got to be one hell of and ego booster. For Eric. Not so much for the other shop! LMAO

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Bond SSGT says:

Hmmm. Trying to figure out the breed of dog you and Miss O have…looks like a German Shepard, but kind of looks like a Belgian Malenois as well.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steve Mazzarella says:

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Qassem Alhaddad قاسم الحداد says:

    Good call on pcm
I had same problem with 03 Denali , it was the pcm/its software and it happened because of tuning software, it would give me error not able to boot pcm and stuff like that, what i did is take pcm out, flash tune on bench and now its working but the problem is coming back whenever i try to reflash pcm through obd2, I ended getting 04 pcm problem solved

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DAE NZ says:

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tom O'Connor says:

Notice improved presentation with picture in picture and diagrams in sight as diagnosis is in progress. Nice touch and makes it easier to follow along. Less glare on most occasions.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Roy Dunn says:

You are a very knowable guy and seem to be a cool dude

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Zach S says:

I had the same issue with my 2005 Chevy trailblazer it ended up being the fuse box under the hood

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ogee 63 says:

Not boring, just standard wiring troubleshooting to verify the problem and not waste money by throwing parts at the problem. Now imagine crawling through miniscule passages of an aircraft belly covered with multiple years of dust and spills to reach a connector some moron engineer placed upside down backwards underneath the lav tank to check the pins. Yum.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeffrey Griffin says:

Wish I had a mechanic like you around me. The ones around me like to fire up the ye olde parts cannon.
