In this video we have a look at this 2003 Honda Civic 1.7 that came in with a complaint of no A/C or blowing warm air out of the vents when the a/c was turned on. It was a fun fix because it had a little twist at the end that almost got missed but ended up being a good fix. Some times it is a little more than just being low on refrigerant.

I have been a mechanic for going on some 40yrs and I always consider myself as a servant to my community and there has been lots of horror stories about how we rip off the community but you and your diligent efforts to resolve people's problems gives us all the good name thank you Eric for being a hard-working smart and wise mechanic!!!!

Hello, I picked up a 2004 Civic Si as a project car. The car hasn't been driven or started in 6 years. Is there anything I can do to help the AC unit operate when I hit the button? Also the car has about 4-5 gallons of old gas in the tank, do I have to remove it? I can't get a hose down the filler hole? Thanks, and I love your videos.

Wish my daughter in another town found a mechanic like you, sigh.

I watched your video on A/C compressors, such a informative video. My question is:" why is their no videos on the importance of the (ORPHIS TUB)?" When changing out a compressor, condenser, dryer.

My first and last Honda after just owning it for three years the AC would work until it got to 80 degrees then shut down. Went to the dealer and compressor had a bad thermal limit switch but of course = new compressor, took the day off and went back to the dealer four hours later they tell me they ordered the wrong compressor and they had to put the old one back on and I would have to come back a week later. New compressor lasted three years and failed exactly the same way. HONDA = JUNK !

I want to start out by saying… That I love your video. I have an 03 Civic coupe Manual tranny. And the compressor does not turn on I think that it may be the same thing that you just got done explaining.
🙁 I like your style, your experience and your very calm I like that. I tried looking up the address you have on your YouTube page… but you are too far from me. I am in Northern NJ Sucks for me haha. It would of been awesome if you could've seen my car for work. Thanks for your vid!

I'm a school bus mechanic but our compressors are not adjustable, so we have to pull the compressor. We do A LOT of AC work here in Texas so we get a lot of practice.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Julio Santos says:

Mrs. O got back at you for messing with her.🤣

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Botero says:

Eric, you are the master mechanic and above all very honest. Another crooked mechanic would have said to this customer, "you need a brand new compressor and everything that comes with it. "

    Great job miss oo

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Greg Hill says:

i had this same problem that i fixed with my daughter on 07 civic but the compressor is on other side of car and harder to reach . took me a lot of videos on you tube to find problem pulled out one shim cleaned clutch with wire wheel lucky i had a impact wrench to get the nut off . the weird thing is the problem does not show up when it is not too hot out when it got hot the ac quit.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Wreckeur says:

I just did this exact same process with my 2010 Fit!
Compressor wasn't kicking on and I needed to remove the shim. The clutch face was crusty so I ran it over the wire wheel (I did both faces)
It was kind of exciting seeing you going through all the same steps (no recharge for me, don't have the equipment) to get the a/c working again. Excellent confirmation that I did it right.

This was really a great example of "if Eric O can do it, you can do it"

    Thanks!

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hilmar Koerner says:

Thank you Sir! Checked the pressure, replaced the fuse and relay and found this. Removed the "washer" and it's working. Cewl!

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Roman Fisher says:

On an 03 civic hybrid the compressor went out.. and I just found out my condenser is trash needs to be replaced.. now I'm going to bypass the compressor for now, and route the belt to just the CS, water pump and tensioner. I ordered the condenser and compressor and when they both come in I'll change them out. Question: can I replace the condenser and compressor until I get to a garage and have them evap and recharge the new parts then route the serpentine belt to OEM settings??

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dennis Geroux says:

Good one Eric, I just happen to be working on a Honda clutch assembly now. The coil went bad so I’m doing the assembly.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Luis Parada says:

To any one seeing this, what did that shim do?
Like did it not allow the pulley to be perfectly positioned or
The clutch didnt make enough contact with compressor? Etc
Somebody please fill me in. Thanks

Hey Eric i went to my machanic recently for my 04 Accord EXV6 Sedan only 69k and he checked the ac and both gauges read low for both pressures. And he says it need a new compressor and possibly Expansion valve. Im hoping it be the the compressor since i ordered the it plus dryer. What you thing.

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ADM says:

Thank you. I have made it a habit to simply replace my compressor clutch relays every 60K miles before they cause problems. These things cycle constantly, and with time, their contacts get pitted and if they don’t fail right away (lucky you), they’ll cause intermittent problems. I once experienced a slipping and burning compressor clutch due to a bad relay – fortunately, I caught it early on. I much rather spend $30 on a new relay than to deal with a damaged clutch and new compressor of uncertain quality.
