In this video I have a look at a high mileage Honda Accord that came in with a customer compliant of no wipers. I could have just chucked a motor at from the parts cannon but I show the routine process of following a diagnostic plan to get a 100% definitive answer to what is wrong. You have two options. You can test or guess. You choose. -Enjoy!

I can't imagine how annoying the wiring on my wiper motor would be on my Ford Fusion… when on, they sit in a ready state about 2 inches above full park, and then when switched off they go to the ready state and then park. They also automatically park themselves correctly without hitting each other (they both swing out from the middle) so if I have one situated on top of the other they will both fully wipe and then switch positions. It's amazing how complex the simplest things on cars are nowadays.
Followed test procedures on a 05 accord 4 door. Motor was bad. Replaced it and it works great. Thanks for the info. My question is if I ground the blue wire and apply power to the green , will the motor run on a bench test? I took the black cover off and there is 3 female spade connectors that go into the motor. I apply power and ground there and the motor will run , but if I try the green and blue through the connector nothing happens. I went and got a junk yard connector. Trying to bench test it. Am I missing the mark on how to get power to this on the bench? What combination do I need to get this to power up on the bench ?
Someday I would love to have somebody explain to me why all these accessories have to involve the computer. Why not just a switch, relay and load?
perfect!! thank you.
Hay Eric O Iโve got a 2005 Accord that the wipers have only high no mater what position you put them ( – intermittent) not the switch or motor any advanceโฆ.Iโm thinking high relay is stuck but I havenโt had time to check it
Can you do a video of the โgroundโ wiper diagnostic or diagram? I have the fuse 11 (30A) keeps burning up.. I believe itโs a ground wiring problem, so can you please make a video on a 2003 Honda Accord coupe?? ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ
Haha!! Iโve put the wiper motor on didnโt have it timed exactly, the blade hits the window molding wiper blade flew off haha cross bow style ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
That 17 mill is longer than Dad's
308,000 mile before the wiper motor failed … not bad.
They get water in them and it makes the motors go bad. They actually had a recall where we had to go in and place a stupid cover over the motor to keep water out ๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ Needless to say it didnโt work that well lolโฆ I got really good at replacing these things in those cars! Had it done to about 6 minutes in and out.
Great video Eric! Iโve never been able to come up with a clear plan on testing this circuit. I try my best to be like you when it comes to my diagnostic strategy but man itโs complicated sometimes. I understood everything you did to test this circuit and now I have the necessary information necessary to diag the next one that comes into my shop!
Iโve used a battery terminal removal tool on VW to pull those.
96 Civic door dinger disconnected no speed control of wiper and doesnโt park correctly.
I've been in the service industry for about a year, it's always fun watching these old guys cruise through diagnostics with ease while I just learned yesterday my 1 year old multimeter has a thermometer function! I'm young and dumb and know I don't know anything, your videos refill me with confidence to go back into work, feeling like I know just one more thing.
Where do you find automotive wiring diagrams like that?
There was recall on these but it was only 03 models. Its was TSB on replacement of the motor or installation of plastic cover.
I found a bad abs wire by following your procedure thank you
Where do you get all these print outs from ?
Mid of a snow storm my windshield wiper stopped working. Took it to my Saturn dealership that I was near. $750 ! I couldnโt believe it ! Car only cost $14,995
I changed the wiper motor on my 1981 Ford truck without removing the hood. But wow was it a pain in the neck. I almost would rather pull the V8 motor. But I got er done
Remind me of my friend who's wipers would get jamed and he would reach under the dash to get them going again. And one day his fingers got stuck in the mechanism, the police came and In the coppers wisdom he pulled on the wiper and it chopped off his fingers
I always watch your channel, you've been helpful in helping me understand what is going on with my car, sometimes I just put your channel on and leave it there because I know eventually I'll catch on to something else with my car, thank you for all your help and support and I appreciate your family values, a lot of people need to know family first. Thank you
Looks like the recall has never been performed. There should be a plastic cover over that motor preventing water ingress.
The other option would be to power the motor directly. If it doesn't do anything, it's no good. I no longer have any access to repair information, so the last customer with wipers inop told me, "I'm sure it's the motor, just put one in". I told him, he's paying if it fixes it or not. Luckily it did fix it. Although I did carefully plug in the new one before installing and test to make sure before bolting it all in.
ENHANCE ENHANCE on that front fuse block! I have a friend with a fuse block nightmare up there.
You should have opened up the old motor to see why it wasn't working, that's the most interesting part and you didn't even do it ๐
Just wondering if you could do a diagnostic video without schematic. Here we have mostly used JDM cars, of which the wiring is often different from USDM cars and schematics are difficult to find. Once had a car with brake warning and check engine lights on, reduced electrical power steering assist, reduced engine power, but 2 mechanics couldn't find the issue. 3 different scanners didn't recognoze the car. Sent car to used car sales place, where they had a Japanese mechanic with Japanese scanner. He found the issue to be the ABS pump.
damn that car is dirty
People he charges u top dollar for later while filming ur car bullshitting
Thank God I left u saved thousands on labor joker
U waste so much time on the customers dollar joker
Ur such a joker
Here we go a lot of money and many returns got to pay for that kabtoa
Similar scenario with my 1995 Grand Marquis. Wipers didn't want to work, could manipulate them a time or two back into working and they would work a while. Finally they died. Replaced the combination switch, had a few issues in the car, that switch made the most logical sense to replace first. No issues changed when it was solved. But for the wiper circuit, I could hear all the relays click when they would be commanded on. Bought a motor, figuring if the wiring is good up to the plug, the motor was the only cause. So tested the circuit with a brand new Dorman motor, and the motor came to life.
Funny enough, the wipers had a "rest" position when turned on, they would rise up to a predetermined point and then would cycle from there. I knew how the wipers would run normally, motor comes on, transmission would move like a locomotive steam train. But how on this car did it manage to raise the wipers and run like normal? Two motors, one motor was the one that controlled the wipers, the others raised and lowered the transmission when commanded. I learned this when testing the new motor, I had nothing connected and observed how it operated.
For the repair, about the same amount of effort is needed between this Honda and that Grand Marquis. Some hood seal, some of the cowl, wiper arms, and a plastic cover over the transmission with the wiper motor on the bottom of it. 30 minutes to just over an hour depending on how stubborn the car is.
"No high no low" I guess it must be bose.
From what company do you get wiring diagram and info ?
I use Bosch Esi tronic here in Sweden but it almost never have info beside engine ecu and transmission .
Keep up the good work greetings from boschcarservice in Sweden .
Love hate on plastic?
Dont you think cars these days are made with too much plastic?
Intakes
Thermostat housings etc
rollin the diagnostic dice boiii
Anybody else want a toolbox/shop tour
Eric O., you are the best comic on YouTube!
All that then not to look inside the motor! I feel cheated.
Review on the x beam wrenchโs!?
Honda Accord with over 300K miles and the owner hires SMA. Quality seeks quality.
Why are people disliking I don't get it
Eric, just replaced plugs on a 2016 outback 2.5, what a nightmare. Wanted to share my victory! Love the channel.
Pretty straightforward repair. Nice Job.๐๐
Nice professional way to diagnose and fix. Thanks for sharing
Ford service manuals – through Ford have 'Theory and Operation' I think it's called. It is a wealth of information. I have learned a lot by reading through it. Way to go Honda for having pretty much the same thing. I need all the help I can get! Good video!
Hi watched one of your videos recently whare you diagnosed a vacume leak a ground issue with the abs which was problem with the ground attached to the transmission case you also done a wheel speed sensor on this video my question is what is needed and how do you make up the variable resistors tool you used to complete the circuit is thare any chance you could do small video on making one up im a relatively new tech so anything that makes diagnostic a little easier would help thsnks
give her a good jiggle…
