I woulda loved to see the look on the consumer's face when you tell him / her you fixed the problem by 'packing it's crack' ………………

Good job, Ray, nice to see a pro reach for a simple fix. Gluing plastic is much more challenging than I thought it would be, there are many different types of plastic and some don't seem to take glue well at all. JB weld is up there with the best options, it has certainly worked better for me than other options.

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tom Primeau says:

One of these days, you will try to clear codes with the engine off first, Ray. 😂

Oh my, you'd be terrible with a gravy boat at Christmas 😂I hate Jeep Liberty's, F'n junk!

    Nothing like filling some cracks.

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dave Robinson says:

When all else fails JB Weld it. That stuff is amazing. I prefer the putty for fixes. That one does look runny but I'm sure JB knows why that's the best way to use it on certain material.

I changed a fuel pump on a blazer in a gravel driveway and the fun part of that was he just filled the tank all the way.
yes don’t get a junkyard tank I had fun changing a leaky tank for a junkyard one that leaked more guy was to cheap to buy a new one think it was $160 for the new one junkyard $30 no warranty

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jozef Roman says:

Hack job or not, this should last a while and why throwing a still good tank away. I imagine this was also cheaper then getting a new one if it would be availabel.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars mrbassman49 says:

My trick for welding up metal fuel tanks is to drain the petrol out of the tank to be welded and run a hosepipe from the exhaust of my vehicle into the filler hole of the tank I'm going weld, start my car and have a coffee while I wait for the tank to fill with exhaust gas. Once you have no smell of petrol vapour you can then seam weld a plate over the hole finishing off with a good coat of JB Weld over the seam. Exhaust gas can't explode.

Any machine is a smoke generation devise if you operate it poorly enough.

    packing the crack

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phil Jamie Ross says:

    can you plastic solder those

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars HDConcussionz says:

May have been a good use case for a little bit of plastic weld. A soldering iron may have closed that hole pretty simply.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars First Last says:

I guess VW makes up for the nightmare job of replacing the heater core by allowing one to do what you are trying to do by simply pulling up the carpet in the trunk (boot), unscrewing the round access panel and having complete access to the top of the tank to change out the pump, sender or that connecting piece that's leaking in the Jeep you have there. As they say, you win some and you lose some.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nick Warner says:

even if the tank was available I would've given the customer the JB Weld option. If thats your ride its not like you are rolling in cash. Doing a solid to the customer by giving them options pays off long term in building trust and there are no ads you can buy that beat word of mouth. In WI we would have to cut the straps out or watch the bolts snap on something like this. Hauled a lot of rusted out ones to the crusher. Watching you take it out with a cordless ratchet blew my mind. Can barely do that on 5-6 year old vehicles here. Use a torch more than anything.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars jay wolfenbarger says:

You did a good job at packing that crack

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane McMullen says:

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars simon worthington says:

JB cold weld great stuff as used it over here in Dublin

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars NeoMorph WTH says:

Wait, 2 straps is what is all that keeps the tank from falling off and catching fire? It explains those underway fires you see. A bit of rust and suddenly your ass is on fire.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Clark says:

A little late for this video…and somebody else may have already mentioned it..there's a JB Water Weld that's rated for water, gas, oil..etc.. It's a two part putty epoxy. That might work better if you run into that situation again.

Great fix from an excellent fixer but my question is: Why fix a piece of junk in the first place? HAHAHA

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Birdie 158 says:

The failed part is very likely polypropylene and nothing sticks to PP for long. There's a lot of epoxy on it so hopefully it will hold just due to a mechanical lock to the part. rather than adhesion.
