  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matt Beynon says:

Thanks man! I didn't have a tube cutter–or a good pair of side cutters, but my little oscillating multi tool cleaned that plastic off the cable in a jiffy!

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kielbasa Glen says:

I just completed my repair. Your tubing cutter idea was excellent to get a nice clean cut at the back. I however, did not remove the latch assembly.. simply because I didn't want to make another trip in to the house to get any more tools. (LOL). Honestly, the hardest part was removing the left over plastic cable and tightening the allen screws. Thanks…

Only thing I'd do different is dremmel a flat on the cable end. Give the grub screw a better chance to bite and won't just slip off if it happens to work loose a bit over time.
Another method would be to drill through the handle, also remove some of the plastic on the cable end and again dremmel a groove at the tip. Then you can lock the handle in with a 'C' clip.

Mine just broke tonight, thank you so much! Gonna order one of these bad babies & install it on my Civic!

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars fomoco300k says:

I can confirm that you do not want to cut off all of that plastic. Mine broke in such a way that the plastic ‘stem’ came off letting the cable go up into the sheathing. Had a fun time fishing that out with a pair of needle nose.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars fomoco300k says:

Hey, the price went down to $7.88! Even better!
    Thanks, Eric.

My Element h as the release recessed through a sidewall molding, so I used a needle nose vice grip to hold the cable pulled out while I worked on it., and a Dremel to expose just enough of the cable to seat in the new knob,

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ShadoeFax1986 says:

The interior handle you pull to release hood is broken, it's been missing since I bought 2005 Civic. I use a pair of channel locks to pull the plastic bolt that latch was attached too. I don't need to replace cables or anything, just the thing you pull from inside the car that pops hood. That little plastic square piece is all I need.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ThatHondaGuy says:

Oh yes, this is very common! I recently had to swap this cable/hood release over from my parts car: an ‘05 Civic, to my ‘02. This would have definitely been worth it, to have! I could have saved myself a 1/2 hr, right there.

On the positive side, the one on my ‘06 Ridgeline broke off a few months ago and now I know I can replace just that piece..

Thanks Eric O., for the vids on this Hondoo!
